#Soundtrack #Music #JohnWilliams #LondonSymphonyOrchestra
The adventure continues in this "Star Wars" sequel. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) face attack by the Imperial forces and its AT-AT walkers on the ice planet Hoth. While Han and Leia escape in the Millennium Falcon, Luke travels to Dagobah in search of Yoda. Only with the Jedi master's help will Luke survive when the dark side of the Force beckons him into the ultimate duel with Darth Vader (David Prowse).
Release date: May 21, 1980 (USA)
This sequence, the Asteroid Field, the Dagobah themes, the Carbonite Scene... Empire had some amazing moments musically. What a great score.
Not just musically I might add!
the other sw soundtracks are really great sts but this one in particular is on a much higher level than the rest
A vbad anon acount Id have to agree but Revenge of The Sith really gave this a run a run for its money score wise. Some cases i feel Revenge of the Sith had better soundtrack then any other star wars film.
I think truthfully The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars Title in existence, it has the perfect mix of action/story elements coupled together with the most amazing soundtrack for key moments of the movie and nothing really felt out of place in the movie to me.... I like A New Hope but I find the beginning slow but pays off with an epic last hour of the movie and same with Return Of The Jedi.
All I'll say is at least I have yet to fall asleep to these movies, the prequels made me fall asleep within the first hour.....
John Williams is a god of music
I can close my eyes and actually picture the entire scene along with the music.
I picture han and leia slow dancing in an ice cave in that little beginning section

"Whoever is the owner of the white landspeeder, you left your lights on. I repeat, you left your lights on."
The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. There is no stopping in the White Zone.
*LUKE:* Why does that voice sound familiar?
I love how you can here what is happening based on the music alone. John Williams is a genius.
Dak: Feeling alright, sir?
Luke: Just like you, Dak. How ‘bout you?
Dak: Right now I can take on the whole Empire myself.
Luke: I know what you mean.
10:20 - 11:20 must be one of the greatest minutes in music ever written.
VERY fun to play as well
Jedi chivalry to the rescue !
Of course they are.
Even better and stronger if you listen to the quasi desperate minutes before, from 09:36.
Luke skywalker theme of battlefront 2
You can't fully appreciate the Imperial March theme without seeing how John Willims incorporates it into other places in the soundtrack.
Good thinking 🤔 👍
Like at 1:08. Love the low-key lead up to a softer-than-usual version of The Imperial March. It's all brilliant.
0:00 - Ion Cannon
4:02 - Imperial Walkers
7:39 - Beneath the AT-AT
11:42 - Escape in the Millennium Falcon
Beneath the AT-AT is at 9:20
All these timestamps are wrong you suck
Hey, don’t blame me, guys, blame Wikipedia lol 😂 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Empire_Strikes_Back_(soundtrack)?wprov=sfti1
You forgot about the glorious and hilarious cracking of a snow speeder by an AT AT.
5:13
02:50 “Ah Jim, Robot camels”
Family Guy
“Check it out, one of ‘em’ is wearing Crocs”
So beautiful, for a battle.
This also brings back Lego Star Wars memories.
Yes, the echo base level.
AWWWWW YEAAAA
Oh... that level. I could not for the life of me figure out how to get C-3PO on the darn ledge.

@@ChupeTTe oh yeah that too
John Williams is a God of music :D
Not 'A' god, 'THE' GOD of Music.
Obviously
He will easily be up there in history with Beethoven and Chopin.
@@ReveredDead I agree.
I always remember the part from 4:04 and on, because I played Shadows of the Empire on the N64 when I was little and it gives me so much nostalgia. This battle in movie is probably my favorite scene
I agree, and a ton of the Return of the Jedi score reminds me of Jedi Academy, but in regards to Shadows that Boba Fett/Slave I fight was ridiculously difficult, probably hardest fight in the game and the bit at 8:11 that's the reused boss theme in the game always reminds me of that super difficult fight
It was a smart use of the soundtrack. Loved the game. I think the nostalgi is strong with this one.
:D
I played that game also. The cd recording is still available.
12:15 Enter Darth Vader.
You can hear the ice, the speeders, and the walkers in the instrumentation. You can hear the tow cable attaching and detaching. Brilliant.
Damn. This reminds me that I really need to go watch Empire again.
Heck, the entire original trilogy
Not even a million views, yet, this is the greatest action cue even written. This will be remembered forever in film music history.
Was anyone else completely terrified of the AT-ATs their first time seeing this movie as a little kid?
I saw this movie in the theater with my dad and he kept referring to the walkers as "those camel things". :-D
The Last Jedi will probably introduce FOHCs: First Order Heavy Camels
I wish I could've been around as a kid when this was brand new. I was born in the wrong generation, or so I feel. :-C
I was 18, and they terrified me!
Driven2Beers first time I ever saw an AT-AT was in LEGO Star Wars TCS, I was terrified
No one ever complained about the cold on Hoth. We never felt it. Even though we were blinded by blizzards, we could see the final end of the Rebellion in our blaster sights. Was it only a mirage? Perhaps. But on that day, on that planet, our blood ran hot with dreams of victory, melting the ice that stood in our way.
As the Rebels fled, the 501st gathered around a burning bunker and let out a cheer that shook the stars. The Rebellion was done, the Death Star was being rebuilt, bigger than ever. Order had finally returned to the Galaxy, in no small part due to the efforts of the fighting men of the 501st.
Probably one of the most complex and epic compositions of John Williams.
The first bit is so nostalgic to Lego Star Wars 2, the portion is rarely used in other video games.
Yeah why wasn't this in the classic battlefront 2 2005 game
3:12
I love that little Rebel Fanfare
0:00 - 0:38 AWESOME! Loved this theme in LEGO SW too.
4:39 is the part we all came for. Admit it.
Dr Hans Volter facts
Speak for yourself. I came just because I was interested in hearing the whole thing again.
I came for the part where the AT-AT falls over and explodes, but i can't find it
I can hear that AT-AT stomping toward me!
I always come for 3:44
3:45 beautiful
Hey everyone, Dak says he’s got this one!
That bit at 2:45 ..... I love it....Wish there was a bit just with that music on yt somewhere....It gives the chills before the battle xD
Studer Andrew ikr
Can't recall how many times I played as Luke Skywalker on Hoth in Battlefront 2 and beat the crap out of the Empire! Xbox memories!

Play as Pilot Luke?
Yes < >No
I usually decline because I'm on the snowspeeder so much heroes don't affect it.
Am I the only empirel boi here?
@@Shabot-db2ok I love that game it's my childhood
@@jarrodedson5441 me too
My favorite battle in all of Star Wars, even though they lose
same because of the snow XD
It is one of the best, but i prefer the Battle of Endor much more imo
Foreshadowing for the rest of the movie.
"come on golden rod, your gonna be a permanent resident." han to C3PO
It was difficult for Anthony Daniels to move quickly in that metallic suit.
"Would it help if I got out and pushed?"
"It might!"
The finest soundtrack ever made. No a single bad track in it. Many tracks are stellar. This is one of them.
12:49 memories of arriving at Darth Vaders Castle in Jedi Academy.
Yes! The acid rain of Vjun!
There isn't too much action sequence music that can compare to this. There is just so much raw power here.
john Williams cleverly used the pianos here too
2:40 Oh man, this brings back so many LEGO Star Wars memories to me...
I'm so glad this is the entire 14 minutes +, uninterrupted! This is one of the best musical set pieces of Williams' career, IMO.
11:14 Oh finally found it!
General Veers: Distance to power generators?
AT AT Driver: 1 decimal 2, 8.
General Veers: Target, maximum firepower.
8:11 shadow of the empire N64 boss battle ;)
Yeah, it makes me instantly picture the AT-ST cutscene when you open the door to the hangar.
@@henrique88t yeah brooooo!!!!!
Truly epic music, John Williams made a modern classic, film music for the ages
8:59 - 9:10 always stands out so much for me
Echo Station 3TA! - We've Spotted Imperial Walkers!
12:15 A pure god like horn-gasm. John Williams at his best.
Those are predominatly Trombones though

@@joshuakline1435 well, of course
Empire has the best music of all time! Even the small moments in the film are so beautifully crafted!
"He's no good to me dead.." -Boba Fett
The empire will compensate you if he dies
This one... you can just hear the constant battles between forces, and the ever-persistent struggle of the rebellion against the evil empire. Gotta love it.
The part at 9:20 in the soundtrack is anxiety-enducing and i love it. Always loved that bit
Trumpets at 10:51
I prefer the next rythme with the fast imperial march, it's like "Nothing can stop the Empire rebel scum!"
12:14 is just great.
11:14 - 11:40 Favorite part!
Star Wars Empire at War anyone? Awesome game, I wish sb could remake it
I'll do you one better. Shadows of the Empire :)
I'm in.
No need to remake it when you have true star wars fans making the best mods for free!
I love Empire At War, but being honest I love Republic At War too. (Mod for EAW)
@@DarksaberForce Great game, along with jedi Knight series too and rogue squadron.
The score for this lost the Oscar to "Fame"
I don't even know what Fame is. Shows how worthwhile an Oscar is when the film fades into obscurity after earning one.
The original Star Wars lost best picture to Annie Hall. Empire Strikes Back wasn't even nominated.
2:43-3:04 is the build-up.
3:05 is the Imperial trap
3:12 is lightside's answer - a fantastic musical gem. It never shows up again in any of the movies. The tiny little version of the Force theme. Fuckin' badass.
This score was so freaking epic !! love StarWars :)
I didn't watch these movies until after I was in my late teens, but I always remember where I first heard many of these parts.
@2:05
The main menu of the Star Wars Jedi Academy game. Not sure if it was due to mods or was in there by default, but the game has many pieces from the original trilogy so I'm tempted to believe it was there by default. In general though most of this song is available throughout the two 6th Generation Console and PC Jedi Knight games.
@4:01
This part of the song was played on some volcano planet in Star Wars Rogue Squadron on N64 and PC (thanks, GoG). Always scared me and made me tense. Funny that it originated on a snowy planet, but always felt more fitting to the volcano planet from that game.
@8:10
I remember this part the most from when I was a kid fighting bosses like IG-88 and Boba Fett in Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire on N64.
10:11 Luke’s theme in Classic Battlefront 2! Perfect for him
John Williams is a absolutely genius. I love this Soundtrack and the other of the Original Trilogy.
I love the ambient part in the beginning. John Williams can do that so well.
PEW PEWPEW PEW!!!.... Target! Maximum firepower!
I saw the original films at the cinema in the 70s-80s and John Williams score was brilliant through the speakers.
This is so underrated
0:41 God that ascend in the music is heavenly
5:14 My favourite part
The Empire Strikes Back is 40 years old this year !! May the 40th be with you!!
SW:Battlefront 2 (2005) Boba Fett's Theme
The hoth music sequences help me feel chilled in the summer time lol
9:14-9:36 is amazing.
3:06 the first catch of the day
Can I just get the first 39 seconds on loop?
My favorite of the Williams' Star Wars scores, as well as the best of the movies.
3.10 Standby Ion Control... Fire!
Nostalgic Lego Star Wars 2 vibes
Probably my favorite song on the soundtrack
I'm going to see a screening of the film with live orchestral score at the Royal Albert Hall on Monday - can't wait, just listening to this in anticipation :D
0:43 When you hear your mum approaching your room and you haven't cleaned it up yet
How many of us cry watching Empire, I know I do, best movie of all time
"Hey guys! You ever see that really old movie, "Empire Strikes Back"?"
Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Captain America Civil War
And at that moment I realized: It is nearly fourty years old O.o
At that moment I realized I was 15.
And at that moment I realized: Tobey Maguire is still the best Spiderman
I loved that moment. At first I thought they started playing Battle of Hoth music in the background. Then I realized that they were not.
damn time goes so fast :/
8:58 To 9:11 “The Final Climax”
I love hearing this song and looking out and seeing it snow; I feel so careless and free, like I’m on that beautiful snow scape planet.
2:45 i love how eerie it is
13:31 TA TAAAAAAAAAAAA tatatataaaaaaA TA-TA-TA-RA-RA-TAAAA TA-TA-TA-RA-TA hermosoo!!
What a great score! The great John Williams!
The Battle of Hoth (Medley) Best piece of music ever created!!
00:00 - 00:40 That part has always hits me. I don't know, it has a unique beauty. In the movie Han and Luke say goodbye and this melody plays in the background, the scene lasts very little, but it is very beautiful. They are friends saying goodbye. In fact, it is the last time they are seen in the film. very nostalgic.
imagine if han had died in this film, and that was really the last time.
2:06 i can see the direct influence of the "march of the resistance" theme
Have you noticed that:
1/ Anakin's Theme is The Imperial March chopped up, and put back together, in a different order
2/ Across The Stars is Luke's Theme in a minor key
3/ the celebration music on Naboo is The Emperor's Theme, in a major key
4/ the hyperspace jump music in ROTJ is a variation of The Throne Room?
11:00 what in the ****** is [BOOM]!
THE BEST medley in any movie ever!
I'm old school. I have the soundtrack on record and on CD. I picked up the sound track in 1980 after seeing Empire.
this brings me back good memories
3:15 Standby Ion control. Fire!
such a iconic ost, you can replay each scene in your head
A masterpiece !
ESBはもはやミュージカルの様です。その中でもこの一連のバトルシーンからアステロイドフィールドの流れが大好き!
4:02 is when the battle begins.
This is where the fun begins
3:34 The first transport is away! The first transport is away!
I still remember Lego Star Wars II and TCS, hearing this and just sitting there for only that. It was so beautiful to me. Wish I could do that for the first time again.

I love the game
I can’t even tell you how many hours I’ve listened to this on that stupid Hoth level in LEGO Star Wars

Anyone else play shadow of the empire? They pulled a lot from this movie’s score for those N64 era games
