My husband purchased this weapon without my knowing. Glad he bought it. Goes right along with my Sig 45 cal. Both great guns, but the 9mm seams to rise and fall on it's own putting you right back on target. Now we swap when we go outside to our private range! Thanks Sig Sauer for two great handguns!

Sir, the reason why the US went to the Beretta 92F is to keep our NATO Bases in Italy. Pentagon politics! In all actuality, the Sig P226 Beat out the 92F! After 5,000 rounds, the 92F started to show stress fractures in the barrel. Also not the most accurate weapon from my experience in the Marines under President Reagan. I personally still have my 1986 P226 that I carried as a Grunt... Another Note is that CPO Laskey of ST9 was a big influence on the SEALS going to Sig Sauer P226. Note: Not all SEALS are fans of the Glock 19 nor do they deploy with them.

When Aberdeen Proving Ground was testing all available handgun sight combinations for the U.S. Border Patrol I had the occasion of sitting out a thunder storm with the lead engineer at Aberdeen. I asked him about the Beretta selection in regards to the rumor you mentioned. At that question he became somewhat angry and proceeded to tell me that he hated that rumor and how many times he had to rerun the military pistol tests, and how each time the Beretta won. He explained that they pulled 4 random samples of each lot they received from Beretta to insure 10,000 round reliability. They ran one of the last four until it broke. It made it to just under 40,000 rounds!

It takes some practice to get used to the Beretta92FS sights & last time I checked it was SigSauer pistols that have a very short service life.

3:27 shows a shooter shooting my favorite Sig Sauer, the P229R in Legion trim. What a wonderful gun to shoot and conceal, if you are stout enough. It's a little brick of firepower I fell in love with when I first saw one in 1993. Shoots as smooth as butter. Notice that you can see his support-side thumb dangling out there doing nothing to help support the gun and to help transfer the kinetic energy generated upon recoil laterally along the wrist and forearm to the elbows. Without positive support-side thumb pressure (Kickstand Technique) and without a support-side thumb that's parallel to the support-side forearm, the muzzle wants to rise, with the center-of-gravity and center-of-form doing weird things to try to overcome one another. Muzzle down shooting is easy if you apply proper technique to accommodate the kinetic energy transfer effect. Stay safe and remember that only perfect practice makes perfect. Anything short of that is simply reinforcing bad habits.

In my own opinion i would chose my 226's even over my 1911s, just some very very precise spot on shooting guns right outta the boxes. Everyone stay safe carry everyday and God Bless!

Great stuff. I just purchased the Sig P226 Legion SAO a few months ago and all I can say is shooting it is a breathtakingly fun 🤩 experience. I love it.
Yesterday, I purchased and shot the M11a1/P229 and I’m loving it too. Still it DA/SA with a decocker unlike the P226. Trigger pull which you know is 10/4 and very smooth. Nevertheless, it doesn’t quite match the short reset trigger on the P226. Nevertheless, I purchased it because although I love shooting the P226 the M11/P229 is smaller and I feel much more easily carried and concealed. Anyway, great stuff most of which I had no clue.

My former US gov’t. Issue P226 Navy / Mk 25 is the best pistol I own, and I shoot it better than any of my others. I Consistently hit my 8” steel plate at 50 yards with my 226. Can occasionally hit that plate at that distance with some of my others, but nothing like the accuracy of my 226. Excellent piece of kit.

Worked for DOD as a firearms instructor for several years training new shooters on the Beretta M9. Excellent weapon and easy transition for new shooters to qualify without difficulty. Major upgrade with the M9A3 that I just purchased. The military really goofed on selecting the Sig in lieu of the M9A3.

The stamped-slide West German 226's are not as dense as the milled-slide versions. The stamped versions have a more balanced feel, especially on the draw. With the newer 18-round mags, the center of gravity is even lower in the hand.
The milled-slides feel more top-heavy, especially from a low-ready to a firing position. Sigs make great pistols, I just prefer my West German one. Bought it used 18 years ago.

Norinco of China bought SIG USA’s pre 1982 tooling and still use it. They make the NP22 a P226r clone in 9mm. They also make other NP clones in different calibres. They designed there own rail on the front dust covers, was not on the original pre 82 models. They skip a lot of finish machining and the inside looks awful, but it’s a SIG design and goes bang every time! For $400 Canadian I can’t complain. It will do for now…😂

Interesting info and considering I have a Browning Hi-Power I have noticed the resemblance. For a prayer request I have been out of work for just over a year and a half. I had just this week got a job offer for a job however upon taking the UA and having a valid prescription for Hydrocodone they will not hire me or anyone on prescription meds, so one a heads up as I'm seeing this more and more as a result of the new laws being turned out from the DEA, which has no authority to do so. Next I've decided to get off the stuff as it's no longer acceptable for being in the machinist trade or around moving equipment. And third I need prayers for favor, healing and pain to go away in Jesus name.

The Sig-Sauer P-220 came out first in 1977. Imported to the United States, marked as Browning BDA-Browning Double Action, with a European style hell-magazine release. The 226 first appeared in 1981. It's just an enlarged version of the 220. But with a wider grip, plus 15-rounds of 9mm. Instead of 7-round of .45 auto. Or 9 rounds of .38 Super. The XM-9 trials of 1984? Oh well, that's another story and very long and controversial after all these years.

I like my P226, but my CZ-75 SP-01 Tactical is more accurate and handles better for almost HALF the price. They are both 100% reliable.

When u mentioned the trials, where the Beretta came out on top, u said cost and endurance. I know cost was a big issue, but can u please expand on ENDURANCE. Great Vidio. Stay safe.

During testing trials Sig had 2 cracked frames and broken recoil springs between 6500-7000 rounds, Beretta had no issues. Government chose Beretta over Sig. Many Military Special Forces still chose to go with Sigs as service weapons

Isn't it true that all P226's are now made in the USA, and that they no longer export any made from Germany into the USA? Also, loved your which CCW in Church video. It made me feel better about doing it!

What about the location they are made. That also changed during the course of this pistols career. Any thoughts on how that may have effected this weapons performance?

Plus the P226 is a scaled down P220. As I have come to understand it for the M9 trials Sig Sauer took their highly successful P220 and scaled it down for a more suitable size befitting a 9mm chambering and reworked the grip to accept a double stack mag. This information has been relayed to me many times over the past few years. Is it factual or plausible I don't know.

China now even have an export version of the P226 copy called the NP22 😂 I heard Canadian folks are buying NP22 mags for their 226 cuz it's cheaper.

    • @r1pbuck
      @r1pbuck 5 років тому

This is true. The Chinese gun isn't as well finished as the original, and the triggers tend to be heavier and rougher, but they are _very_ cheap...generally under US$300. With a bit of work, they are just as functional as a genuine Sig. The magazines are also about as good as original Sig mags, at half the price.
