Well, they say New Zealand is beautiful, but after a 17hrs flight, any piece of land is strikingly beautiful
Air New Zealand is one of the finest airlines in the world. Their service to JFK should be very comfortable with exceptional in flight service. Have flown them many times & have always been impressed.
I remember when El Al held the record for the world's longest non-stop: some 10 hours from New York to Tel Aviv. Sometime in the 1970s. We've come a long way baby.
Have you heard about Tehran THR to New York JFK route in the 70s? that was a 12 hour flight. This route was one of the reasons why 747SP became a reality
@@ehsan83 After that Pan Am had a 16-hour non-stop from Bahrain to New York. Also a record in its day.
@@jonathandanilowitz795 i think it was Dhahran, Saudi Arabia not Bahrain. i remember this flight.
Yes, I'd do it. I hear New Zealand is beautiful and the people are nice. I hope this service will become a great success.
Bit biased coming from a new Zealander but nz definitely has its highs!
Beautiful but the people are overrated. This is coming from a kiwi.
@@robbyfn true, to much gang violence
We are..😉
I recently did the Darwin-London direct flight with Qantas (In economy). It was my first long-haul flight- let alone an ultra long haul flight and I actually found it very comfortable. I think the idea of these ultra long haul flights makes a lot of people a bit uncomfortable but I seriously think they’re so beneficial.
They're much better than spending 6 hours sitting in Dubai or wherever, or transferring then spending 5 hours in some US aircraft at the end of your journey.
Good on ya DJ! Don't really fancy a 17 hour flight (though probably almost bearable in business class). Bear in mind that economy flights to LAX followed by US customs and immigration queues before boarding an American carrier to NYC was never really a picnic either!!
DJ been working a lot watching your videos now😀😀
Being a NZ citizen is a privilege
It will be amazing to see that livery over NYC, historical moment in Aviation
You have an amazing aviation channel! One of my favorite. Keep it up
This is amazing. I can't wait. I will be reviewing this on my UA-cam channel.
AirNZ has to be the best experiences I have had , I did fly auckland vancouver direct , plane was very nice , nice food and staff.
I flew the London to Perth 2020 just before the pandemic, with Quantas and i think its great that the altra long hauls are coming through.
Keep going I've been watching you for years.
With these lengthy flights people have to remember they must get up and walk around to avoid DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS, OR DVT. Failure to do so can cause health issues, although I am sure Air New Zealand will address this on the aircraft
This is a hidden aspect never mentioned but known for decades...
Several times I have done the Auckland-Houston trip and used premier economy choosing the rear seats window side and twice with no adjacent passenger for best privacy, preselecting travel date for best value including travel miles. Legroom and space/ amenities excellent for my 6'1", used Gold AirNZ for first class lounges, showers and best food. Always an excellent crew.
I'm hoping to be making that flight out of Houston, myself. Even signed up for Air Points so I'll be raking them in with Premium Economy. I have never flown longer than 6 hours a so 15 hour flight is where I need to have a bit of luxury. Wish me luck.
Hell yeah, I'm there. As long as its a premium seat or up. The trick to this flight, I think, is for them to schedule the NY to Auckland at night, may be around 10.30pm. Whenever I fly from JFK/EWR to MNL via TPE or HKG or even SIN, I take the latest flight out so I can 3-4 hrs of the flight on a little work, meal, movie then spend 8-9 hrs sleeping. When you wake up, you have about 3 to 5hrs left and between a little more work, meals, movie & stretching out, its time to land.
The schedule is already out there. Departs JFK at 9:55pm
departs NZ around 19:00 HRS.
won’t likely be premium and above, it likely will be a normal plane, or even possibly the sky chair seat things they have
@@binchickenstoleyourchips That didn't really make sense.
@@binchickenstoleyourchips sounds like you don't know what you're talking about?
Three years flew ANZ between Houston and Auckland RT, about 14 hours. I thought I would hate it but it was not bad at all. Premium economy was a great deal, similar to US domestic FC. A ticket for 7 flights was about $3k including US connections, an inter island flight and flights between New Zealand and Australia. Great airline! Sadly, our trip was in a 777 given the RR Trent issues with the 787 we were originally scheduled on for the long flights.
I do prefer 787’s on long haul because of the pressure and humidity.
@@davidsilver4339 We were bummed they were out of service but the 777 really wasn't bad at all.
@@boatlover1875 no difference at all on these apart from as the person said above pressure and humidity and the 777 actually has bigger seats up the front end on the 777.
they are DEVELOPING/refitting their premium classes right now.
We have already booked our Auckland to NYC and return connecting from/to Sydney in September.
Length of flight no problem for us.
Easy transit in Auckland and USA immi/customs at final destination, not some interim USA stop where you have to worry about connections.
Really excited for Air New Zealand's longest flight to New York City, so I wish everyone the best reviews for this trip! Also, in light of New Zealand's border reopening, I hope that American Airlines may reboot plans for its NZ expansion to Auckland and Christchurch as well sometime soon.
Aiming for a holiday to New York in April 2023. Amazing that I’ll be able to go to New York with only one stop in Auckland from my home town at the very bottom of New Zealand that is now connected to Auckland with a direct A320 service.
Ur get mugged in nyc
Awesome video
Definitely up for BNE-AKL-JFK - but only in Business Class - the idea of 17 hours squashed in Economy is too much to bare ...
I would fly 17 hours specially if you are going home. I fly 14 hours from Los Angeles to Cebu Philippines with my wife. I enjoy your videos and please keep them coming. I have a special spot in my video library.
I would love to fly an ultra long haul flight but just say that Economy would be strenuous for my 6’1” height. I had flown Air New Zealand years ago and loved their service. Thank you for the review!
Hell yes, I would do this!! I am gonna try to get on the inaugural flight!
great video👍🏻
I once flew Thai non-stop from BKK to JFK. Seems like it was about 18 hours. Long for sure, but great service throughout made it quite pleasant.
Hell yeah!!! Count me in New Zealand !! I want to be in that inaugural flight!!!!
Air NZ was the last airline that I flew OS on pre pandemic and I loved it. Being from Adelaide this flight has a lot of appeal as I'd miss the hassle of customs and immigration via SYD or MEL. Give me an aisle seat and I'm good to go.
I’ve flown Qantas economy long haul on the 747 and A380, and found it distinctly lacking compared with other economy products. Not sure I’d trust their Subrise routes. Air New Zealand on the other hand -/ not flown them, but hear good things, and would love to give them a chance and visit NZ again one day!
By the way, thanks DJ for your videos! Enjoyable, interesting and friendly commentary. Keep up the great work.
I operate MIA-ICN on the 747 freighter at about 16+30 block time. There are 4 of us on the crew. It’s a long day for sure!
17 hours... Sounds like fun 😱
Can’t wait.
As a resident of Hobart, who's airport has one international destination (Auckland) it makes sense to fly three hours to Auckland, then 17 to New York, rather than one hour to Melbourne, then 20 plus hours to New York...
I am so wanting to visit Hobard and Bruny Island. But so far from my home airport. PWM
its more than 3hrs to AKL
I always love traveling, I love more the trip rather than the destination whether in economy or I prefer business class or better
I would only consider Business if not only First Class. That is a very long time. Imagine sitting in your chair at home for 18 hours!
Would def like to give it a go and on Air New Zealand it would be fantastic
Hope it goes ahead... Im booked in 58F on the inaugural flight NZ2 on the 17th Sep.. 58F back to Auckland NZ1 on the 3rd Oct.... 👍🛫
It’s going to be awesome! and I can’t wait for their rumoured Auckland to Calgary Canada direct service I hear they may launch soon
Keep up the good work I know it can be hard
Good one
I love ultra long haul flights. Serious. For a business person to relax 16+ hours of flight time in a business or first class pod or suite, the experience is relaxing. My favorite ultra long haul is Boston to Hong Kong on a Cathy Pacific 777.
I've always been watching your content mate, all the way through for quite a few years now, but some might be distracted from aviation by some pretty worrying World events.
Keep up the great work fella, you're much appreciated.
Sure I would fly the service.
I would prefer 17 hours nonstop over a stop.
Biman Bangladesh airline also launching their new route Dhaka to Toronto 14 hour flight with their 787-9.
I would do that flight with ANZ for sure! I have got extended family in NZ and having flown ANZ before would definitely consider them for the long haul to NZ from Europe 👍
If the time comes that I can afford a trip to Australia/New Zealand, I would jump at the opportunity to use these flights. I have already done the Kansas City to Auckland (via LAX on Southwest) then to Brisbane via Quantas and back in Economy and it was not that bad as long as one has a buttload of videos to watch on an iPad or a similar device.
My selections were Deadpool 1 and the entire run of Joss Whedon's Firefly. I could have used more to avoid repeats on the return trip...
I would def try it. May regret it afterwards, but a challenge nonetheless!
Hell yes!
Booked on the first flight akl to jfk !
Oh my god. That was pretty surprising
Stay safe always mate
Biman Bangladesh Airlines Today launched 18 hour long flight to Toronto from Dhaka with the 787-9
Im actually doing a 15 1/2 hour trip on the qantas route to the US from Sydney in two weeks in economy actually Apparently this one is more comfortable too. I cant wait to see the 787-9s tbh
I am wanting to, I did the Chicago flight back in 2019 then caught the Amtrak to San Francisco
Island hopping, with overnight breaks, is the way to go--even if it's a little more expensive. There's more to life than getting there as quickly as possible.
An interesting amount of hours on board an aircraft!
Let's all give joshua and peter
@ LA Flights a big hello @
Boston Logan Airport of mystery !
with air new zealand bringing in there new cabin in 2024 i think this akl-jfk will be very comfortable
NZ1 & NZ2 were the former LHR to AKL via LAX
Yes I will go on it.
I did the DOHAKLDOH on Qatar Airways it was amazing
Done many Dubai Auckland flights on Emirates A380, also about 16 hrs out and 17 back. Good entertainment channels and sleep make it ok
Brilliant, would much rather get it all done in one as long as there is entertainment
Hope they have upgraded their business class seats
I already feel like screaming badly when I flew 10 hours on SQ. 17hrs? no thanks. hahahahhaha
YESS YESS YESS
Business Class... Maybe. Economy Class... Not a chance!!
Hopefully a new business class seat will be launched for it... because at the moment Air NZs current offering is crap for the ticket price. Premium Economy is better.
I flew a 17 hour flight from San Fransisco to singpapore and it was roughhhh. Somehow I made it through lol
Only in business 👍👍😎
I would have the time of my life!
One more generation of engine, and the 787-8 (with the fixed commonality between it and the 9/10) will be able to fly Singapore-NYC fully loaded without an extra auxiliary tank, and the -10 with a weight MTOW PIP should be able to make Aukland-Chicago. What times we live in...
IIRC, Air NZ had originally been planning to use their B777-300ER when this route was first announced back in 2019 for Oct 2020 but I'm probably misremembering. I would definitely consider NZ1 JFK-AKL. I have future North American travel ideas that may end in NYC so a direct flight back to NZ could be quite appealing, even if it means 17hrs in economy. As opposed to 6+hrs on a TransCon, 2-3hrs or more connecting in a West Coast airport, like LAX or SFO, then catching the 13hr TransPacific to NZL, still probably in economy.though.
I would take a flight from Vancouver Canada to Aukland or Sydney in a heartbeat (or 2). As long as there is attention paid to blood circulation via exercise and one eats sparingly the biggest hazard might be boredom and technology can take care of that.
Biman is about to start Toronto flight. Onward will be an eighteen hour flight.
When will IAD become a nonstop from Aukland?
If i ever take this flight i would probably be able to handle it because i just got back from a 15 hour flight from india in economy i still survived it even though i had discomfort in my feet
I would pay for Biz
Wishing them the very best of luck. I can't fly it as I live in the UK. There can be feeder flights from the UK with United though, but they do not serve JFK on long haul, so it will be a trek across New York, could not do that.
Next one is Auckland to London. Don’t want to caught in transit anywhere anymore
I can't wait for the nz border to re-open because I can finally fly from Auckland to new york and see america.
The standard of the economy class seats has dropped the seats are narrower and harder
Would not be fun in Economy, but otherwise great news! My longest flight was 14.5 hours and they had all Harry Potter and all Star Wars movies so I can't say I wasn't entertained haha.
Being Air New Zealand you would hope they could get Peter Jackson to edit the Lord of The Rings movies into a single movie that could only be seen by taking this flight.
I'd rather spend 17 hours in an Airbus A350 or 787 Dreamliner than going through Security terminals in lay over airports.
Why would you go through security unless you went outside the terminal?
@@sarahann530 bro? If a fly to lax with a stop at jfk, I have to go through security
@@afcacbs8544 You have to go through customs
I want to fly it though
The Dreamliner makes all the difference - the LHRPER QF on the B787 was a dream - no pun intended.
I really prefer 787 for long haul, too. I think it is the better pressure and humidity level in the cabins that help. I guess the A350 does that as well, but have never flown on one.
@@davidsilver4339 Me too - after we got off the 17.5h flight to Perth we looked at each other and said that was like a short flight! No never flown A350 either but don't think its pressure and humidity specs are as good as the 787.
If I do go to the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023, I'll probably be on that flight. But I'd absolutely use points to try to get business premier, as 17 hours in economy is certainly too much, although perhaps the skycouch would make things more bearable.
787 is the best sleep ive had in economy. So yes on 787.
Flown in all the big ones… 747, 777, 787, A380, A350.
777-300ER is the least comfortable. im hoping 777X will be similar from 787.
I think all airline should make the seat comfy to sit in if they want to do long haul.
Haven't they been planning to do this since 2019?
Isn't the service going out of EWR for connectivity with its partner's mega Hub. 😕 ?
I fly Israel (TLV) to LAX several times a year That flight is 15 hours and mostly economy on a 787-9 with ElAl. I dont think 2 or 3 hours more makes too much of a difference so I say ya, bring on the ultra long hauls.
It would be nice to see Air NZ back at LHR. This is what NZ1 & NZ2 used to be
17 hours in “ Y” class, no way José! Maybe not even in C or F. Keep sending your great videos mate, we love them.
I flew Houston to Sydney on a United 787 in economy that was over 16 hoiurs. it wasnt to bad
That would mean quite a lot of movies to sit through on the inflight entertainment system!
Any payload restrictions?
