Nolan is the one director, who is able to produce very difficult and complex themes and make them an emotional experience of the highest quality.
May joyfully continue this legacy for decades to come 🤩
I never got the criticism about Nolan being a cold filmmaker. Most of his movies have extremely emotional moments. I've always thought Nolan's strength is his ability to combine cerebral concepts with deeply emotional characters.
I never got that criticism either. It's just ppl trying to nitpick and find a flaw.
Can’t name one film of his that wasn’t emotionally striking
I get it. There's a stark contrast between the somewhat technical (tedious? cold?) exercises Memento, Inception, Tenet versus the more dramatic storytelling of Interstellar, Oppenheimer, Dunkirk.
@@VonJay Dunkirk, Tenet, Interstellar, Dark Knight Rises, Inception. There are attempts at emotion, but they mostly don't land.
@@zornuMemento: Leonard realizes Teddy has been using him and in spite decides to make him his next victim - creepy as f7ck and yet sympathetic . Inception: Behind the whole heist Don has to deal with the guilt of the death of his wife and he finally does when he realizes he spent an eternity with her on limbo - cathartic as few love stories. Tenet: the Protagonist realizes that Pattinson sacrificed his life for him and the cause and then he sees him again and realizes he is going willingly into that sacrifice which gets a friendship goodby. Whomever didn’t get that from those films they simply didn’t put any attention.
I’m really pleased Nolan chose to shoot this in 65mm (projected in 70mm). We will be seeing this projected in its intended form tomorrow. So many beautifully shot films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia used this - yet only a few after 2000, such as The Master. GREAT to see it revived for an historic film.
Hell yes. I wish more filmmakers would embrace the format. It's like grand opera.
Nuclear Fission is the splitting of a single atom. Nuclear Fusion is the combination of two or more atoms. Both processes produce massive amounts of energy, but Fission creates radioactive by-product. Fusion is a safer way of producing tons of energy.
Great review! Hoping Hollywood creates more movies like this one! 5/5
Oppenheimer is a masterpiece. Nolan is a genius. Murphy and Downey Jr delivered the best performances of their careers. The score is brilliant. If I didn't love Interstellar so much, I would say this is Nolan's best work to date
One of the best films I've ever seen, Oppenheimer is a masterpiiece. this film should win many awards. Murphy and Downey Jr, are both brilliant.
I saw Oppenheimer on the 20th in 70mm. It is fantastic! I need to see it a few more times just to be sure I don't miss anything!
Not an empty seat in the theater and the entire audience was completely engaged for the full 3 hours!
Cillian Murphy is so captivating and this movie really shows his amazing talent! RDJ delivered a great performance as well! And Flo Pugh reminds us once again that she is worthy of rubbing shoulders with the As!
The cinematography and score are phenomenal!
IMO this may be Nolan's best work! At least one of his top 3!
Not a Nolan guy, but I dug this. This had a pulse in a way that many of his films don't. Cillian Murphy has always had the chops to be a leading man & I'm glad Nolan allowed him to showcase that here, rather than leaving him on the sidelines like usual.
Every once in a while we get a movie like '28 Days Later' or 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley' where he gets to take center stage and obviously 'Peaky Blinders', but this movie really feels like the moment his entire career has been building toward.
Personally i think Cillian should at least get nomination for Sunshine. I would even give him Oscar.
Just curious why ur not a Nolan fan ?.... I like to hear different people's opinions on these type of things I love Christopher Nolan but it would have to say David Fincher is my guy... and of course that is not to dismiss Scorsese Spielberg Tarantino Etc
Most of Nolan’s movies felt stylish on the outside and hokey on the inside to me-either resting on forced and implausible plot twists, or full of characters wearing plot armors…I hope he did the grown-up thing to do in Oppenheimer and favored substance over style.
@@geoffschnoogs6888 Imagine comparing Nolan movies, which are some of the most sexless films in existence, to sex. lol
Have you seen Peaky Blinders? Cillian Murphy's performance as Tommy Shelby is one of the best in television. A really fun binge, I highly recommend it. After seeing his work on that show I knew he would absolutely kill it as Oppenheimer.
I think I saw the first 3 seasons and absolutely loved but I need to get back on the horse and finish the journey.
Woman here who hasn't been to the movies in a while cause of all the BS we've being getting finally went back to the movies for Oppenheimer and what a treat it was. I can't shake that ending scene it is so haunting it stays with you.
This is by far the best review i’ve seen of this film. So eloquent and so concise. I understood everything you said and resonated with it all. I also can relish in the suggestion that this indeed might be his “magnum opus”. It hit every category for me and then some
Saw it in 70mm in Portland, Oregon tonight! It was an amazing adaptation of American Prometheus (I continue recommending this book to everyone) However a book that is just as good (Pulitzer prize winner as well), and an obvious inspiration in this movie dialogue is taken straight out of this book is “The making of the atomic bomb” by Richard Rhodes it’s amazing
Hollywood theater? Going tomorrow myself
Much obliged for the heads up! I'm currently hip deep in a giant tome about the career of Howard Hawks, but I'll put both of your suggestions on my must-read list.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Love your videos James!! Hope you never stop making them Especially your top 10 lists This film is one of those rare cases where going in blind is not ideal, it is ENHANCED -not overshadowed- by the source material.
As a suggestion- I always wondered why no one ever makes this list but I think it’d be perfect for you- “Movies that are BETTER than the book they’re based on”
I thought Safdie did just fine, in fact it was a while before I even recognised him. HOWEVER... Cilliam Murphy gave a performance that goes down as one of the greatest ever. He is working on the level of Pacino in Godfather Part II or DeNiro in Raging Bull. It is a marvellous, nuanced, subtle, deep, and layered performance. Magnificent.
3:45 is a really good point. I’m sick of everything being political and I say this as a woman of colour. Movies and stories are meant to be a pure form of transferring emotions and ideas. It’s why stories have been around since the stone ages. We get to engage and empathises with things we never would’ve been able to otherwise. With more filmmakers like Nolan (and despite his eccentricity and apparent death wish, Tom Cruise) I really hope these directors and distributors realise we don’t want soulless remakes or politically provocative charades. We just want good stories and to have a good time or engage in interesting concepts. That’s obviously not to say that a movie can’t tackle sensitive issues regarding politics or other social tensions but it should be done so in a genuine and nuanced way that doesn’t shove things down your throat. Now that that rant is over I’ve got to say, great video. I’m really excited for this movie, Nolan is probably my favourite director and for context I’m 18 so I definitely grew up with the dark knight trilogy and inception is definitely in my top 10 movies of all time. It’s interesting to see how generations of filmmakers inspire the next and so on, pretty cool stuff!
If you've ever dabbled with watching Full Metal Jacket or 2001 a Space Odyssey, then I'd say it reminds me of those films. The quality and attention to detail on this movie reminded me of Kubricks movies.
This is probably the kind of movie that deserves the title of masterpiece in my eyes. The pacing was great, especially for the more intense scenes, characters had their important roles and acted out phenomenally. This movie has really reminded me on the grey areas throughout history of the past.
As a nerd, a woman in STEM, and someone who loves pink, this was the most perfect weekend in cinema for me. I was the perfect target for both movies hahaha and in fact, watched them today. I agree with you, first Oppenheimer and then Barbie.
No CGI at all? I can't believe Nolan really set the atmosphere on fire at the end 😭
Just found this channel a couple of weeks ago and I’m happy I can refer to a real “film critic” on YT each time I have to explain why other youtubers are only “reviewers” at best.
Many thanks for the kind words. I'm happy just to describe what I do as commentary, but I'm thrilled to hear you are enjoying what I have to say.
I'd love to see a video of your book and graphic novel collection. Spotted some that are personal favorites.
I keep meaning to. I might just need to do a few livestreams where I go one section at a time.
I just found your channel recently....wow so refreshing to hear intelligent and thoughtful reviews...great job!!!
Many thanks for the kind words and I'll do best to keep cranking out content that is worth your time and attention.
Great review, James. Have read so much about this time in history and really want to see how Nolan handles it. And Lewis Strauss was a fellow Virginian of ours, he had a big farm in Culpeper.
Well RDJ doesn't make much of an effort to sound as if he's from Culpeper, but it was great to see him delivering a serious performance again.
I was extremely pleased with how this film turned out. Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of boneheads saying that was it was boring, that it didn't have enough explosions etc. It just seems obvious that these types of people - and there are a lot of them - do not value the exceptional attention to detail and nuance that Christopher Nolan brings to filmmaking. So, so much fun and emotional to watch.
It is hard to remember the last time a 3-hour drama kept me so enthralled in the theater. I imagine that a lot of younger viewers have never had that experience due to the proliferation of blockbusters in the 21st century.
they want to be solely entertained rather than be inspired by top filmmaking. Nothing wrong with that, but Oppenheimer ain't that kind of entertaining movie for them...
Fusion is “fusing two things together”, usually small atoms, Fission is breaking them apart, like Uranium or Plutonium.
Much obliged! It's been many moons since I took my last physics class back in the Nineties.
Tenet is my fav nolan movie LMFAO
[haven`t seen oppy yet]
I need to revisit 'Tenet'. Caught it in IMAX when it came out but I was distracted by the person I saw it with who was losing their mind over people getting near us.

Nuff said. Im in. Been begging for a movie not necessarily made to appeal to younger audiences
Nolan's best film. The 3 hours flashed by. 10/10...
Thank you for the review! I am a history professor and am looking forward to the movie. I hope it is historically accurate. I made a short 5 minute video on my channel if anyone is interested in the basic history before or after you see the movie! happy to share! I hope to see the movie tomorrow.
I haven't read the book the movie is based upon so I can't say for sure, but I look forward to hearing your reaction!
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I have not read the book either, but I understand it was a very accurate book.
Thank you for the review! You are the only reviewer I find myself watching regularly. You are always so thoughtful and insightful. Can't wait to see this film.
Well you just made my day. Thanks for the kind words and I hope I have not been guilty of overselling the movie, lol.
I saw Barbie first last night (loved it) and Oppenheimer today. It was completely mesmerizing and I feel like I now need my own podcast to discuss the two. So. Many. Layers. Well done, filmmakers! Cillian can get it over Leo and Brad any day at my box office.
as always, I enjoy your enthusiasm. I'm 61 and I really can't stand all the special effects so I'm glad to hear this. Film is yes the film and a good one. when I first heard Lady Gaga, it reminded me of this film said I was just too many special effects, and I wished I could actually hear her voice without all the technology..
I hope Christopher Nolan wins awards for his work sounds very ambitious. Interesting.
Well the good news is we're going to be getting a lot of Lady Gaga in the very near future when she stars in 'Joker 2'. I hope she knocks it out of the park.
Well the good news is we're going to be getting a lot of Lady Gaga in the very near future when she stars in 'Joker 2'. I hope she knocks it out of the park.
I think Lady Gaga has a very beautiful voice, and I just love hearing it. I don't want her voice to compete with anything anyway, she's got to be really sad because her idol Tony Bennett passed away.
Great review!! I cannot wait to see this amazing movie. Especially because I visited Los Alamos while stationed near White Sands Missile Range and also visited where the Trinity test took place.
Now that sounds like a road trip worth taking. I imagine it was a fascinating experience.
I love your reviews I’ve been hoping for good news the other reviews aren’t as astute or as bright as you. So this makes me want to see it now.
Well thank for the high praise. I just chug a bunch of coffee and start ranting and hope for the best.
First video I’ve seen by you and very impressed with your rationale on filmmaking, Kubrick, and young filmmakers as well as the importance of making real films. Hats off!
I'm going to see this in 70mm at Village East next week with a friend. I was passed a copy of American Prometheus a couple of years ago, loved it and have been anticipating this movies since I heard it was announced. I'm really looking forward to it! Always appreciate your hearing your take James. Onward and Upward!
I expected nothing less from the best director of this century! excellent review! looking forward to seeing this one!
I hope I didn't oversell it but it sounds like you are primed and ready for the experience.
Great synoptic review, thank you
The thanks goes to you for listening to me blabber away!
Thank you for your review. Oppenheimer is #1 on my watch list for this year. Happy to hear that the hype is real. Is there a chance that you're planning a review on Cobweb? It's coming out this weekend on a limited run and getting good reviews. Wonder why there's no major advertising for the film.
I totally forgot that 'Cobweb' was coming out. Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you for the thoughtful review! I can't wait to see it!
Thanks for listening to what I had to say. Fingers crossed, folks enjoy it as much as I did.
If Insomnia and Dunkirk are the worse you can do, you're doing it on the top tear level, historic director for sure.
Want to see it at the waterloo imax in London. Bit will be some weeks before I can get a a ticket. Maybe late August!!! Its crazy!
Can't wait to see this movie !! I see that Matt Damon is playing General Leslie Groves. In a previous movie about this subject "Fat man and Little Boy" (the names given to the 2 atom bombs dropped on Japan ) Paul Newman !! played General Groves and Dwight Schultz (The A Team and Star Trek the Next Generation) played Oppenheimer.
I caught 'Fat Man and Little Boy' on HBO as a kid but sadly remember very little. I need to revisit it.
That accent was giving Benny Safdie fits!
The score was amazing. Nice job on the recap
We are long overdue in seeing Benny back behind the camera. Any idea what he and his brother are working on?
I trust your movie reviews the best . Another famous UA-camr Grace Randolph said this movie sucked I used to watch her channel but I just can’t trust her opinion anymore.
Grace Randolph is so annoying. I stopped watching her reviews years ago. The Marvels is coming out soon, that's probably a film that's more up her alley which I presume she'll call a masterpiece lol
Lol, I'd love to have a small percentage of her success but I'm right there with you on her taste in movies.
I loved teller in the movie! The guy was great
This is Nolan's Masterpiece
I 100% agree.
Thanks for your review and thoughts James. ✌️
Thanks for listening to me ramble on about it!
Best review I've so far heard about Op.
James, Is the AMC Lincoln Center NYC playing the film version of the IMAX 70mm or has it been digitized. I see that they do have standard 70mm showings too, whioch I assume is film, but I was wondering of the IMAX version is the film version at that theater. I'm not a snob about it at all, I'm just curious. I'm sure the digitized version is incredible too. I'm seeing it in a Dolby Prime room this weekend first, and then in 70mm IMAX in Lincoln Center next weekend, because the tickets for showings at that particular IMAX theater are in super duper high demand. It's sold out or close to sold out for weeks, even for daytime shows during the week. I think the IMAX $$ numbers for this movie are going to be through the roof.
Don't quote me but I believe the AMC Lincoln Center is the only option New Yorkers have to see the movie the way Nolan intended. I couldn't get in so I saw it at 34th Street.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I'm seeing it the Dolby room at 34th street tomorrow. I got the last row in the Lincoln Center IMAX the *following* week!! Haha. Hey, I'm in the room at least! And I reserved that seat on June 5th!! Everything was selling so fast I couldn't even get a seat in the middle until the second weekend, and it was in the back row! Crazy time!
The open caption format spells Strauss “straws”. Kind of glad I chose open captions, really helped you know who was who during the movie. IMAX sold out for a week where I am.
I can’t tell what was more incendiary, Florence Pugh or the Atomic bomb? 🔥 💥
The impact was seismic, lol. Holy smokes!
It’s a masterpiece
It hits you from every angle and hard to capture all of it the first time
Fantastic to watch you in your element here. Great review.
Many thanks! Caffeine deserves all the credit!
I'm a huge Nolan fan, but I really think this is the best film of his career. It is the first time I've ever felt compelled to see a movie twice in theaters.
I appreciate your review James. I enjoyed the movie incredibly due to the writing, direction and sound editing and camera work. The sound was hands down some of the best work Nolan has ever done. I completely disagree with you however about Florence Pugh. I felt her character and arc were basically pointless and fell really flat. I wasn’t even impressed with the nudity honestly and failed to see how it was relevant. And I loved her in d+ series Hawkeye. But that said- the acting elsewhere was simply superb in every way. I do see what you say about the dude who played Ed Teller but it was tolerable.
Nolan is reaching genius level for sure.
So glad to hear it. Can’t wait for Sunday for my time to see it.
Ticket sales look pretty solid so far. Hope your crowd gets into it the same way mine seemed to.
Amazing review and analysis James. Always enjoy your enthusiasm. Hate to digress but there was much ambivalence about Barry Lyndon when it was released. It was too long (true) and it was gorgeous (true too, it was all done with natural lighting)Haven’t seen this yet, however I must admit my favorite Nolan Film was Inception. One of the best climactic scenes in movie history. Hans Zimmer’s score for that sequence, also at its highest point in the film
Inception was an absolute blast. I saw it 3 times in the theater.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock best climatic moment and corresponding music plus the remainder of the movie. Despite ENDLESS discussion about the finale scene - I’m pretty sure it was real.
The relentless analysis said that if Michael Caine was in the scene it meant it was reality🖖☮️
I can't stop watching you're reviews! They are honest and awesome. Interstellar not in the top5?! prestige # 1 for me
Heard there was a lot talking in rooms....for the IMAX?
Christopher Nolan had always been up there for me, but this movie puts him over the top wow wow wow
Agreed. He has so many great movies to his name, but he seems to have leveled up again. Very fired up to see what the future has in store for him.
Awesome to hear. I'm looking forward to it. I'm gonna watch it in a couple of hours.
Nice! Go early. The theaters here in NYC are a total mob scene from all the competition this weekend.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I went early and the theater was packed which was great to see.
I liked the film. The silence and imagery right after the bomb explodes is hauntingly beautiful. But my fav scene was when he's geving the speech but feeling the exact opposite with the sound of the victims accompanied by the imagery, was very strong.
Interstellar is still my personal favorite of his but this is undoubtedly one of his best films.
Thank you for this! Cannot wait to see it. 👏
Hope you find it as enthralling as I did!
Now id Spielberg could do a remake of "A Bridge too far" he could pull ahead of Nolan.
Not a fan of Spielberg, no thanks
Is this even being considered?
@@nickhtk6285 doubtful. Some random youtuber typed it and was irked me and I made the mistake of responding
@@batgurrl I'd never thought about a remake. Would make a decent TV series but given the declassified material from the archives, some may not like the updated story is told.
@@nickhtk6285 probably not. For good reasons. But I was just thinking of a movie that would be a home run if done, say to the level of private Ryan.
@ the theatre now to see Oppenheimer! Huge Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan fan!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hell yeah! Enjoy. I'm a massive fan of both of them as well.
It was great! Thanks so much and great review, James!❤❤❤❤😊
Great review, but what's with the thirsting about Florence 😂? It could've been phrased a little better
Really well said. For those who do not live in the Western continents, we have to wait months for the release of Oppenheimer. Already read American Prometheus, so anticipating without worrying too much about spoilers in these post-watch reactions and reviews.
For those who don't know. In Greek mythology, Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and bestowed it upon man.
Universal is making a major blunder by not releasing this Fall simultaneously around the world. Always helps when everyone is talking about a movie at the same time.
Amazing review! Watched every minute
Thanks for sticking with me throughout my rambling rant!
Also did you here about Warner Brothers potentially delaying Dune Part 2 to 2024 because of the Writers/actors strike going on this makes me mad because it’s been one of my favorite movies to look forward too
If that happens, I will cry for days.
Saw this movie twice this week: regular IMAX (Liemax) and 70mm film. Florence Pugh looked great in both.
I havent yet seen this film as the source material doesnt really interest me, but Bennie Safdie Safdie is a fantastic actor. His work in Good Time blew me away
First time hearing about the three concepts I think of Kubrick as a person having his foot in all three.
i found teller's character very interesting, so i think that might bias me towards safdie's performance but I thought it was good
gonna check this out
Hope you dig it!
thumbnail look like he getting the sloppenheimer lol
I can’t wait to see this movie fr, I hope I’ll manage to see it on imax
Well worth the drive. These experiences don't come along that often.
great stuff sir.
Thanks for giving it a listen!
I agree with your list of Nolan films, starting with Batman Begins, I've seen every one of his films in theaters
hi there, great review, mostly agree, I think this is Nolans best work when you look at the script. but for me the Zimmer-Nolan chemistry isn't reached yet by Gorensen. It's certainly a really good score, I like the choice for violins; they can be really haunting but also really lovely to hear, witch is a good match with Oppenheimer, and maybe Zimmer would be a bit too bombastic for this film, and is better matched with a film that has a bit more action in it,
however.. im not sure why but I miss the magic that some of the Nolan/Zimmer colaborations had, that almost matched Williams/Spielberg,, where the sum of the score+the images was more then the sum of its parts. Mainly in Dunkirk, the tention building was so supremely done.. I just didn't feel it in that impactful manner in this film, not even in the final moment of the film when Oppenheimer shares this really disturbing thought, although I think that moment is the best movie ending I've seen the last couple of years.
Gary Oldman is in this??!!
Indeed. I overlooked him on imdb in advance but he shows up for one scene and makes the most of it.
Indeed. I overlooked him on imdb in advance but he shows up for one scene and makes the most of it.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock good to hear. Hate he has barely done anything since the churchill film but glad hes onscreen again
Man if you're doing Barbenheimer absolutely DO NOT go and see Oppemheimer first!!! Barbie is a lot of fun and pretty meta, and Oppenheimer is HEAVY, and you're gonna want to let it sit with you for a while afterwards. We did Barbie, had a lot of fun at that and then did crazy golf and drinks in the break, and then Oppenheimer. If we had done Oppenheimer first, we would not have had as fun a time inbetween, and certainly wouldn't have been in the mood for a fun film like Barbie afterwards!
I actually quite liked Safdie as Dr. Teller
I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see this 3 hour drama being a huge box office success for today's audiences. Most young people nowadays don't know nor care about history, unless there's action, like war or medieval films.
I'm not expecting it to be a monster blockbuster but luckily it doesn't have to be. They kept the budget down to $100 million so as long as it performs on the level of a movie like 'Dunkirk' I think Universal will be pleased with their gamble.
I thought Nolan left Warner Bros because of the same-date streaming releases for the whole year of 2021 with HBO Max. That's what I thought. We didn't hear about the rift until after that happened. That happened several months after Tenet was released.
Well put. I can't see it in IMAx, but I'm looking forward to seeing it tomorrow. I can't wait! I lived in Los Alamos on and on off for 13 years. I hope this gives a glimpse of this culture. It's a very complex culture. With a ton of cognitive dissonance. I'm still healing from my time in Los Alamos. NO MORE NUCLEAR WAR OR WEAPONS! Stop nuclear weapons now! And,, there needs to be made a film about Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
Excellent review
Many thanks! This video was a pleasure to make.
I've had a pretty great summer of movies at the theater so far: Beau Is Afraid × 2, The Outwaters, Dial of Destined to see it regardless of how awfully disappointing & Fuck Disney, MI:7 Dead Reckoning × 2, Oppenheimer × 2, Barbie, Talk To Me (ASAP) . . .
Still have The Creator and Killers of the Flower Moon coming soon, and I'm not sure if Fincher's The killer is gonna be in theaters near me or at all, but it's been fairly satisfying so far, not to mention some great indie films at home like The Five Devils, Enys Men, etc.
When are we getting Havoc on netflix?
Apparently the new WB leadership wants Nolan back. Im curious about whether he'll stay with Universal for his next project or go back to WB
If I were Zaslav I would back up a dump truck of money to Nolan's doorstep and tell him, "Make anything you like."
Just by James' gasps I can tell Florence Pugh shows her boobs in this movie.
At the very least. Betcha James was having a chain reaction in his shorts! 😂
Bless her heart.
This movie was definitely for history nerds I was half asleep watching it
I mean Emily Blunt’s performance here needs an award. She should be nominated in the supporting category along with RDJ. RDJ is Salieri.
PSA If you cant handle 3 storylines simultaneously, this movie might be a bit much for you.
On the surface, Oppenheimer and Barbie may appear to be fundamentally different. That being said, audience members can reflect on what both movies are communicating on a fundamental level about humans and the societies that we construct. Does life imitate art or does art imitate life? Cheers, mate...☀
Benny Safdie was actually amazing IMO. Honestly I don’t see how someone can say he was “awful” but it’s ok 😂.
I agree. Benny Safdie has been wildly astonishing me with each acting performance I've seen him give. And I'm just gonna say it...

I had a similar experience in my theater where it felt like the audience was all under a spell.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock 👍
Why exactly do we need to see this in theaters? To see how big Cillian Murphy’s head can get? Does it require communal viewing? I’ve seen it and don’t believe it justifies “seeing it on the big screen.” Wait for streaming so at least when you inevitably fall asleep you can always rewind without feeling like you wasted your time and money.
@MideXIII well.."You" dont... but maybe "we" all do.. I saw it in IMAX 70mm and it was phenomenal!!,,,, if you want to sit at home and watch movies then you do you... some movies warrant the big screen and this was one of them..imo... additionally some people enjoy the audience Movie experience.... that's cool if you don't but don't try and spoil it for everybody else then you're just like a big you know Debbie Downer
don't know how or where I'm gonna see this one I may have to travel to a big big screen lol
Absolutely worth the trip. Find the biggest screen you can.

Beautiful! A true movie lover.
Must admit I’ve never seen Dunkirk
It's not that hard of a commitment. Plus it's one of Nolan's shortest films. Beware of the 3 concurrent timelines though. They get a bit more trickier to follow when they clash at the climax.
It fucking rocks and gets even better the second time through.
Loved the first two hours, but boy that final hour is a slog to get through. Not a bad film at all, but doesn't stick the landing for me. After seeing this I now want more than ever for James Cameron to film his version of what happened in Hiroshima.
Sadly James Cameron's dance card is full until the end of time making more Avatar flicks.

Sad this is gonna be a-bomb. Get it?
Lol, well I think it is tracking to open around $45 million which be in line with how 'Dunkirk' performed, a movie that gradually performed very well. I'm hoping 'Oppenheimer' can replicate that success.
