Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Soundtrack Music By John WIlliams
#Soundtrack #Music #JohnWilliams #LondonSymphonyOrchestra
The adventure continues in this "Star Wars" sequel. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) face attack by the Imperial forces and its AT-AT walkers on the ice planet Hoth. While Han and Leia escape in the Millennium Falcon, Luke travels to Dagobah in search of Yoda. Only with the Jedi master's help will Luke survive when the dark side of the Force beckons him into the ultimate duel with Darth Vader (David Prowse).
Release date: May 21, 1980 (USA)
There is one slightly humorous aspect to this. Darth Vader lived out the dream of overprotective fathers... he put his daughter's punk boyfriend on ice.
And he didn’t even realize it.
@@sandakinpearfloater yeah true that is humorous
😂😂
Even though neither of them knew they were related.
Literally, cuz carbon FREEZE
1:40
Leia: I love you!
Han: I know...
RIP Carrie Fisher
The score is so iconic I can see and hear the movie--dialogue, effects, everything--in my head.
Same with the Secret at the end of the film, because there was nothing like it in motion picture history.
Same
4:17 I've loved that part ever since I was a kid and I still do. Totally badass.
That's Boba Fett's theme
It's boba fett theme in BF2
Always reminds me of the trailer for RotS when Palpatine is giving his speech to Anakin about learning new power.
Rescue the Princess Lego SW Original Trilogy II ds
7:34 was always my favorite
The Force is with you, young Skywalker. But you are not a Jedi yet
It's enough to send a chill down anyone's spine.
... Too easy
@@yomismo9312 *All too easy...
@@j.c.dicklegproductions9248 all too difficult******
5:12 RIP Jeremy Bulloch
Was and always will be our favorite bounty hunter
He also played an Imperial Officer who was present during Leia, Lando, and Chewy's escape. I've always found that SUPER interesting honestly.
06:04 is my favorite part. It's so beautiful and so sharp. Gives you the feeling that the hero is here to save the day which is fucking genius when you consider what happens to this hero.
Been searching for that sequence. Love it!
4:59 I love that sinister ambience soundtrack
I always liked to think of it as Boba Fett's theme even though it's not used anywhere other than this track.
That's Fett's motif
Love that part too
2:12 I think that is the coolest transition ever. The tone of this scene is genuinely terrifying. Watching Han getting frozen, not knowing if he'll survive. The main character's fear, and that badass shot of Vader as the smoke rises.
Leia: I love you.
Han: I know.
Chewbacca: [roars]
Han: T h a t, I did not know.
You do that's so sweet
People who saw this back in 1980 must have seen Darth Vader as nearly the most evil thing in the world.
Like how we see Thanos today...
And then Emperor Palpatine enters the floor!
@@theflyingbrick387 lol no
@@FrancuZz Thanos is a joke, like all those superhero movies.
@@theflyingbrick387 Thanos is a joke, like all those superhero movies.
What if he doesn't make it? He's worth a lot to me.
The empire will compensate you if he dies

Good. See to it that he finds his way in here.
Boba Fett's theme is badass, I wish they did more with him...
As you wish

Your wish has come true bro
He's worth a lot to me
Now I'm sure you wish they didn't lol
4:16 beginning of the best part

All the Cloud City Music is great.
Along with Godfather II this is the greatest sequel in film history
T2 and The dark knight?
Lucian Kugler Love those flicks. Empire is better though
Tustari A.
Spider man 2
And Terminator 2!!! If you like that sort of thing obviously.

I feel John Williams is definitely more at home when he is doing emotional themes and transitioning between different moods. 7:34 to 8:11 is so well orchestrated. Particularly at 7:48 where it transitions into a feeling of hopelessness - chills. I've said it before and I'll say it again, nobody can or ever will replace John Williams in my opinion when it comes to making a person not just watch a film but feel it through music. ESB is his finest cinematic work and I've listened to just about everything he has done. Of course, that's just my opinion, yours may be different.
I really love that part too, I think it deserved more time
Agree 100% give me chills to this day.
For me it's all about 2:00 to 2:40
John Williams=God
John Williams=god's god
Nah, ravel, mahler, debussy and bruckner they are better
1:35 - 1:47
"I love you"
"I know"
In my honest opinion, the score from 1:30 to 2:30 at least is the best thing John Williams ever wrote. Everytime I hear it I get goosebumps, my hair lifts up and my eyes get little tears in them. Fantastic!
Yes same! That part is underrated
God this track has so much going on. THIS is music.
I dont listen to anything else, call my life sad, but it's so touching
@@leia.amidala77 its not sad friend.
I came here for 6:06
That1Guy someone should realy extend that part of the score my fav part aside frim when chewy attacls the stormtrooper and han tells him to calm tfo lol
Me too, love this part!
I came for 1:56
I always cry listening to this, Star Wars could be told without dialogue, the music tells the story. Han and Leia's theme is so beautiful. Thank you John Williams, you have changed my life. I dont listen to modern music. Star Wars music from the original trilogy is enough for me.
I love you ♡
I know ♡
R.I.P Carrie Fisher, the world will never stop missing you ♡♡
10:58 to the end
This bit restores the remaining hope to full power. It's awesome.
Yoda's theme
8:30 to the end is just perfect I love the small part of Boba Fett's theme starting at 7:30 too, it's so mysterious and evil just like the character, great work by John Williams as per
Nerman yesss
This movie is a gem of cinema. Star Wars at its best
5:26 Best moment of the entire soundtrack... so dark and pessimist, it defines perfectly the tone of the movie.
Leia: "I love you."Han: "I know."
4:15 best part
Agreed.
My favorite part is 0:00 to 11:50
Seriously, all of it is my favorite.
What about 11:51? Hehe
@@patrickmonaghan9131 I was thinking more like 11:52
I could listen to it on repeat all day. The music tells the story
It doesn't ever get mentioned, but I personally love the moment between @4:52 and @5:34. It's got this creepy, foreboding quality and I love the screen wipe to the overhead shot of Luke cautiously making his way through the hallway. Just goes to show how many great moments, large and small, this masterpiece has...
Absolutely..walking down that hallway and out to his ship.
1:59 I loved it that is what I came for

"Put Captain Solo in the boot!" - Boba Fett (Geordie Star Wars)
1:29 is the best part
Agreed.
I recorded 1:29 to 4:00 the emotion is crazy. Some really good writing went into Star Wars music, especially Han and Leia's theme
This is arguably one of the BEST tracks in what I really think is JW's best work.
9:30 pure beauty, the height of Star Wars' story right here. Amidst a city in the clouds, a band of heroes desperately trying to rescue their friend from the loathsome bounty hunter While the last jedi, the last hope for the galaxy, enters the lair of the devil.
put captain solo in the cargo hold
6:07 is my favorite part. Commenting this so I can find it later.

4:17 and 8:29 the wonderful and threatening theme of Boba Fett, I hope it returns for his series
9:54 Han’s theme from Classic Battlefront 2! I love hearing the movie tracks hearing the real origins
I remember hearing 5:30 to 5:50 whenever I'd play as Rebel on Cloud City in classic battlefront.
And yeah Han's theme in classic Battlefront 2 gives me nostalgia chills.
“Your destiny lies with me Skywalker. The emperor knows it to be true.”
“No!”
1:57 You are now playing as Han Solo.
Niko let’s go bowling!
I would have loveddddd to see John and the LSO in person performing and recording this soundtrack back in 1980 omg 😩❤❤ my heart
"Yes, he's alive....and in perfect hibernating condition."
John Dykes He's all yours bounty hunter
5:00-5:35 Am I the only one that loves that bit?
IntellectualEgo no you’re definitely not. It’s some of the darkest, crunchiest Williams cluster chords mashed up with the stately and sinister “boba Fett theme.” Love that it comes up even edgier after 7:40, too. Seriously that part has some Bite to it.
1:35
Leia: I love you.
Han: I know.
When you realize that 6:04 was reused in Attack of the Clones.
Reminds me so much of traversing gall spaceport as dash rendar in shadows of the empire (gall spaceport- that hour long level that ends with fighting a difficult epic battle with boba fett- followed by boba fett in his slave 1! That game was fuckin awesome!!) ig-88 was so scary as a kid in the previous level and instead of a breather, you get this in the next level.
Yeah, Boba’s theme was used as the song for that level
What a goddamn classic.

1.) Jason Wingreen
2.) Temuera Morrison

Jason Wingreen all the way! Curse you special edition!
Temuera Morrison, I've never seen the original cut.
6:03 and the rest of that part is the best, Luke running in no matter what to try to save his friends, and all the action. Best Star Wars movie ever.
I really needed this, the soundtrack. Been feeling down lately and the music always makes feel better. I've loved this (I have the LP) from 1980 and love to listen to it. I'm moving so had to pack the LP's away but I can still listen to it thank to you all. 🙂
The whole 'escape of Boba Fett' sequence has echos of the imperial march all over it, without actually playing its theme. Just like Vader seems to be around every corner in the cloud city without appearing on the screen. Brilliant!
John Williams is a genius, no doubt! ❤❤❤❤
1:57 - 2:39 Han Solo is lowerd and then frozen, then comes out as he is freezed
Take the princess and the wookie to my ship
You said they'd be left in the city under my supervision!

Furthermore, I wish you to wear this dress and bonnet.
5:00 - 5:30 absolutely badass 👊🏽
6:34 Love the foreboding version of the Yoda theme. All Yoda's warnings of grave danger have lead to this pivotal choice that Luke must make whether to follow his friends into the dark unknown and still makes a final plea.
6:45 You must not go!
6:51 TOO LATE!!!
I actually came here for 1:34 :)
3:42 always gets me.
Leia (Lois): "I love you."
Han (Peter): "F*ck off."
1:33-1:50 = The ever-famous "I know" scene. ;)
6:06 my favorite part!
1:57 - 2:13 The best part.
7:17-8:11 is the best part. So dark, and sinister
"Bring my shuttle."
"i love you" "i know" "put captian solo in the cargo hold" "i have altered the deal prey i dont alter it any further"
To me, this is the best track in the movie, and I was delighted when the special editions came out in the late 90s...vinyl could hold only so much back in the day and despite the original vinyl edition being 2 LPs, it still did not feel complete.
5:12 my favourite characters beat comes
9:50 always loved that part
Also reminds me of the beautiful Battlefront 2 days with Han Solo
"Put captain solo inthe cargo hold"
8:30 Departure of Boba Fett - my favourite
6:35 Cloud City Trap
One thing I've never understood about this scene is that when Han Solo gets lowered into the chamber his hands are bound in front of him in handcuffs that appear to be too tough to break free from (we would have seen it otherwise, I'd have thought). Despite this, after he is risen from the chamber and is shown to be in carbon freeze his hands are now either side of him, palms up, by the side of his head and there's no trace of the handcuffs. So, can anyone please explain to me how this happened?
Late reply but I was watching the film last night, the stormtroopers undo his handcuffs right before they lower him in, it’s a blink and you’ll miss it detail with all the emotion in the scene
Wizards did it.
@@Seb94Argent Yea, as Han calms Chewie down, it shows stormtroopers taking the handcuffs off.

4:17 Perfect fitting for the Revenge of the Sith official trailer.
Oh my heart, 4:00 just MASSIVE chills, absolute doom
From 0:01 to 0:20 I loved this reprise theme so much, Luke's coming and it's happy but at the end you know something's gonna go down.
Best part is the opening
Leia: Luke! It’s a trap!
Admiral Ackbar: hey that's my line.
6:04 this part should've been in the Mandalorian when Luke enters in the hallway.
2:00 "Run Katarn!!! Hahahaha"
Shadows of the Empire for N64 brought me here. 4:17
There is a Stravinsky influence there too!
4:12 those next 2 minutes the best film music ever
6:31 To me, this theme it's like the Anakin's journey to the dark side. Transforms the force theme in something like a nightmare.

I will never understand people who don't LOVE this movie. So great on so many levels and one of the best sequels of all time. SW was very popular when it came out and a lot of movies have a crappy sequel to follow up that kind of success. Not Star Wars.
10:27 *suspenseful jingle*
*Luke realizes he failed his test*
10:28 *Darth Vader’s theme plays*
Vader: Luke, you have failed me for the first time.... Do not fail again...
