A 1 ton is the smallest sized truck you can get with dual wheels. You can also get a single rear wheel 1 ton. Usually the only difference between a 1 ton and 3/4 ton truck is the rear end, the spring pack, and the brakes. That’s not always the case, but it usually is.

Anything bigger than a 1 ton such as an F450, F550 or medium duty truck will not have the option for single rear wheels because at that point you’re carrying more weight than what can be handled with a single rear wheel setup. Adding dual wheels increases the payload capacity a little bit and it helps with highway stability, but it costs you fuel economy with the increased weight and rolling resistance. It is also not quite as good off road.
