Absolutely it is still relevant! This thing still wipes the floor with majority sports cars or even few super cars out there. I am a Porsche fanatic and will never own something else until I get my first!
I own one of these. The loose feeling you mention could be due to worn shocks and tires. I recently upgraded to Michelin cup 2’s and they have transformed the car. It always handled like it was on rails, even before the new tires. It has four wheel steer and tons of grip, dynamically outperforming my (other car) Cayman s. The problem with the turbo is feel, not capability. Do I have buyers remorse, no. But do I think the Cayman is the more endearing car, yes. The best term I’ve heard to describe the turbo is ‘business express’. Very comfortable, but a little removed.
