    Thank you testing out the SRM 1.3 on RT6600ax. With the general availability of SRM 1.3, I plan on updating my RT2600ac and MR2200ac mesh network. I would love to see a UA-cam about the best way to set up VLANs for the guest network, IoT network (smart house type connections that rely on PSK) and an internal VLAN with wifi EAP using DSM Radius server and hard wired Ethernet connections. This would entail using the firewall rules and bridge to connect between the VLANs (especially for anything on the internal network that needs to manage the IoT devices, etc), port forwarding, etc. Just an idea. Thanks!

    As a long time user of the 2600ac, I had such high hopes for this router. I live in an AT&T fiber area and we're up to 5Gb on XGS-PON. I was really hoping this would have at least two 5Gb ports...

      As far as I know, you can use the USB port to get 5 Gigabit LAN over it.

      So even if it did have the ports, actually routing over 2 GbE is really hard to do. The UDM Pro claims to be able to do it (threat detection turned off) so I would either get that or build a PF Sense box

    Can we attach the WAN port of an ASUS wireless router to one of the ethernet on the RT6600ax, in order to isolate a group of devices (e.g., 50 home wifi lights) to their own router?

  • @Loady420

    I have my RT6600 now. I have made 2 wifi networks. My house net then I made security for the cameras and other devices related to it. My question is by making 2 WiFi networks am I splitting the load of the channels or is it just making an imaginary network in the sense its just sharing the resources? Also I have the 2600AC router in the back of the house with some cameras connecting to that as AP for the 6600AX. Does adding that security channel as a wifi free up resources? Does having the 2600AC as a AP free up wifi resources for the 6600AX? 2600AC WiFi is house only. 6600AX is WiFI
    They way I think makes it hard to explain what I mean on paper.

    Something seems off with it mate. I’ve got a Virgin Hub 3 (basic ISP router) and can get 550meg at least stood next to it. May we see how the WiFi channel and width were configured? I’d be pulling the settings page apart with numbers like that as they should be double at least in close proximity. The other thing could be that, if the signal was set to high as you mention in the video and you were stood next to it, that can be detrimental. Maybe try on medium or something and stood next to it if you haven’t already.
    Excited for your review of the Ubiquiti UDR, which is currently my pick over this if they can’t sort the local WiFi speeds.

    Since you haven’t mentioned it I assume that none of the ports on the back of this router support POE that would be very important to consider if you if like myself you need wireless access points since if you’re not using a POE port you’re gonna have to buy injectors to be able to add the power on the network line additionally I think if you connect it up a unify six long range wireless access point he would probably find better performance than what you’re getting out of the router that you have thanks for the video but I’m not sold

    Just give your my testing information on RT2600ac Wifi router located in Garage for speed range, 1000Mbps home internet plan, use internal wired cable to wall RJ45 socket in second floor plugged in a cable of 20 meters to the end of one bedroom into my laptop (still IP in the same 192.168.1.x with RT2600ac) max 500Mbps, if plug into a switch with 10Gb port then cable off the switch into laptop( IP range still in 192.168.1.X), it is about same 500Mbps, ( the far end testing location is about 50meters out from wifi router in the garage). Compared with your testing result on this one, I don’t see any improvement of wifi speed as well as the distance proliferations. 6 antennas versa 4 antennas on wifi6, Tri bands on 160MHz officially certified? Or it is just on the paper claimed and the result tells all.

    Now that SRM 1.3 is out, here's an idea for a UA-cam video. How would a person with a printer on the primary network share it (the printer) with visitors on the guest network without sharing anything else?
    UPDATE: Actually, I figured out how to do this and it’s a very nice additional feature. You have to be sure to uncheck network isolation in both the Primary and Guest Networks. Then create 3 firewall rules (watch the Synology video). But the trick for me was making the firewall rule allowing the guest network to share the primary network printer IP address first, followed by the rule to block guest to primary access second and primary to guest network third.

    The Synology RT6600AX has been in the wind for a long time. Unfortunately it’s expensive and many of its design choices don’t make much sense. No SD card and only one USB port is less then ideal. Only one 2.5GbE port. WiFi 6E routers are starting to show up now and the RT6600AX only supports WiFi 6. Also SRM 1.3 on the RT6600AX cannot be configured with Synology MR2200ac mesh points because they don’t support SRM 1.3 yet. Synology can’t release SRM for its previous router hardware fast enough at this point.

    • @SpaceRexWill
      @SpaceRexWill  2 роки тому +1

      The USB port can have a dongle. What do you need the SD card for?

    • @jodajackson4489
      @jodajackson4489 2 роки тому +1

      @@SpaceRexWill No one needs an SD card on the RT6600AX but it’s in the same category as the single USB port. Previously Synology routers had more then one USB port and an SD card. Adding features is typically preferable to removing them in products such as this, especially, when the product in question isn’t cheap and is a bit tardy to the party.
      As for an actual use for the SD card, how about additional storage for quasi NAS capabilities of the router or for offloading SD cards to an actual NAS (or USB drive).
