Excellent video . . . I remember doing the first five of these in 1963 when I was 16 but starting with Beinn Ghlas. Happily, I'm still climbing in British Columbia and Scotland when I can get over , , , I now live in Vancouver. I've climbed three mountains in my spiritual home of Sutherland (where my dad was born) and Wester Ross so far this year and am getting back for two more in October.
Thanks Roger - this must bring back some memories then 😁 that must be great, bet there is some fantastic walking to be done in Vancouver! The north west is stunning too - which two are you doing in October? Cheers, James
Thanks James. The trouble with hills her in Vancouver is that they’re all tree covered up to 4,000 ft (and more), the bugs AND the bears! In October, I’m hoping to climb Ben More Coigach which I last climbed in 1977 and a a neglected outlier of Ben More Assynt . . . the 2,824 ft Beinn na Fhurain. I was on Quinag, Cul Beag and Ben Hope in April . . . with my daughter (who lives in Ontario) which made the days even more special. Thanks James! Keep the great videos coming . . . they keep the Highlands alive for me while I’m away!
Wow! A BIG round of hills. Bet you were glad to see your van after that epic day. Almost half way but a lot of backpacking and Cuillin to do - lucky you; treats in store! Thanks for uploading, James.🏴⛰👍
I was very glad to see the van at the end 😂 still a great day - Yes I feel like things are getting slightly trickier - adds to the excitement 😁🏔 Thanks for watching, Cheers, James
Hi James, did these just last week but did them the normal.way from the reservoir finishing at the Ben Lawers Hotel. I did it on my own and managed to get a lift back to my van with some other walkers. It's quite a sense of satisfaction completing them in 1 go.
Great effort Andy, like you say - a great sense of achievement at the end 😁 its a nearly 3 hour drive for me so better to save milage with the price of fuel these days 😂 Thanks for watching, Cheers, James
Top mountain trip. Huge respect. I did them back in the mid 1980’s, but I did the main 5 from the Ben Lawers visitor centre and went clock wise, finishing at Lawers, then hitchhiking back to retrieve my car. I remember the descent down An Stuc being very steep! I grabbed the 2 western Munros a few years later. Thanks for sharing.
I did this without a bike and a long walk in - however when we dropped off the last Munro to the road a kind gent gave us a lift back to the car park saving a good couple of hours of tarmac bashing - great video!
That's a serious day's hiking, well done! I remember picking the western ones off one by one with my dad when I was young. Thanks for taking us with you, great video as always
Did these in 3 days🤣🤣 the first 3 are a big day on their own, and quite enjoable. Ben Lawers and Ben Ghlass are great for mountain biking - on a quiet day! The last 2 are a pain in the arse, only about 10 k, but it's one of the worst 10 ks you'll ever do! Bog 90% of the way around, and I had about 30 metre visibility above 700 metres. Great finding your older vids, as I'm making my own way through these humps!
Thanks Rob, might start adding them in more.. easier to explain where I am 😂 its a great day out - you should get better weather then too 😁 Cheers, James
I walked the been lawers horse show about 20 years ago. One of my best memories of Munro bagging. Just because of the Cambridge uni group on top leaving their lunch bags open and a walker's dog helping himself to Crispen's lunch. The horse show is quite a big day from Camusbhracken (spelling).
@@ScottishMunroJourney yes and at the end of glen Lyon fortingsall quite a place. I love the yew tree there and how there isn't much left, but it's older than the great pyramids!

You seemed to have excellent weather and I was so chuffed when I saw it cleared for you. Excellent stuff as always and I now can't wait to see a weather window to hit these SEVEN!
Thanks mate, its a long but fantastic day.. worst part was the cycle at the end, but if you had 2 cars it would be much better 😁 Enjoy when you come to do it.. great way to boost the numbers!! Cheers, James
Great place for a camp James. Noticed you said you’ve still to do Meall Nan Tarmachan. I did it as my first Munro and since then I’ve been up it 7 times. Still to do the ridge there but it’s great for camping. If you’re three hours away from the Killin Munro’s then I’d definitely camp some of them and make a long weekend of it bagging different areas. The next time you’re down there please have a go at Ben Oss and Beinn Dubhchraig. I found them challenging but it would be good to see how you get on. I must say the view over to Ben Lui from Ben Oss is fantastic👍 Completely agree with you about the fuel prices. I’ve started missing weekends because of it now.
Thanks Gaz, they are great hills.. looking forward to Meall nan tarmachan.. saving it for the shorter light days 😁 also got my eye on the Ben Oss/Lui group so you should see that soon! Hope you have been enjoying the summer weather.. fuel seems to be coming down a little bit so im making the most of it 😂 Cheers, James
Hi James, I remember doing the 7 anticlockwise in the winter of 2004.... It's great linking the big numbers on the Munros... It's another story trying to do that on the Corbetts ATP.
Must be a great outing in Winter - apart from An Stuc 😂 good feeling at the end of the day, I am saving the corbetts for after my Munros - for that reason 😂 Cheers, James
An epic walk! I'm surprised you were able to cycle after all that. It took me three trips to climb those hills, every one of them memorable. Ben Lawers and Glas were some of the first Munros I climbed, when I was very unfit due to an underactive thyroid. I found them exhausting! I climbed Meall Greig, Garbh and An Stuc when I was much fitter and it was a fantastic adventure, a 9 out of 10, with a paddle in Lochan nan Cat. The other two were done on a lovely winter day, with magical views, no midges and the bogs were all iced up. Also a 9 out of 10. What a wonderful area.
Its a great area Natalie 😁 splitting them up is probably better, as you see the different angles & views.. I will no doubt be back to explore them 😁 Cheers, James
Well done on a big day, was in the area in June. The half way point of the munros may not be as it seems. Chances are, like the rest of us you will have done the munros which are easy to get to. Leaving long trips to bag the remaining hills, so they actually get harder. Many years ago we started from the north working south to get the long distant hills out of the way, as we were not getting any younger and the price of fuel, a big factor now.
Thanks Rich - 100% Correct, my next 141 seem considerably more difficult 😂 I have left a fair few easy ones for winter, but it will be a challenge. Cheers, James
Sorry, I don’t know the names of places well. Is it easy to find the place where I can drop the bike? And is it easy to find the car park? I plan on going tomorrow. Your vides is brilliant, thanks!
did Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas in the early seventies with my school hillwalking club and at the top of Ben Lawers one of the teachers with us remarked that if that was Lochan nan Kat then the smaller part must be Lochan nan Kitten
James, small request would you have saved track for this trek? will be in Scotland next week in Killin and would love to try your route. Would greatly appreciate as Walkinhighlands dont have it ;) and best is t o follow tested track.
I don’t actually have a route for this, I just made it up from Glen Lyon - I hear there is parking issues in that area now so may be easier from Ben Lawers side.. enjoy, its a great area 😁
Yes, James, I really did enjoy your video. Remember liquids on a long day as well as good food and something like Kendal Mint Cake or Gells for an energy boost.
Terrific 91/2 hrs hill walking. Really wish I had that stamina also. I was noticing your boots seemed rigid sole and mid-weight - as your legs tired I wondered if you regretted not risking a lighter more flexible suede pair for the day? I also appreciated all of the generous filming that will help others contemplating this route. Congratulations.👍
Yeah the boots were a bit heavy by the end of the day - I have trail running shoes but I heard it was pretty bog at the start & finish so went for the heavier option.. might invest in a mid-weight boot 😁 Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney understood - I have been on a bit of journey towards lighter boots over the last yr. I just used B2 or B3 all yr round as that is what we do. Thinking questioning started when I was watching all of these USA boot buying utube videos and the American rep would say 'you know extra kilo on you feet is equivalent to 10 on your back'. Then another another rep broke through with 'you can probably get away with something lighter than your using'. So Ive gone from 960g each Gamonte boot to lighter and budget boots: first mountain warehouse latitude 740g to mountain warehouse field extreme wide 530g per boot (admittedly these are suede so really dry weather only). And the cost has fallen from £200 pair to £60 then to £63. Its only few summer walks but the mountain warehouse boots seem to be holding up fine so far. So yes I would sapport your thinking on risking a mid-weight boot option. Thx for vid!!
