Tell you what, I use mild shampoos, only a dab of conditioner, a little bit of gel and let my hair dry naturally whenever possible. I ditched all my hot tools except for a diffuser for days when I need to heat dry my hair. Also, I ditched the dye and embraced the gray. Now my hair is shiny and healthy and there are no more split-ends. On days the curls go mad I like to pin them into updos. Sometimes I miss the sleek look of a blowout, but generally, I am a lot happier with my natural hair.

Finally. Someone talking about gray curly hair from a place of professional and personal experience. Paired with research? I’m in hair heaven.

I am just starting to take care of my hair (and, me!). Learning so much. I could watch this all day. My hair has always dried straight on top, wavy underneath. I never did the plop or hold products, and usually run my fingers through with some oil while it dries to tame frizz. But, after the shower, there are rope-y waves, like yours. I would love to have natural curls like yours, maybe I can?

You have wavy hair maybe a different pattern than mine but it’s there. Straight on top is a very common issue for wavies, especially if your hair is silky feeling. Keep trying and I bet you have wonderful silver spirals. ❤️

I also have wavy silver hair. Straight on top. It’s long though damaged from highlights. I’m going naturale.

Notes are so important, especially when starting out but I continue to do it. I really like using the Microsoft One Note app (it’s free). It allows me to easily combine text, photos, links, whatever, to document each wash day.

Thanks for sharing! That’s a great tip. I also use the notes on a photo in my iPad. I’ll take a photo of my results that day and then write the products I used and so forth in the info section.

I tried the Curly Girl method for a while, it was okay. I don't any more. 🥰

Obviously, I completely get it. I think clean products are obviously very helpful, but hyper-focusing on a stack of rules that your hair has other things to say about is a futile effort.

I tried CGM but quickly found out that I need sulfates or else my hair gets weighed down. Honestly, I'm surprised that method works at all considering all the silly rules. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Some of the rules don’t really make sense to me anymore the more I learn about ingredients and what they do well blended into a great formula. And … it’s your hair … you gotta do what feels best for you.
