Very interesting interview -- hitting point on the change from working to retirement. Although HIS situation is ever so slightly different. :-) "Are you losing muscle?" and many more marvels in this interview. "I play tennis." REMEMBER, the guy is 6'7" and married to a freaking lingerie model.
Dont disregard the danger of boredom sending people on a self destructive streak. Especially when you probably have a lot of money in the bank. That and people get used to a certain lifestyle with a few million coming in every year then that stops instantly and its hard to change the spending habits.

Apart from the fact you are sitting in a nicer chair there probably isn't that much difference between the daily routine of some retired footballers and some people on the dole.
Difference is that they have to find a substitute for the " high" of playing the game they love in front of a multitude of adoring crowds on a regular basis...
@@Isleofskye You dont necessarily HAVE to find a substitute. Life changes and you adapt. That change is much easier if you have financial security. But I agree that a lot of these footballers probably have had their early education cut short because they knew they were going to make it as footballers. But also remember footballers have A LOT of free time during their careers to prepare for retirement. Some do dergrees during their football careers because of the amount of free time they have. Some just don't prepare for it at all even though they could and have all the means available to prepare.
Some salient points but you can not always replace the adrenalne rush. I was a Bookmaker at Racetracks for over 20 wonderful years and every meeting and work day was different and sometimes I would be standing up ( along with the other Bookies ) with hundreds of people/punters in front of us with all the Business and atmosphere and banter and to suddenly stop doing that and returning to a quiet Suburban street is difficult with no compensatory adrenaline " fix" and my situation pales in comparison with famous Sportsmen and Women and Stars. Suddenly you are out of the loop and to some extent invisible and I am 65 not 38..lol

But I agree the rush and adulation is on a very high level and there probably is a lack of education and preparation for them. But as I said before it is one industry where they have a lot of time, tools and means to prepare for it. It can be very sudden for people in other industries. In Football you have the time available to actually even start whatever it is you want to do after you retire before you even retire from football. SO while the rush probably will never be replicated I would ask have they put in place something to occupy their time when they retire... chances are they havent put in that thought and were just going with the flow of being a footballer with the cycle of training and games, freetime and money. They have a governing body which is super well funded so they should all be aware, maybe they dont educate them enough.

Just in case u see this Peter, the fish probably died because u didn’t treat the water. Before getting fish it is vital to remove all the chemicals found in tap water and let it go through a nitrogen cycle. This can take around a month of just water before getting the fish
Pet stores really need to do a better job in telling people how much prep and work a fish is. My brother got a goldfish in a tiny bowl and I couldn't convince him that one goldfish needs like a 20 gallon tank

I played for London and went to The USA West Coast in 1979 and beat 2 USA "Olympians" in their own back yard and got 45 Trophies but after retiring I was promised a work redundancy in my Nationalised Industry ( those were the days ) if I came out to keep my first Club up and I lost all 3 games to 3 Chinese youngsters who metaphorically, patted me on the head and told me what a close game I had given them when I knew 5 years earlier I would have easily beat all of them so like a player dropping down Divisions it would be frustrating at 38....ALSO in football " Legends" become a target especially in lower leagues....:)

For the same reason times 1,000 that I stopped playing Table Tennis. I played for London and went to The USA West Coast in 1979 and beat 2 USA "Olympians" in their own back yard and got 45 Trophies but after retiring I was promised a work redundancy in my Nationalised Industry ( those were the days ) if I came out to keep my first Club up and I lost all 3 games to 3 Chinese youngsters who metaphorically, patted me on the head and told me what a close game I had given them when I knew 5 years earlier I would have easily beat all of them so like a player dropping down Divisions it would be frustrating at 38....ALSO in football " Legends" become a target especially in lower leagues....:)
