Great update, it's refreshing to see a channel who seems to actually enjoy the work/modelling. Most present it as a list of dreaded chores!
Ha, don't get me wrong, some things are a chore but this is a hobby! 😄
I think it probably becomes a chore if you need to present weekly updates and videos for a UA-cam channel - if you're chilled enough to present an update as and when, probably less so????
That embankment is crying out for a blackberry thicket... Nice job on the scenics.
I approve of static grass!
Incidentally, I think that your stereo channels may be inverted. You can check with the sequence near the end where the class 37 passes close by to the camera: the sound moves from one speaker to the other in the opposite direction to what one would expect.
He is such a nice person and I love his vids along with Charlie at Chadwick xx
Very kind of you to say so! 😊
Nice video, Richard! Good to catch up on New Junction. I enjoyed all the titivating going on! Haha. Andy 😁👍🏼
Nice to meet you at MRS Richard, I forgot to say that I had a parcel with a 2nd 37 and a pair of flasks to be opened after the weekend. I waited until the 12th as you suggested re my payment issues, but as nothing updated I contacted the helpdesk and they resolved the issue immediately, so I now await a pair of eagerly anticipated 66's on their release. Loving the work on the grass there. Chas and Josie, The Speyside Ramblers.
Good day sir, got your MoJo back and just couldn't stop yourself I see. Also by the look on your face you was having way too much fun (if there is such a thing). Thanks for sharing and keep going.
Haha yes!
Starting to come together Richard, it’s amazing how a simple bit of motivation can bring great results.
That grass has made a superb difference, well done. It’s way too easy to get stuck into a list of jobs that need doing but It’s also nice to go ‘off piste’ sometimes.
Impressive how much difference that makes to the layout. Great work.
Thank you very much!
Nicely done, the WWS layering system really elevates static grass to the next level. Blue decorators tape (3M) is better than old style masking tape, leaves less sticky residue and comes off better.
it looks amazing - thank you for showing how it should be done
Hi Richard, the layout is certainly coming to life now, i love how you've incorporated 3 different layers, it adds real depth.
Lovely to chat again at Model Rail Scotland and thanks for the coffee ☕️
Nice video Richard. Nice work with the static grass. The combination of different colours and layering the grass really came into effect. - Nicholas.
Hi Richard. Great work on the static grass and turf etc. Yes it certainly brings things to lo life when you start to landscape bits of a layout. It's one of my favourite things to do and I can see that you enjoyed doing as well. Hence why you got carried away a little bit... 😁 All the best. Mark.
Good to meet you again at MRS Richard, and I didn’t think the grass would grow under your feet so to speak! 😉 you are giving Charlie a run for his money with the clarity of your videos to help us all progress. Btw your music is better too!🎼👌
Amazing transformation, must try static grass myself some day.
You should!
@@NewJunction after seeing your results I most definitely will, it's good to see how the process works and how "easily" you can improve the look of your layout, I hope your example inspires others to give it a go. Many thanks
Ps also going to try that chinchilla stuff as ballast as well!!
@philipstokes2824 all part of the fun, trial and error 😊
Amazing layout 😍 love it ! The trains all make it look so realistic ❤
I learned quite a lott watching this video. Thanks for showing.
Great Work Richard , It's taking shape 👍👍
Wow, that was amazing what a difference!! I am itching to get on with my layout but work always gets in the way😃
Great update, that’s by far my favourite part of modelling on the layout, adding the colours👍
Cheers John b😎
Great update the layout is changing so much on every update thanks
It sure is
Another amazing progress video. You make creating scenery look so easy.
Thank you very much!
Lovely job Richard.
Looking fabulous Richard, it looks totally different we’ll done
Thanks 👍
Great video Richard always enjoy your videos grass look excellent fencing looks great I think it just finishes it off 👌👌👌👌
The layout is looking fantastic.Well done.
Glad you like it
That’s a cracking job you’ve done there very impressive
Thanks!
The tiny shaker is FS646 from Woodland Scenics.
Some good work here Richard, that scene is now staring to look quite good, keep up the good work.
It was amazing to meet you at mail Scotland. Thank you for being so nice😊
The pleasure was all mine, best of luck with the channel! 😊
Layout looks so impressive, well done
Cheers
Aside from the great layout, your video production has jumped in quality, immensely. Great audio (I see a new mic being used), nice time-lapse shots and well levelled background music. Great work! Looking forward to the next update.
Looking good.
I'm at the stage of plastering over the Up platform of Birdforth (my TT:120 layout), although I'm still procrastinating designing the bridge for the north end, therefore can't do other scenery on board 2 yet. I also need to get my 3d printer working, so I can print rough versions of the church and station building (so I can have them in place to work around them, prioritising the rest of the scenery, instead of spending weeks on getting those models correct and then having a bare layout otherwise).
I've said it before Richard, but your apppeal (and I mean this sincerely in the best way) is that you seem to be like all of us.
And that was the sexiest soundtrack to static grassing I've ever heard.
Ha! I'm nothing special, just a hobbyist like everyone else 😊
Great! Nice to see different aspects, and totally understand the motivation that comes after a show. I'm going to be working on part of a club layout before long, but not before an actual show this coming weekend. It's a T trak layout with modules, so I'll need to get the track glued down once I know it's all working. Then I'll throw on some scenery and finish my depot scratch build as well as paint the 3d printed shed that I've got. Gosh, can't forget to do the roads too!
Sounds like fun! 😊
Brilliant video New Junction
Hi Richard, the grass transforms that part of the layout, looks great but you can’t go far wrong with WWS grasses 😉. Cheers Gary
Looking good. One tip I have seen on other channels is when cleaning the excess grass use a hoover with something like a pair of tights over the nozzle to grab the grass which can then be reused.
That's a good idea! Although when I clean mine it's normally covered in glue so wouldn't be best placed going back into the tub.
Always a joy to see after a long day at school!
A treat for hometime haha
Richard, Chasewater Railway museum had a open sided flat roof engine shed that may look the part on your preservation railway as it would not impair the view to much
The layout is looking good now. Richard, you just shown what a bit of colour can do to any layout, and them westhillwagonworks mast do look good 👍
Let's hope the ballasting is just as rewarding, looking impressive 👍
Fingers crossed!
Nice to see you at Warley - new AS Class 31 looks amazing - fingers crossed ......
Won't be long now.and the pleasure was all mine!
love it such You are such a nice person and your videos are great I'm inspired to build my own layout now
Thank you so much, really appreciate the comment!
Hi Richard. I’ve mentioned before I’m not into trains but I find your videos very cathartic. That grass is so realistic! You know what would finish it? A few little clusters of bright yellow buttercups. There’s a challenge for you. 😊😉
layout is looking Awesome thanks for sharing Frank from Canada.😊😊👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
Looks great, now. With a clean run you can now go town on the scenic sections. Mike HO.
Good job Richard, we didn’t want to see you playing with ballast anyway. I saw a diorama video a few months back and when he finished his coloured grasses he said “looks perfect right?’.. adding “too perfect”….followed by a light spray with a grey or black wash over the grass once it was dry. The difference is it tied together the different colours and blended them together. The washed alongside not washed in the same shot was far more convincing. Just an idea to add to your to do list. Enjoy
Hi Richard nice to meet you at MRS....been following your channel for a few years now. New layout coming along nicely 👍🏻
The pleasure was all mine!
The best part of the layout building in my opinion. Looking good Richard and a great base to get the details in later on down the line (no pun intended)..all the best, Chris
Thanks Chris! 😂
WWS kit is amazing. Great to see you getting the scenery going and yes it really does make a difference. I usually add at least 10 layers from baseboard to finish to get the interest and variations I like. Nice one coming along really good.
Totally agree!
What a big difference the static grass makes Richard. Looking good now. 👍
Cheers
Some real progress there Richard - good to see the landscaping developing along with the trackside products. Look forward to the new catenary being launched by Westhill works in due course - I like the look of it and will need a few of those for my layout
You and me both!
That's some very fine fettling there, Mr Richard..... rewarding when it all goes so well....
Looking good...👍
Thanks 👍
The usual excellent work. Extremely epic -looking so far.
Thank you very much!
Really helpful. As a beginner I did not realise you could use WWS layering spray as a scenic cement to lock the grass and scatter in place.
Follow their youtube channel, its full of how tos
Finally, 40,000 so amazing😊😊
I can't believe it! 😮
Great music and good improvement.
Thanks!
Great video. Layout is looking fantastic Richard, love the static grass shades you used, really bought everything to life. Look forward to seeing the next one,
James
On a side note, apologies for not chatting up in Glasgow, I wasn't feeling great whilst I was up there for some reason, I'll catch up with you at the next show
Nothing to apologise for pal, we'll catch up again soon! Hope you're feeling better!
@@NewJunctioncheers pal, yeah I'm feeling a bit better now, just came back home with a cold but other then that I'm mostly back to myself
@@James-Akers feet up and lem sip in hand lol
Looking awesome, i really.need to try out some of those accura 37s, they looks much better than my Bachmann ones! And i love WWS too, a fantastic company ive used since day one of my layout!
Fantastic! Got inspired by your video and just bought some WWS products so I can start putting grass down on my layout
Take Care
Great stuff, it's great fun
lots of progress since i popped in very nice
Thanks
That looks amazing! Well done man :D
Thanks!
Great video. I have not gone near static grass yet but it on the “to explore” list.
You should!
It's amazing how a layout comes to life once the scenery starts to be laid down. The Westhill Wagon Works catenary certainly looks the part. I had a good conversation with the guy behind it at Model Rail Scotland. Obviously my question was would they do it in N gauge? They most certainly are - expected release date is hopefully the Autumn. Your layout is certainly coming together. Cheers Euan
Awesome video Rich, I found this really inspirational and satisfying to watch! Nicely done :)
Hylt
Awesome, thank you!
looks fantastic i aspire to build something similar one day my last layout was all one level i really love the layered look it give so much more 👌👌
That looks really good, Funnily enough earlier today I ordered a bag of chinchilla sand for ballasting although I need to get my point motors wired up first however motivation is lacking for doing so lol
I've still not added my motors aha
The scenery is coming along nicely. This is going to be an interesting video for my grandson to watch so he can get an idea of how to do things on his 009 layout when he starts the build, which will be soon. He's building a Petite Properties Kit for it at the moment. He will, I'm sure he'll be posting updates on his Dylington Model Railway channel once he gets started. He's just about finished a new video of his model railway. Which will feature loud rock music and flashing lights along with a few trains... Cheers James 🙂👍
Hi James, he may also find this useful: ua-cam.com/video/cvNpcOU7R6s/v-deo.htmlsi=u1-Jykl6LgPAkkGi
@NewJunction oh that's great, thank you. We'll watch that together when he's up here at the weekend. Hopefully, he's going to be doing a mockup up of it this weekend, and he's hoping to get going with it over the Easter holidays. Thank you again... James 🙂👍
Fantastic work Richard
Thank you! Cheers!
@NewJunction no problem keep up the great work hopefully I get to the level of your workmanship in seanic work
@@newdurhamjunctionmodelrail9236 you passed that years ago chap! 😊
the fencing looks great m8
Thanks
Fantastic mate awesome channel mate
Thank you! Cheers!
good vid nice work on layout thanks lee
Glad you enjoyed it
What a fabulous update Rich! My goodness you have certainly progressed loads with the grassy coverage, so I think the least you deserve is a doggy biscuit for Lulu 😉 🦴
Seriously good stuff though mate and I am going to have a look at that chap’s videos as that is a really good looking result 😎 As for young Dan, he gets everywhere doesn’t he? 🤔 Have to say though that commission he just completed looked astonishingly good so I am quite sure it was even better in the flesh so to speak. Did you make sure that he didn’t snaffle the shunter that he took a shine to? 😅
Look forward to the next update mate. Are you at Ally Pally? 🍻🍀👍
Nick video 😊
Nice work Richard, I think your Stobarts track rubber delivery might get stuck if it goes over the brow of that hill😉.
Ha, you never know!
Hi mate great work I am looking forward to the BR MK2B/c coaches mate
Oooo yes, I missed out on preorder so everything crossed for spares 😅
Is the Stobart company transporting track cleaners these days?? A very nice update Richard!! Many thanks for sharing! Cheers Onno.
Yes, its the best way to remember where I put it 😅
Verry well done
Thanks!
Hi Richard
You made so easy is thzt class 37 a new purchase from model Scotland
Great video
It's been in my cabinet a while, needed a run lol
I didn't know how much hard work and skill goes in to this. A lot of love too.. great work
Do you put pot holes in the road too now!
People do, although the holes in my roads happen as I can't apply plaster 😅
I was on the train near Hadley Wood a week ago or so and saw the green fences which made me think of your layout! The grass looks great. Are those rail tour coaches with the restaurants new?
Will be saving this video for whenever I eventually get to this stage, loving the difference how the 3D elements just adds that extra realism, plus makes it more eye catching to photograph. Also is the grass additions the main reason why you've not added ballast to the heritage line until later on?
Great help for my future projects for my Rhineland layout. Just unable to open the link to wwscenics.
The layered static grass is looking fantastic! I have to ask if there is a plan for those black-sleepered points on the mainline? They stick out to me every episode. Loving the progress you are making though!
wait until you see w.h.w.w. new magnetic couplings !!! awesome !
Can't wait!
me too , so strong and as good as accurascale are they will be replaced with these one's , i hope lol@@NewJunction
nice choice of music too during the grassing sequence 4:07.
What is the song please? as its an ear worm!!
Together in the Dark
By Chester Malone feat. Maja Norming
you have a shed next to your signal box is that part of the model or is that a add on
love what you have done
Hi Paul, it was a separate building from the same range 😊
Great work Richard, I'm at a similar stage with mine, question, how many cans of spray have you used?
Only one so far, it lasts a while
Hi Richard another great video the embankments look so much different now they have got grass the yellow class 37 looks amazing against the grass love the van with the new junction logo are they available to buy with your own personal logo on when I spoke to you at GETS last year I forgot to ask you where you got it from
Best wishes
Kev Beighton Parkway Sheffield
Out of curiosity what is the purpose of the crocodile clip?
Looks great! Will you have to take off or replace the fencing when you take the layout to exhibitions?
Nope, there's a gap where the baseboards join up
That looks superb. Rough cost of materials for that area?
Not much at all, around £30/40
What happened to the garden railway project?
How long have you had that Network Rail class 37?
I only ask because I sold a box with 2 of them on eBay a couple of months ago.
You seem to have three Restaurant Cars on that train, is there something special at the end of the journey?
It's part of a larger railtour rake 😅
I would really like to know what copyright free music you used for this video? Excellent scenic work.
It's not, it's pay per use stuff
@@NewJunction thanks.
Think you went further than 'an so it begins'
To quote someone in my company, that's Green Gold!!
How late did you stay out doing that? But when you get on a roll, you just have to go with the flow
Never tried static grass myself, most of my green is hanging baskets liner
Was not expecting a full vid this week given you had a trip over the wall, and very glad you found the time
That has made such a huge jump, I hope you're feeling a little chuffed
Thanks as always for sharing
@@briansewell7263 pleasure, thanks for the comment!
I'm sure you mentioned it at one time, but what were you spraying down before the static grass? Now all you need is some sheep to keep the static grass trimmed...😂
