- TopSpin 2K25 sees the TopSpin game series return for the first time in over a decade, and is set to launch on Xbox, PlayStation and PC in April. Ahead of the game's release, Mirror Gaming's Nathan Bliss travelled to Paris to get hands on time with the game, and spoke to Game Director Remi Ercolani about the new gameplay mechanics.

Ok, so glad to hear this is coming out. If I’m honest can’t say I was blown away by the gameplay or graphics.
I’ll be optimistic until the game is in my hands. Also the lack of players is a little concerning? Very small roster… I’m hoping players are added along the way? I’m still looking forward to this title because TS 4 was sweet .

I’m still buying this game but the player faces in this are a straight downgrade. Going from realistic ones to these weird cartoony animated ones is extremely low budget and hurts to look at
The appearances from what I’m seeing look good, it’s just the animation that’s making it look shoddy.

The reason i still have my PS3 console because of Top Spin 4 game.
Some are saying the graphics are dated and look like a remaster of Top Spin 4, but PC didn't even have the official version of Top Spin 3 and 4 and now it has an official version without emulation, keep calm guys, we were lucky For 2K to want to be nice to PC players this time, imagine if it had been announced just for consoles again 😅

@@krishnakumar2390 no... dont be happy for what you have, you are paying good money, they need to do better in 2024... go look back at rockstar table tennis from 2006, its absolutely embarrassing for this game that a game from nearly 20 years ago looks very very close visually and i would argue the cloth physics are better in that game, in TS2k25 the cloth physics are actually terrible, spazzing out all over the place in cutscenes (not shown in this interview but there are previews out with gameplay). They should be embarrassed.

I will definitely give it a try... but based on the gameplay videos circulating online, there is little reassurance. The game director claiming to be a tennis fan and then approving the release of such a product is paradoxical. The care and love for this sport can be recognized from the quality of the animations and the precision with which the different playing styles that distinguish each player are identified. And it doesn't require extravagant film sets for motion capture; Tennis Elbow 2013, with its latest patches, is proof of that. The playing styles are replicated perfectly without motion capture... that is love for a tennis game, and it is what true tennis fans look for in a video game.

Yeah the graphics look absolutely ass for a ps5 game. I hope that was the ps4 version they were showing😅. Loved topspin 4, really hope this doesnt dissapoint. Ive been waiting a long time for this!
Pretty sure that was the PS5 version. The graphics being so disappointing comes down to them not leaving behind last gen and having to code for the lowest common denominator. It's a shame this isn't next gen only.
@@DaHammerOfGod That's just not true look at PS4 games like Red Dead, God of War, Spiderman or other Sport games they are miles ahead graphic wise. 2K just didn't commit 100% to this game they wanna see first if it's profitable.

@@DaHammerOfGodIt is better to go cross gen because it lets more people play. For a game series coming back after over a decade, they need as many players as they can get. If this is a success then the next game will likely be next-gen only and have substantially better graphics.
Dedicated servers..as a life long top spin fan from 3,4 and tennis world tour i buy these for online online.. PLEASE have dedicated servers with low ping. Its sucks having bad lag please i beg of you all... better servers and tournament for online!
The game is not a live service game it is Topspin 4 remastered..

On the normal difficulty it didn’t look like mistimed shots from players resulted in many errors. So many mistimed shots shouldn’t result in shots that land in the court still but is that effected by difficulty levels? I’d like to see more errors on harder ones.

Good thing they have a Developer that worked on the older Top Spin games. Having the source material from 2k Czech team. Tennis World Tour was missing that feeling of Top Spin 4, even though it was a decent tennis simulation. The gameplay video showed it is similar feeling to TS 4. Really really excited for this. Will be getting the Physical Pre Order.
Ok now please update the player's grunts, especiall Alcaraz's. And personally I would love it more if the devs can bring court view mode (behind-the-player) to the matches

At this point, I feel like I’m getting access to a Top Spin game again. Nothing here screams innovation. It seems like minor tweaks and updates to the old game.
I loved TS4, so I’ll buy this. But I feel like they could have done more in terms of game modes. Maybe they’ll reveal more closer to release.

They’d he far more interest in a tennis game at the peak of the big 4 than there is now
I hope they get the courts correct, Cincy was a horrible brown court where you couldn't see the ball and Shanghai was a black court that was painful to look at in TS4. For tennis fans, authentic courts and all the big tournaments will be crucial. (Bercy is not carpet anymore and wasn't in 2011!)
Graphics is from old game it should be TopSpin 2K15 not 25. This looks like fast money grab by releasing just an update of old game with minimal effort. It is not what we deserve, add at least top 50 ATP players. For asking price you should have ATP and WTA license
So can you turn off the shot meter? I don’t need the visual assistance.
Now it’s meter tennis. You’re not watching the distance, bounce, etc to get the swing timing correct, you’re playing METER tennis watching the meter trying to hit a green spot every single time instead of watching your player. I hate that. PLEASE let us turn off the meters.

@@TheSupinesmokey People keep saying that but I have yet to see one video clip without it so now I’m worried lol. I guess you can just try and ignore the meter but still.... I’ll be getting the game regardless to kick my brothers ass 😁
There's still some things to improve, for example the clothes and the hair moving way too much when the players are just walking or standing up. I mean, just look at McEnroes hair wobble like jello when he's moving his head just a little. And the ball hitting sounds don't sound right either, and slice shots sound like flat shots.
I'll be happy if Rybakina is in it, but also why are you wasting slots on legends and retired players 🤬 also we expect more current players, who are we going to win titles against, the same 2 or 3 players?
Hopefully we can get challenging calls patched in, or in the next game. Not a dealbreaker but will be nice eventually! And I’m just glad we’re getting anything similar to TS4.
Probably won’t happen considering challenges are going to stop happening in 2025 in tennis as they are moving to computer calls only.
Looking forward to the game. Worked a lot on the crowd, looks exactly the same as TS4.

How to play this game online? On which platform(ps4,ps5) it will work?
As long as the play mechanics are similar to topspin 4, that's enough for me. All the others that have come after, their mechanics were terrible. Also 4 still looked the best in tersm of the appearance of the player.

Im so happy new top spin out so soon ! didnt think it would come back .. However presentation not too great but Roster is my biggest disappointment, 24 confirmed pros ? and like half of that is legengs? i'd much rather have more current pros than legends if that means we only get like 12 current pros .. Well im sure im gonna enjoy the game anyways, best tennis game for me

You need to fix the standard swat forehand , it looks un professional, you adapted it in topspin 3 and 4 ..You also need s follow player 1 cam to the net , for serve and volley players ..

The players lack any kind of preparation... not only in terms of their serve, but there is also a lack of attention to what is called the "flow" of the game, which refers to the movements leading up to the impact that are executed with extreme precision and smoothness. The "unit turn" is done poorly and lacks timing. Showing these images and claiming to be a tennis fan is PARADOXICAL.

No angled or huge slice drop shots or lobs? In every Gameplay footage ive seen.. Lack of skill from players or game physic mechanics? 🤔 🎾
agreed. very concerned about the lack of shot variety and ball spin from these gameplay clips. The ground strokes look painfully slow and repetitive, and the winners don't appear to be exceptional shots, just the AI deciding the rally shouldn't carry on any longer
If it follows topspin 4 there was a control shot button that allowed you to hit short angles.
@@Chris-xc4rv I vaguely remember that from TS4, yeah. It worked pretty well. I'm still excited for the new game and I *want* it to be great...I have to say I'm pretty underwhelmed by this gameplay footage so far though

Agreed. It does look like a lot of carryover from TS4 to be fair. Maybe a surprising amount, considering that was 2011 (?)
maybe I'm expecting way too much but I'm a pretty big tennis fan and played competitively growing up-- IMHO this gameplay just looks like it has no "oomph". I know it still has to be fun and playable-- it's a video game after all-- but this makes top pros appear to play more like talented teenage players

Hitting harder than ever? This is the same powderpuff nonsense the Tennis World Tour games had going on. All the footage shows serves being rolled in and then followed by a 25 shot rally because the ball is moving so slow.
This definitely concerns me. There's no sense of speed whatsoever on the groundstrokes. I don't know if it's just not in the game or it's a lack of skill by the player operating the sticks.

i had the same exact reaction. I love sports sims and it really frustrates me when the tempo of the game doesn't mimic the real thing...the ground strokes in the gameplay footage seem to be lacking pace and proper ball physics...it looks VERY slow and clumsy for professional tennis and the ground strokes don't seem to have much pace or spin at all

Please fix Steffi Graf, forehand animation is really bad and not her signature movement.
The Face is also not authentic. It’s the first time that she’s in a video game and it should be made better. Also her clothes that’s she’s wearing is far away what she’s wearing at her active time. And she’s moaning in top spin 5. she never was moaning. 😢

Matchmaking is broken. we need a mmr and tier system for world tour mode. make players earn their way to higher tiers by meeting certain point thresholds (e.g. challengers, 500s, masters, grand slams) if we win =earn points, lose = deduct points and match players within the same tier or no more than 1 tier above....and nerf the serve attribute, we should not be hitting 125mph serves with 30 serve rating..

Except for Serena and Federer the mechanics are not different except for the gauge. The player movements and the hitting is a complete replica of TopSpin 2K25. With that being said the main issue is not even the repeated mechanics...it's the abysmal roster. I said I wouldn't play this game without Serena and I have been served!! But man 25 players....in 2024. That's tragic. Get lower ranked players FFS.

Oof. Look at all the clipping and texture warping going on with Iga's and Coco's clothes beginning at 7:20. That's something you'd see in a 10 dollar fan game, not a professional production.

Gameplay seems to be better as they basically just recoded the game from TS4. So it can literally only be better. The ball physics are significantly better from what I’ve seen as well as animations for some of the players

2024 and the game is behind TopSpin 4. Forced online to play game modes, stupid micro transactions, 2K community to create, share, and download players to maje up for low licensing, no venue creator, not next gen graphics... career mode being online only is absolutely retarded.
At least the gameplay is good, but atill not worth $50.

This looks like a bag of shit honestly. surprising it looks so bad, hangar 13 being the devs showed some skill with player models in mafia 3, this is a colossal mess visually, i thought back to a game like rockstar's table tennis from 2006 and then ive just gone to watch a video on it as a refresher and i swear that games characters look better and the cloth physics are outrageously better looking.... 2006!!!!! the clothing in TS2k25 is spazzing all over the place. animations are wrong, the screaming and grunting is all wrong... a real mess, its going to get absolutely panned in reviews looking at this and they dont deserve the money and attention, they should do themselves a favor and delay this absolute joke.

He is talking about details and that the team spent alot of time to make it look good, the players, the crowd and so on. The interviewer should have told him that the game looks atleast 20 years old. The game are just slightly better looking than top spin 4, that should tell you how embarrassing it is. This suppose to be next gen game and they could have used the latest unreal engine but nah, they just wanna give us this crap. They failed. And before yall jump on me, It's not only gameplay that matters to me, I wanna feel a game by it's look at how authentic a game looks graphic wise.

AGAIN to repeat, as usual, as with TS4, straight line shots always unless its a serve. All the simpletons out there who aslo want Golf games where the ball always travels 100% straight witn no draw or fade, or football games where shots and crosses never bend in flight, will feel at home 2K's lazy ball physics yet again.. This smug tozzer in this interview knows its shit too. TS 2K25 from all the vids so far, has this exact same TS4 ball physics...........i.e. there are none.
Player movement,reactions more fluent on TP4 Than this ps3 graphics, should be up there with nba2k24 graphics way more realistic,looks like a rehash of TS4
