    • @GlennMcGrewII
      @GlennMcGrewII 7 днів тому +4

      Ah, but there IS a problem, and neither of them addressed them, but here's the biggest one: the use of concentrate that is sometimes stored for a long time and then had sugar and other things added to it to make it more enjoyable, plus adding in sugars. They both had the opportunity to raise awareness about the difference between fresh-squeezed OJ and store-bought, let alone some of the brands that sell juice that's more sugar water than anything else. Yes, some brands produce juice that's relatively good for us but that doesn't mean it's necessarily safe for people with metabolic disorder. Also, neither actually educated the public on how to differentiate between the good stuff and the crap - and there's plenty of crap!

    • @Astro2024

      She is just trying to sell her product.
      For her a glass with 25g of sugar in water would probably be the same too.
      She is just ignoring all the additional nutrients in those drinks.
      Orange juice ofc has lots of extra value, becaues of vitamins etc.
      And honestly, from a biological standpoint, it would also matter a lot how fast you drink it.
      You can also dilute it with water if it's that concentrated.
      Which takes care of another issue, the acidic nature of the drinks.

      Citric acid and especially malic acid destroys tooth enamel far worse than sugar does, because it weakens enamel quicker. Sugar develops acid overtime due to bacteria conversion. Hence if you brush your teeth after, say, a sugary meal or beverage, your teeth will thank you. It's advised not to the same after eating foods or candy or drinks containing citric and/or malic acid.
      My extreme sour candy addiction resulted in two lower right teeth shattering. I now will have to get costly implants, and will soon. My dentist informed me acids in foods and drinks are worse than sugar itself. When both are present, it's like gasoline on a fire.
      This is the reason frutarians, an extreme of veganism, results in dental problems down the line. Durianrider, for example, had to get full dental implants. All his teeth are artifical. This was caused due to his high fruit diet. He was once fruitarian.

    She's a glucose-focused content creator.
    When she equated Orange Juice to Cocacola, she was speaking directly to glucose spikes because that relates to cravings.
    She's right about that. The problem might be that glucose spikes are not the thing to mainly focus on, but she's right about how to manage it.
    She's also right about how to combine and order the food items in your meals to help you keep a low glucose spike.
    Again, not the main thing to focus on, but it's very important.
    Many content creators focus on different aspects of health (Intermittent fasting, health, antioxidant foods, vegan foods - like you, etc).

      What's the fraud here? Orange juice DOES cause a significant blood sugar spike, and repeated blood sugar spikes ARE thought to lead to the development of diabetes. It's great that there are lots of benefits to drinking orange juice, but we shouldn't poison ourselves with sugar to get those benefits. Raising awareness of the disease-causing sugar in fruit is a public service. Obviously soda lacks the positives of orange juice, but they do have very similar negatives, and no evidence in this video is particularly compelling, especially a scientific paper funded by orange producers.

    I’ve been hearing this for years: “Juice has as much sugar as soda - it’s just as bad!” I wish people would just use common sense. If we really stop and think about it, we know that Coke is less healthy than juice, just like we know that whole fruit is healthier than fruit juice. Yes, there’s sugar in juice, but there are also micronutrients and all the phytonutrients which don’t even exist on a nutrition label but have health benefits. Plus, sugars are just a form of carbohydrate (in addition to starch and fibre); we need sugars, as they provide energy to every cell in our bodies. Sugars aren’t inherently bad. Carrots, after all, are mostly sugar.
    Juice in moderation is absolutely fine. I sometimes enjoy a glass of o.j. with breakfast. I also think freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices can be a great way for little ones to start the day. It provides them with hydration and some quick energy (which little tummies often need as their metabolisms are so much faster than those of adults) before breakfast.

    I was very curious about her for a while. In a video she mentioned that you can falsely “improve” your glucose curve by eating certain unhealthy foods… she gave the example of a diet of butter and wine, which would make it appear your glucose was in check on a glucose monitor. Then I was like “aha! Well that’s why other nutrients and other tests are important too!” You can’t base your health on a glucose monitor, though it may be helpful as part of a more well-rounded system.

      @HarveysWorkshop 5 днів тому

      Nonsense. Orange juice has a lot of sugary fluid, which can cause an immediate spike in blood sugar levels. Let's put some numbers to it. A glass of orange juice contains about 23 grams of sugar - which isn't far off the daily limit of sugar recommended by the American Heart Association. A diet coke wont spike your sugar. The vitamin C in a glass of Oj is just 100mg. An ascorbic acid pill is at around 500mg already with none of the sugar spike. I dont see the need for orange juice which is just the invention of california orange growers who could not sell all their orange.

      “High” fructose corn syrup is 50-55% fructose, 45-50% glucose.
      “Sugar” (often called table sugar) is the molecule sucrose, which is 50-50 glucose-fructose.
      Are you aware of any evidence that that 5%, at most, difference causes significantly worse health outcomes? I’m not. If anything, fructose has a GI (glucose index) of 19-25 while glucose is 100. So should would spike your blood sugar slightly less.
      Any form of sugar with little micronutrients or fiber, be it “processed” (sugar, HFCS) or “natural” (honey; agave or maple syrup) aren’t great for you. In small amounts/occasionally they’re fine (best near a workout). But given the prevalence of obesity, it’s hard to recommend any sugary food aside from whole fruit. Most people don’t need the extra calories from any beverage, including juices. They aren’t good for your tooth enamel either (any soda or juice, really).
      If you want to drink something sweet, a diet soda would likely be much better for your health, especially along with an orange (instead of OJ). The evidence strongly supports artificial sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose being safe at commonly consumed doses (generally less than 6 cans a day, although as high as 50 cans may still be under the limit for you, depending on your body weight and the sweetener).

Erindinger offer one as an isotonic sports drink, that comes with B12 in it!
      But you make a good point about calories.
      Also, people don't think about it, but you can dilute fresh juice with water.
      Recently, I've been trying water kefir with some fresh lime or ginger for flavour. The kefir digests the sugar in it, you drink the probiotics it makes. It's certainly not as sweet as an orange juice & naturally fizzy.
