There is no more Cloud Station (= Synology Drive) with rt6600ax which was very useful from previous model rt2200ac. No reviewers mentioned about it.
Another amazing video. You are very good in educating us. Congratulations !!!
Thanks!
That router is bigger then your Laptop :P what a beast, good video sir !
Thanks!
Can you run surveillance station with only two Synology cameras off the router and DAS - without having to get a NAS or NVR?
Awesome Will !!
What I would like to see is if you plug a 2.5GB NAS on that 2.5GB port on the Router as a LAN port, we can have speeds above 1 GB over wifi to the NAS.
Already did that here: ua-cam.com/video/9uCX5c-Zh-4/v-deo.html with a 2.5 gbe uplink to my network (answer was no)
@@SpaceRexWill Ok many thanks, this hardware is not for me. I want an AP with WIFI6E with a 2.5GB port connected to a 2.5GB Switch connected to a 2.5GB NAS and achieve speeds over WIFI connect to my computer with NEW PCIe WIFI6E card at 160Mhz band over 1GB or in another words faster than wire speeds transfer.
You will need WiFi 6E and to be in the same room to be Able to beat 1 GbE
@@SpaceRexWill yes that is fine, in spite I m getting two GWN7664 or the new Unifi ap because is the only one with a 2.5GB port. The Grandstream is cheaper and has 1GB and 2.5GB ports that can be aggregated.
With 2 AP WIFI6E spread over the apartment should have good coverage.
Nice! FYI I am not sure its possible to aggregate 2 ports of mixed speeds. I would be surprised if you could aggregate a 1 and a 2.5 to get a 3.5. What would be awesome would be for 2 different VLANS
If you have a mesh with this router, can you add another hard drive to the mesh router for 2 hard drives in total?
Question: what is the best way to create a mesh with this router ( I await a video) What an abnormal product from them.... BTW...Wow Really Great experiment.... I have learned so much from you ...
Glad you like the channel!
So to create a mesh you would just get a second unit (by the way if you are not using this as a second unit you will need to wait for 1.3 update for the other 2 routers Synology sells) and hook it up via ethernet (ideal) or wifi to this unit. From there you just click add AP in SRM and it just kinda works!
Could a single WD Red 10TB drive in a USB 3.1 enclosure be attached to the RT6600AX's USB port? I realize it would be much slower access times than it would be with an SSD but sometimes you just need to use what you have and I can't see letting a 10TB drive go to waste. Also, could a 2.5GbE switch be attached to LAN Port 1? I just received my RT6600AX this past Sunday so I haven't gotten around to setting it up yet.
Great video!
Thanks!
Hi. First of all let me thank you for getting me out of numerous problems. I noted your dissapointment that the router only has one usb connection. I was wondering if a usb hub could be connected as i had a camera connected to my nighthawk router, and would like to connect this and a external drive to use the nas functionality. Id be interested to know your views. Thanks again
off-topic: Full disk encryption for Synology in the future? encrypting on a per-shared folder basis is so annoying.
I honestly am not sure if it is. I think there may be an issue in the way that they are using BTRFS that makes full disk encryption not work. It would be nice though!
Hello! Is it possible to sync files from the RT6600ax router directly with DS218 Synology Nas
through the Internet without PC or MAC? Using the same quickconnect.to login maybe...
Hmmm I don’t know
Wonder how it would go with a Raspberry Pi multi SSD NAS instead of a single USB drive 🧐
In previous testing a raspberry pi samba server (with a fast SSD) could not fully saturate a 1 GbE connection so this is faster
Without Raid not wort it
Please, I'm in trouble now. I don't think you're going to believe me but I literally have over 100k photos and when I back up with synology photos it can take years. Is there a solution, for example, using a wireless or something else please?
Just leave your phone connected on the same network overnight with the app open
@SpaceRex I did this step as I explained in the previous video, but when I left him for a whole day, he made a copy of only 500 photos out of 100k, so it will take a very long time, is there no other way?
Are they on like iCloud Drive? That might be the reason why. Every image has to be first download to your phone, then to the NAS from your phone
why so many antennas ?
There is a real reason! Called beam steering. I talk about it in my initial review
@@SpaceRexWill ok I will check it out, thanks
@@SpaceRexWill No.. It's wired as 4x4 + 2x2. 4 antennas are dedicated to the main 5G radio (4x4), the other 2 are dedicated to the SoC portion which has a 2.4g and 5G radio... 2x2 + 2x2.
Beam foaming/steering is a standard feature supported on any broadcom/qualcomm router released in the past 7+ years.
