    I’ve had IT band pain for YEARS. Literally since 2014. It has affected my running so much. Lately, even walking and hiking have hurt. This has instantly helped to release it, I can’t wait to see how walking and running go! Thank you for your explanations!

      You're so welcome! Now that you've learned to release your IT band remember that a tight IT band is indicative of an unconscious, full body pattern of tension in the center of your body (likely the Trauma Reflex). There's so much more to learn, and the more movements you learn , the more you can create an effective daily practice for yourself so you can continue to hike, walk, and run as long as you wish! It's incredible what your brain can teach you in a short amount of time!

    • @EssentialSomatics
      @EssentialSomatics  Рік тому

      It's best if you do the movements on the floor (on a comfy yoga mat or rug) purely in order to get the sensory feedback from the floor.
      That being said, if it's not comfortable to be on the floor, start on a firm bed and see how it goes.

    Hello… are there any pandiculations for eye muscles to assist vision?

    • @EssentialSomatics
      @EssentialSomatics  2 роки тому

      I think the best way of improving vision that I have come across is to do very small, gentle "differentiations" for the eyes, tongue, neck, and head. A lot of stress and trauma takes hold in these areas and the best way to address that stress is by going very gently. Feldenkrais teaches a lot of good differentiations for the eyes and we at Essential Somatics incorporate them and connect the releases to the center of the body.
      David Webber (who passed away about a year ago) created a brilliant series called "Seeing Clearly." He teaches a lot of those small differentiations in that series to lower the tension in the nervous system.

    Do you have a somatic movement for coccydynia?

    • @EssentialSomatics
      @EssentialSomatics  3 роки тому +1

      There is no one movement for coccydynia. What I recommend is looking at your condition as a muscular issue first that may be contributing to the pain. It could be habituation of the red light ("slumping") reflex, or the result of an accident, causing one side of your torso to be tighter than the other, thus affecting your coccyx.
      It's always best to work one on one with a Certified Clinical Somatic Educator either online or in person. This way you can have an expert guide you in discovering what the issue is and where it's coming from.
      I hope this helps.

    My IT pain is single sided. Do i need to do this on both sides? Thanks!

    • @EssentialSomatics
      @EssentialSomatics  2 роки тому

      Absolutely! If you've got a trauma reflex on one side it's important to address the compensation pattern of the other side. It will be slightly different. That's the nature of the trauma reflex.

    Great precise video. As is all your content. Martha, my name is Marvin. I seem to have a chronic issue with my left Serratus Anterior. It started years ago with an injury to my supraspinatus. The latest aggravation came from a 10lb medicine ball chest press. Any thoughts?

    • @EssentialSomatics
      @EssentialSomatics  6 років тому +2

      It sounds like you have sensory motor amnesia! Addressing the entire body rather than single muscles is what will get you back to lifting in a more somatic way. Here's the thing: it's never just one muscle causing your pain. You may have had an injury to the supraspinatus, but the entire nervous system immediately recruited other muscles to keep you moving - the trunk rotators, back, and front of your body. I'm going to suspect that you're a bit tighter on one side of the body than the other - what we call a Trauma Reflex. Address the full body pattern of tightness you're stuck in and the entire system will begin to release and relax. Look on our website (or at other videos on the ES channel) and learn about sensory motor amnesia and the 3 stress reflexes. Notice which ones you think you're stuck in and start learning to release the muscles of the back, front, and sides of your body so the entire ribcage and shoulder girdle can move freely again. Consider attending one of our Fundamentals Immersion courses (see the ES website for details) or work one on one with a skilled practitioner (go to the Find a Practitioner page on the ES website). Get your brain back in control of your muscles and you'll be good to go!

    • @EssentialSomatics

      This can be a very helpful pandiculation for your friend. What would be most helpful to him/her, however, is to work one on one with a Clinical Somatic Educator. Doing so could potentially prevent a second hip replacement and/or continued muscular discomfort despite the new hip.

    once you know this exercise, can you just jump to the end move? Or do you always start at the beginning?

    • @EssentialSomatics
      @EssentialSomatics  4 роки тому +4

      It all depends on the day, how you feel, and what you think you need. Somatic Education is a process. Every day is different. Once you can sense and coordinate a movement, then yes, you can do the full pattern without breaking it down - yet often it's helpful to break it down and explore more deeply.

      There is a lot Essential Somatics can help you with in regards to concussion. After being thoroughly checked out medically I suggest working one on one with a Clinical Somatic Educator (you can find one on the ES Find a Practitioner page) so you can address the overall body tension that may still be present in the center of your body. Having a good teacher is the best way to go.

    • @someone.on.the.internet
      @someone.on.the.internet 3 роки тому +1

      This works for easing the tension in the shoulder because the system of connective tissue in our body is to be understood holistically. Basically since our whole body is conncted through our facia, tightness or knots anywhere will naturally have effects on all the other places of the body, especially ones where the restriction in optimal movement is compensated for.

    • @EssentialSomatics
      @EssentialSomatics  4 роки тому +2

      I wish I could help you, but I have no idea what might be going on for you given that I don't know your history, have never seen you move and can't see how you're doing this movement. Some people move too quickly, others twist into their trauma reflex (unconsciously, of course) when they do it, while for others it's more about their daily habits and activities. When you begin to release sensory motor amnesia, the system that you are needs time to integrate.
      My suggestion is to find a skilled practitioner (go to the Find a Practitioner page on our website) with whom to work one on one. Additionally I would recommend attending a Fundamentals Immersion so you can learn more comprehensive information and have a deeper experience of the movements, all under the watchful eye of a Certifed ES Fundamentals teacher.

    • @EssentialSomatics

      Alexander, my most educated guess would be that you have a habituated Trauma Reflex (watch the video on this channel called The Three Stress Reflexes, and do it along with me). Think about what kind of accidents, injuries, surgeries, one-sided activities your brain might have responded to so that it taught the muscles of ONE side of your body to stay tighter than the other side.
      I highly recommend that you come to some of our online movement classes and start to resolve this pain. I teach classes weekly. Go to the ES website and check out the schedule. I have people from all over the world coming to class, so it doesn't matter where you live. You can get help, and IT IS POSSIBLE to live and move without pain. I know - I learned how to do it for myself, which is why I teach it.

      @@alexanderjimenez1698 Thank you so much. The thing about sensory motor amnesia is that the patterns are in our brains. All vertebrate animals respond to stress the same way: withdrawing inward (red light reflex), moving forward (green light reflex), or avoiding/compensating due to an injury (trauma reflex). The fun thing is when you learn more so you can have tools for yourself for the rest of your life.
      Be well and stay safe.
