Loved my Red Wing 2239s ! Bought a pair every year with my boot allowance and would wear them year round , they were SO comfortable!! They stopped making them about 4-5 years ago. I even called Red Wing and they were discontinued. They make nothing that compares to them so I no longer wear RWs . My Grandpa Stone had a boot and shoe repair shop when I was a kid. I still remember the smell of leather , glue and dye in his shop and watching him apply his art ! Most Everything is throw away these days !
i didn't know shoe repair shops still existed. i worked outside for the power company as a lineman from 1972-2014 and went through many pairs of work boots including climbing boots. i found most of the boot companies after about 1990 either went out of business or started sellng real junky boots made offshore and not made to be repaired and resoled. keep up the good work.
I used to love working as a benchman in Timpsons. I appreciate your skills and love the way you hand cut the welt grove prior to welt stitching the whole base. Great job 👏 👍
@@kato2395 Maybe, but at least I dont rely on a shoe repairman anymore. And I find handywork very much satisfying. After watching neraly all videos I could find, I slowly got the tools and learned how to change and stitch new soles on my boots and my wifes aswell.

Hi @jasonjennings8465! Thanks for your feedback! If you're considering Iron Rangers for data center work, a resole with a more cushioned and slip-resistant option could enhance their practicality and comfort. We recommend the Vibram 430 Mini-Lug Sole for its sleek profile, excellent grip, and all-day comfort-perfect for environments like a data center. You can explore this and other resole options here: www.kwshoerepair.com/collections/boot-recrafting-services? If you need any help deciding, feel free to email us at info@kwshoerepair.com. Hi @petersullivan3012, thanks for your comment! If you’re feeling inspired to get your Iron Rangers resoled, we offer a specialized Iron Rangers Resole service. Nice job. Just curious isn’t there a way to keep the full depth of cork midsole without having to grind it down. For example put a small leather rim of same depth at the edge and then put a layer of leather over that then stitch it all down. Then you’d get the full cork that will mold beautifully to your foot.
why does your 5 in one click that way. mine does not. also for the small knob on the end of the blade of the five in one mine does not move. what does that piece do?
Red Wing is supposed to be one of the best shoes/boots on the market. After seeing you rebuild and upgrade these boots I'm not so sure. What is the best most comfortable low-top shoe/boot a heavy person weighing 350 lbs can buy? Awesome great job and video. You have an amazing talent for this. Thumbs up.
Hi @thomastommy1192! Thanks for the kind words and for watching our video. If you're looking for a comfortable and supportive low-top shoe or boot for a heavier individual (350 lbs), here are my top recommendations: Red Wing Heritage Moc Toe (Low): These boots are known for their durability and comfort, offering excellent arch support and a roomy fit. You can find them directly from Red Wing retailers or authorized stores. Birkenstock Professional A630 Work Shoe: Designed with superior arch support and a slip-resistant sole, these are ideal for anyone looking for comfort and support. They’re also lightweight and durable. If you’re looking for something custom-fitted or modified to handle your specific needs, we also offer customization services for shoes to enhance comfort and durability. @@KWSHOEREPAIR great answer, it’s all about support. The greater the load the quicker they wear. 30 years in construction here. By the time I strap on the tool belt I am over 220lbs, then to pick up and carry the equipment to be installed, add another 50lbs.stand on a ladder all day and those arches are screaming! The knees are sore. New foot insoles, new soles or new boots are always welcome and you wonder why you waited so long to get them. Also the abrasive concrete floors wear the soles out quickly. I have been very successful with two pairs about 6 months to a year apart in age. They are completely dry from sweat if you are able to rotate wearing them every other day. Also after the boots start to smell( they will with 12 hour days) I will rinse them out with a 59/50 mix of vinegar and water , works very good. Sounds expensive to have two pairs of boots, but it is very cost savings taking care of your lower body, the boots last much longer with minimal care. Socks that wick perspiration are also a game changer. Merino wool or alpaca, also very expensive. I will buy 2 weeks worth(14 pairs) and they will last up to 4 years! Same with the boots, that includes resoles( nice to have the second pair when the other is getting resolved). There you have it! Things I have learned from 30 years of working on my feet, wish I would have learned this as a younger man.
I should get a pair of Iron Rangers just to have them in my rotation but when I tried on a pair I could feel a few of the nails through the heel; nothing a thin insole wouldn't fit and then the hard sole with no midsole, meh. Almost better off spending a bit more for Truman's or something else in the $400-500 range unless you really like the leather and fit of the Iron Rangers. They fit me just fine, just the issue with the nails in the heel were the turn off.
Hi @cjanquart! Thanks for your detailed comment. If the Iron Rangers’ nails in the heel were a deal-breaker for you, a modification could make them more comfortable. We offer custom midsole installations and heel adjustments for boots like the Iron Rangers, which can eliminate discomfort caused by the nails and add cushioning. You can also upgrade to a leather or Vibram midsole for improved comfort and longevity. Check out our Iron Rangers resole and customization service here: www.kwshoerepair.com/products/iron-rangers-resole If you’re still exploring options, feel free to email us at info@kwshoerepair.com, and we’ll help you find the best solution for your rotation. So therapeutic watching leather shoe repairs by a master craftsman...Bit concerned about the thin tread on this one though...looked like that would be gone in a couple months
Hello sir, this is Richard James, new delhi india.. keep watching your all video, and I love boots also.. wonderful videos keep sending us... God bless you Regards Richard James
Shoe craftsmen. There are a few in our 1 million person city area. Just a few. Fabulous folks. With built in obselescence and disposal without repairs, the current "toss it and buy a new pair" idea runs counter to the green narrative - it is obviously a joke on us - ditto our taxes and fuel costs. Repairing good quality items is a lot better than buying 12 month shoes that end up in landfill. I have 2 pairs of hand made boots and a pair of shoes that are 16 years old and all of these look brand new thanks to re-soling and repairs.
Im sorry, not to take away from the craftsmanship, but there was still plenty of life left in those boots. A little cleaning and polishing would have gone a long way.
Shoemaker. Cobbler. Craftsman. Artisan. All hail the dying breed. A mesmerizing watch. Soul food for the mind.

When I saw the shine on those leather boots, I had to watch this video. Truly a master at his craft.
Very good work. Impressed with the details required to complete this project.
Excellent job !!
What ? those boots were perfect .
Just the right amount of worn in with plenty of life left....nice looking when "repaired" though.
my thoughts exactly! they were fine boots still and weren’t even that worn

The sewing machine used to sew the sole on … pretty complex. Developing such a machine must have been a lengthy affair..
