Author Hugh Johnson on Wine, Words, and How to Write for a Living

World-renowned British author Hugh Johnson spoke at UC Davis' Peter J. Shields Library on October 12, 2023. Johnson discusses his career as a wine writer, which has spanned more than half a century.
Considered the world’s best-selling wine writer, Johnson began by writing for magazines like Condé Nast Publications, Vogue, and House & Garden, became the editor of Wine & Food and wine correspondent of The Sunday Times, and ultimately published a number of books on wine that have sold millions of copies around the world. He donated his archive of manuscripts and research to the UC Davis Library in 2016.
