I've been doing somatics daily for a little over a month now, and I've been recovering from a terrible injury that affected my entire core, it was a hiatal hernia but it made it so that my pelvic floor and psoas and everythingin between were pinching my nerves and making me feel sick, not even really wanting people to see me. I am 31 and healthy and this injury made me want to give up. For 3 years my energy was drained, I didn't feel like myself at all, and that's not even scratching the surface. I felt like a shell of my former bubbly self. I've had plenty of physical therapy, do yoga, breath work (after I learned to "heal" the hernia), and still see a chiropractor 6-9 times a month. But since starting somatics I have seen the real progress that I have been wanting to see, it's the missing link! I am not 100% recovered and I still have bad days. But I can't deny the progress I've made in a month's time, and that I feel like I'm getting my life back. Thank you!!!!!!! I will update you later as I continue my somatics practice!

I read Martha's book in January of the year I would turn 65. I was injuring myself doing sporadic yoga and I also had chronic pain from a S-I joint injury. By the time my birthday rolled around I was proficient at the movements and, nine years later, I rarely skip a day of doing these movements. It makes a big difference. I could not have continued mobility at the pain level I was experiencing many days. I became lax in my practice a few years ago and started skipping days frequently and my body did not like this! That taught me that skipping is not an option. Somatics has put me in far greater touch with my body, which is who I am. It is grounding and it is a great teacher. Thank you, Martha, for your invaluable work. I owe you!

Hi Martha! I wanted to thank-you. You encouraged me with my desire to find neck pandiculations last year. This led to hyoid pandiculations and then to learning how to pandiculate the muscles of the hyoid sort of one at a time. It took a long time, but I can now pandiculate the stylohyoid. I can do it either sitting still, with my hands in my lap, or in most forward-fold poses like downward dog. Learning how to pandiculate the stylohyoid in particular caused a massive drop in my fibromyalgia pain. Thank-you again. I also look forward to the day that pandiculation and somatics becomes a household word.
You're very welcome! All of us at Essential Somatics are doing our best to teach as many people as possible to take these sensible tools of self-care and create more freedom of movement and self-awareness. Making this work a household word - is what we're all about!
@@EssentialSomatics Despite great effort and time, I was not able to fully remove the problem in my right stylohyoid (yet)... A great improvement though... which led to working with the soft palate elevators... and then to right-side lateral pterygoid pandiculation ... and found a huge problem at the right-side pterygoid plate. The left side plate feels ok.... This will keep me busy for a while! Thanks Again.
@@freebirdofparadise I did not discover a movement. The hyoid is included in many advanced yoga poses. IMO, You are not ready for advanced yoga. Find a qualified teacher.

You're so welcome! Essential Somatics Movement is such a wonderful foundational practice, so I'm glad you're bringing it into your class so your students can get more out of their Pilates!
I would keep a practice to a lot less than 2 hours of Somatic Movement a day. If you're commenting on this video in particular, the Fundamentals Immersion weekend course is full of movement classes, so over the course of the day we do quite a bit of learning. That's not to say that after you've learned the basic movements and understand what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how to build a practice, that any one practice session should be 2 hours in length. That's a bit of overload for your brain!
