    Reasons why bamboo is good.
1: Bamboo fibers can be 2-3 times stronger than timber. (Depends on type)
2: It grows much faster than wood.
3: It absorbs more carbon dioxide than trees, and it also releases more oxygen.
4: Because it grows quicker than wood, it can be cheaper. (If we mass grow it)
The only reason why we don’t use it more often, is because we are more use to wood. Using bamboo in relation with stone and bricks can provide cheaper housing.

Houses built by bamboo faces a grave problem because it cannot keep its strength by its nature. After 10 years the stability is getting weak. This problem has been solved by IBUKU by Elona Hardy and Jörg Stamm using a borate liquide for the bamboo units. Now the building bamboo houses keep its stability for more than 100 years.

Like fred Hornaday said, it depends on your hardiness zone/ humidity zone. I live in PNW and in this area I'd recommend water bamboo, or incense bamboos. These are very hardy for cold weather and you can grow these in marshlands since these like saturated soils.

However, now it is 2021, most doc's are from a couple of years ago.

I believe bamboo can only be sustainable if produced with strict standards. Considering that most bamboo comes from China, I wouldn't expect standards to exist. An evasive grass as bamboo can destroy plant diversity and the ecological system of these tropical and sub -tropical areas where people are already starving and depend on these local food chains. The root of the large bamboo can grow as long as a foot ball field. It does not make sense to destroy plants and valuable herbs that human and animals need to survive. The poorest people in the world live in these areas most of them have no income.

You are mostly right, but the word 'bamboo' does not work for modern use..
It rings a bell to former creative structures, like furniture in the sixties.
I once had a company in making shutters, which on them self where stronger then oakwood and kept straight as steel, but there wasn't enough interest in the environmentaly friendly 'wood', had to stop.
Working with bamboo is still a wonderful thing to do, it takes a few steps to do it well, but then one is able to create better furnitures then we are used to have right now.
Question is however, how to inform the public..
And so I think, we should use a different name..
Thanks for the presentation, it seems hard for you :-)

A lot mentioned about the tropical areas to grow bamboo but what other areas could it grow and species type. with regards to both the building and clothing industry ; such as in the milder climates such as where I am in northern Tasmania ( Australia ) .
So far, all the info I've seen via Utube ;so far; mentioned the benefits of growing bamboo with some uses shown ;but as of yet ; to see those in more detail in production / manufacturing technics plus costs to produce such products ( particularly for the building and clothing industry ) .
From what Ive seen so far in the way of very limited range of clothing both in local shops and advertising seems their more expensive to the regular wool - Cotton / plastic containing products .
Question :--- as to wether the production costs are higher to warrant the higher costs I've seen sofar or just a fashionable item for the retailers to increase their prices .!!!
As for us in Australia , like to see more done to growing / manufacturing locally and ideas for it uses by architects etc and maybe a way ,if practical, to "fix up" our climate by growing in those in our large desert areas etc .

I guess my only (minimal) concern is the invasive aspect of it i keep hearing about. Is it harmful to other plants/animals where it is not native? Can that harm be mitigated. If so I'm all for replanting certain deforested areas with bamboo but i worry about it spreading to remaining natural habitats in those areas and hurting the wildlife.

I cannot believe what I see!!!! This guy works for a Dutch company called Moso Bamboo selling bamboo decking called Bamboo extreme. I have been considering this material for one of our projects. This product is made with resins and lots of it. It is basically a plank of resin. Has nothing to do with good use of bamboo nor any kind of sustainability. Don't forget the incredible amount of energy needed for production. This is a shameless commercial for Moso. btw bamboo textile can only be made with highly toxic chemicals. Shame on you Pablo van der Lugt, it's so embarrassing.

Great speech, though it would be great to show the public the pictures of Pablo van der Lugt's house and office. Are they made of bamboo? Or plastic, glass, concrete and steel? Are the furniture in these places made of bamboo? Are his fancy clothes made of bamboo?

I love the idea BUT let's not get ahead of nature. Certain insect, animals, birds, etc., are supported by trees--trees that bears fruits and leaves to consume. Let's not get crazy here. These giant bamboo are very invasive, it's also impossible to stop once they've landed and established. Only those countries with natural controlling factors should grow bamboo. NOT many wildlife lives in a giant bamboo forest--actually none that lives there other than passing by. I like bamboo but industrializing would offset, reduced it's natural CO2 foot print. If you are going to use it, use it as it is. It is not naturally design to build unnatural office towers. How come no one is talking about the reason problem to climate change--OVER POPULATION! All that CO2 to because of the needs of exponential infestation of the human race. I have a friend who brought 12 people into the world; 4 kids married and each had 2 kids--12 people were added to the world in her life time. Stop having babies--adopt--true love is not limited to DNA!
