He felt miserable earlier in his life and now he feels better than ever. Simultaneously, he puts out all the data and his findings for free and supports whole food plant based lifestyle.
@@bonchidude You really think that glyphosate, pesticides, tilling and combine harvesters never kill animals? Animals are killed in mass to grow cereals, legumes, vegetables and fruits. Other animals like birds and predators are also killed indirectly because they can't feed on insects or rodents which have been exterminated by pesticides.
While I did applaud him for putting stuff out for free, maybe I did crack a few too many jokes and not mention that as far as rich tech dudes go, Bryan seems to be really genuine and well-intentioned which I appreciate. He could easily keep all of this a secret and I'm sure other rich people are. I also want to emphasize that while I was pointing out potential holes in the regimen (or for people who try to follow it), it certainly is better than what I do lol.
He gets his EVOO from very specific sources where they can verify the quality matches that found in lab quality EVOO, and he says that 99% of EVOO does not have the benefits needed.
To Mic the vegan: Chimpanzees eat a little bit of meat in the wild sometimes. Some chimpanzees eat their own kind sometimes. Some chimpanzees eat their own species sometimes.
To Mic the Vegan: Why do you look so pale? Is it because of your vegan diet? Also vegetables, fruits and non meat substances do not have B12 vitamin. Did someone lie to me? Also some people do not care what you think. I do not have the natural control over that, even if I wanted to. Some people resist me anyways. So you and your group of vegans are on your own.
That really means alot, especially because he has mentioned openly about his struggle with severe depression. Thank you for being conscious to other ppl's feelings and also sharing something positive about them. Whether rich or not, ppl are struggling and many times we know nothing about it.
I don't get all the hate Bryan's getting on the Internet. He is a free Man, he lives in a Free Country, he can do whatever he wants with his Money. And the good thing for us a Society is, he is giving out tons of free information on his anti-agin routine. It's a win-win for everyone. To some People, he may seem obsessed, but to Society, he is providing tremendous value based on his own research he funds with his own Money. Instead of caring what he does with his Time, Money, & Energy, why not use his methods and apply it in your own Life wherever you can. We all want to look healthy & young as we get old, so, there is nothing wrong with it.
It is a free country and the people critiquing him are free to do whatever they want. Brian is not beyond reproach and people questioning his lifestyle are not "hating". He is intentionally pushing himself out there and as a result, he is going to get a reaction. It's time for his fans (because he doesn't seem to be as bothered by this) need to grow thick skin.
@@berniv7375 yes, charitable foundations are very profitable indeed, I wish he cashed in on people's suffering too instead of those stupid vanity projects 😩😩
I’ve been following Bryan Johnson for a couple months now. I think the greatest value in what he is doing is that he emphasizes diet (plant-based), exercise and sleep, which are things that everyone can focus on and improve regardless of their financial situation. It just takes discipline and focus. So in that sense it is inspiring and motivating.
No, those things can't be done by everyone regardless of status. Diet? What about food deserts? Exercise? What about people who don't have the time or money for that? What about disabilities? Sleep? What about people who work multiple jobs or work the night shift?
An uphill walk or going up and down stairs is exercise, as are body weight exercises, which require no equipment. And if you have a yard in a food desert, you can grow your own vegetables. And only 5-10% 0f people regularly work night shift, but there is no reason they can't use block out blinds, white noise and earplugs. Excuses are everywhere.@@msjkramey

He actually is vegan for ethical reasons. He mentions this in one of his interviews - that he hopes the human race will evolve and become more responsible and compassionate. At that time he stated that he couldn’t find a good vegan supplement for collagen (but hoped to).
So he is not vegan for ethical reasons, because he drops veganism if it means he will live longer. He comes first before any ideal he thinks he is following, but he is not vegan, he puts his life extension and his looks first. Most vegans don't do that when it comes to diet and looks because they actually are vegan.
Collagen supplements come from vegan animals. So, there is obviously a way to make lots of collagen from eating grass. Almsost all other priamtes are vegetarian (not vegan because the do eat bugs). So, collagen supplementation is not necessary.
@@sustainablelife1st there is a way to make collagen from grass by Humans don't have the mechanism required to do it, herbivorous animals convert nutrients from plants we can't digest into a bioavailable form for us, it's one of their key roles in the ecosystem.
I suppose having earned a billion dollars made him realise that (despite what a lot of excuse makers say) you can't buy health, or lifespan, so he's trying to earn that, now. He's a trier, that's for sure. He's a one person longevity experiment, with all the stats recording it.
I listened to Brian Johnson's story on Pierce Morgan's show. Whilst Piers tried to punch holes in him he stayed peaceful, patient and very kind till the end. I applaud him for good manners and of course doing this scientific anti-ageing venture on a plant based diet. May he be blessed in whatever he does and reach all his goals.
What a ridiculous idea, that if you are health conscious you do not experience JOY! Anyone who actually believes that nonsense has never experienced it! Attend to your biological needs (including a biologically appropriate diet) and you will feel joy, guaranteed! Shame shame on the 72 people who agreed with this who think joy is about eating garbage food! Amazing. Btw he tackles this very idea in the video Mic excerpted but here's the whole thing. ua-cam.com/video/fuUm4ovkUp0/v-deo.html
I admire Bryan because he did something very few people do: he didn't like the way his life was going, and he changed it. Making a full scale change like that in your 40's is not easy. Plus he seems so happy. I say good for him.
45 is still pretty young. Generally if you look after yourself you can still look pretty young-ish at 45. Age accelerates a lot from 45 to 50 though in terms of greying hair, wrinkles etc.
People age at different rates at different stages of life, but we measure it the same way, by time. EVERYONE ages more rapidly in middle age, according to measures of biological aging. Women age noticeably faster than men after puberty (and perhaps even before, as girls are more 'mature' at young ages) until their 70's, when men fall off a cliff it seems, and women seem to slow down and end up living longer.
I think it isnt about just living longer. But it is also about increasing the quality of life as we age. Having seen my grandparents and older aunts suffer for their poor quality lifestyle choices has made me realize the best way to live is to take care of what goes into our bodies. Bryan's work helps with giving us ideas on what may work for the human body and increase the quality of our health
Thank you for this Mic. I have a book called 'Who Goes First ' that tells the stories of doctors and other medical people who experimented on themselves to better understand science. It is a fascinating read and I think this guy is providing a similar service to solve the problem of healthy aging. Good luck to him.
So it turns out adequate sleep, hydration, plant based foods, exercise and avoiding ultra processed food and alcohol is a good strategy for living longer? Who knew??
Metformin does not increase longevity in people that exercise according to some recent studies. It negates the benefits of exercise. Bryan Johnson exercises a lot, so it will be interesting to see if he drops Metformin from his regimen. Does he or his paid experts not know about this or do they currently disagree with the studies?
I think they are experimenting, if the metformin didn't help, they would stop taking it. The point is to be data-driven, not based purely on scientific studies, but also based on their own studies of Bryans body. They keep changing things up and measuring.
@MictheVegan regarding the collagen peptides, Bryan Johnson has said that they are still looking for a reputable vegan source... likely waiting for one that can produce a Certificate of Analysis (purity of soil and practice, no heavy metals, 3rd party batch tested, etc.).
12:36 I wonder... when I was working at a veterinarian clinic, I learned that cats and dogs who have been spayed/neutered they lived longer, and one of the reasons why was because it reduces their risk of reproductive cancers
When we are young we chase wealth, once we have it we chase health. I find this fascinating because his diet looks remarkably similar to the foods I ate growing up on a small Caribbean island. Most of our food we farmed or fished the same day we ate it! With no car we walked everywhere and swam for recreation. I am 47 and I still eat this way now it costs a lot more as I live in US but I still try to have a whole food diet, eat small bony fish a couple times a week, have an oatmeal breakfast of an insane amount of nuts, antioxidants and omegas and exercise every day. So far so good!
Re: the testosterone, I’ve seen a video of him talking about why he takes it. It isn’t to raise his levels to above normal but to raise his level from below average to normal. He explains this is because when you are in a calorie deficit (like he is) your body drops it’s levels.
Thank you Mic for pointing out that he’s not vegan since he consumes animal-based supplements. It always bothers me when he falsely identifies as vegan.
We need the collagen peptides, and those are much to low in vegetable protein. I don't know of any vegan supplements for them. It should be possible to just supply a few of the most important amino acids in collagen. Syntetical, I would think.
He said that he is still looking for a vegan collagen peptide. Currently none so far that has the same effects. He has a team of doctors and is tested regularly, if he did find one he would of swapped already. He is trying to eliminate animal products as best he can in relation to his health goal.
He is probably confused by the type 1 through type 5 story. I don't buy that there is an important difference but some do. I am more interested in the fish oil EPA question...
@@nickchristopherson6162 he said it himself, he is looking for a vegan alternative. he has 30 doctors that test his every organ and blood markers. not every peptides are created equally.
Some studies show real collagen has a greater positive effect on skin than just eating the amino acids. The reasons are not known yet but if you want the best skin and ethics are no consideration, then animal collagen is what you'd take.
Too much work, but he's experimenting on himself, so OK. Credit to him for freely providing the information about his regimen--he'd look like a Bond villain if he charged money for it--and it's good that, apart from the unattainable supplement regimen, it's practical, evidence-based stuff: Don't eat too much, make your diet mostly whole plant foods, get a good amount of restorative sleep, and engage in daily moderate exercise. Thanks for posting!
Yes. His olive oil is top notch quality. I think he makes it himself. He plans on creating a little olive oil business with full chemical analysis, like polyphenols etc. Sounds like he wants to profit from some of his protocol. I don't blame him, and it's a health business (more ethical) rather than a disease business like many other products in this country, e.g. tobacco, chicken farming, etc.
@@nonamepainter That's what he says. I hope that's how it plays out in the end - actually I don't really care if he does or doesn't profit a little. He may change norms and health knowledge for a certain percentage of the US, and maybe/maybe not make some profit along the way. He sure doesn't seem to need it (millions made from his companies or company), so maybe he won't. Only time will tell. No judgements, just look at the facts. Not that know all the facts, I'm not him.
Given that the olive oil biz in general is so corrupt, it almost seems like an amenity for the masses to provide and sell good quality olive oils with chemical testing backing
I just watched him on the diary of a ceo and he does have a purpose that is outside of the box for sure but compelling and has inspired my creative ideas about a healthy lifestyle and self dicscipline . He does explain the whole plasma thing with his son... He started by giving plasma to his father to experiment with a theory. His son jumped on board but didn't see any results. It was a benign experience compared to outrages media coverage. He is an interesting soul.i can think of far worse things a billionaire can do with his money. Seems to be super dedicated to his family and with positive intentions.
Re: Lithium - See NOVOS and their interviews (eg. at Modern Healthspan). Re: Melatonin: First it is no longer just for sleep. Second you can get plenty by eating nuts. One study found the same melatonin in a tablet in 2 pistachios. Re: Is it worth it? What people don't realize is that modest improvements to lifespan often come with huge improvements to healthspan. Look at the story of Dr Greger's Grandma for example.
I have seen him develop rashes off and on, likely contraindications or too much of a substance, but he seems to jump on those kinds of things right away, his team narrows down the cause and adjusts. I'm fascinated with how all of this is going to work out for him. As he's an n of 1, it will be difficult to extrapolate any meaningful data, especially since so many molecular components are involved.
Mic, we're at Vegan Camp Out 2023 and WE MISS YOU!! There's no medical / science / nerdy vegans speaking this year 😭😭😭😭 the WiFi is still terrible but please please please be there next year! We'll buy you Happy Maki rolls!
He at least has the money to buy the highest quality supplements (maybe pharmaceutical grade). You don't know what you're getting if you buy the cheaper supplements.
Have you done a super surface level look into Bryan before making the video?! He has a very specific type of olive oil. He says everything he eats that's deemed "healthy" is actually healthy by making sure they meet 5 layers deep of health. Not gonna explain what that means but he isn't a noob.
I think there's philosophic value to living a healthy life, while training in not fearing a natural death. I try to employ techniques like "last time" stoic meditations before I go to sleep, and reflect there could always be some freak accident that could cause me to not wake up tomorrow. Makes me appreciate life more. When my time comes, my time comes.
What I would like to know is how much of Bryan Johnson's life is taken up by all this activity to do with longevity. Does he do anything else other than something related to staying younger-looking? On the photos, I think he looks like someone who spends a lot of time on his appearance (plucked eyebrows, for instance) and if he spends so much time researching what he can take next or avoid to stay young, how much time does he have left to actually live? Also, I think quality of life is more important than length of life and the two are not mutually exclusive - eating a vegan diet, exercising and at least trying to get enough sleep will contribute to both a longer life and a better quality of life, leaving plenty of time to do things a person actually enjoys doing. Perhaps Bryan's idea of doing something he enjoys is all the stuff related to longevity - like regular hobby, in which case good for him. However, unless this is your 'thing', it seems to take away from quality of life rather than enhancing it.
He doesn't pluck his eyebrows. He actually uses a product to try to thicken them. He was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when he was 21 years old, and a lot of people with that condition have thinning eyebrows.
Good on him! I mean, anyone can follow Dr. Gregor and Dr. Sinclair and get 99% of this. The hard part is to actually put it into practice. The daily calorie deficit is one of the main factors, but it is so hard to put into practice.
Just watched a video the other day about a fitness instructor who took excellent care of her health and never smoked who was diagnosed with lung cancer in her early 30s. Another article I read was about a super healthy guy in his 30s who was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the digestive system. I totally respect people’s decision to live the healthiest life, but sometimes you do everything right and you’re still screwed over.
Yes you are right (kind of). There's genetics, that's how predisposed you are to say cancer, and epigenetics, that's how genes switch "on and off". So you could have a 90% chance of getting cancer (genetics) but reduce it to 50% with diet and lifestyle changes (epigenetics). So like most things in live it's a decision based on each individual's personal cost benefit analysis of behavioural change.
Dr Greger has a video on B12 supplementation. You can take your B12 as one big dose/week of about 2000 mcg. This takes into account the lesser absorption.
Or you can include these foods and drinks in your diet and will not need to take supplements; Beetroot, potatoes, butternut squash, mushrooms and seaweed. Apples, bananas, blueberries and oranges. Real ale and some other beers. Vegan products such as Violife cheese and nut-based milks. These are fortified with B12 in the same way that breakfast cereals and bread are. B12 is also stored in the liver and is most readily absorbed from the foods above that contain it.
on testosterone: he is using the patch because of his caloric restriction his testostetone levels are too low. he is not maximising testosterone, just putting it to a high enough level to be healthy. this was his explanation.
He's sending the message you can only be vegan successfully by taking a pile of these useless products and powders everyday. He might as well be shilling for the $upplement industry. I've been vegan for 36 years. I've never taken a single supplement, including B12.
I agree that he is taking too many sups, but no B12? That is dangerous advice, given that most people don't supplement B12 or don't know how much cobalamin they should get, nor the sources.
@@Brukner841 I wonder what has allowed me to escape this "danger." It's all theoretical BS based on the idea that humans are supposed to eat meat! Even vegans buy it, unfortunately.
He takes 20grams of Collegen Peptides every day, so can you please explain to me why you would consider his diet to be completely "Vegan"? Last time I checked, collagen peptides are found in bones and the connective tissue of fish and animals, so how exactly does that fit into the "Vegan" diet? I thought it was NO animal products at all.

It's only good for vegans if he lives long. This is why I'm concerned that Dr. Greger might not be too healthy. He looks 10 years older than his age. Dr. Greger doesn't seem to believe in resistance training and appears to have sarcopenia. That's unfortunate for the vegan cause.
The thought that keeps coming up for me is why the emphasis on anti-aging? What about focusing on quality of life instead of quantity? I'm just not getting what's wrong with getting older.
You get sicker as you get older, it's pretty hard to be in perfect health when you're 80, much easier at 70. If you slow down aging you are increasing your health-span, your healthy years of life.
@@Nobody-Nowherehe's experimenting. Just eat a whole plant food diet, exercise, and get consistent sleep. You'll get 99.9% of the health benefits without the supplements and team of doctors.
dark chocolate actually "dutched" i.e. heated above levels which powerfully lowers the health benefits. I use cocoa powder instead which processed at much cooler temperatures. It does not taste as good but that's life.

A recent clinical trial of nicotinamide riboside from Finland using twins showed "that over the course of the study, body mass and fat percentage increased significantly, even though the participants didn’t seem to be eating more or exercising less. This increase in fat coincided with a decrease in insulin sensitivity..." So there's a big drawback to the supplement besides the high price. It shows that some things that appear good at first often turn out to be too good to be true.
Thanks for the video, Mic! Very nice. Bryan Johnson says in an interview with Tom Bilyeu that he is vegan by choice. He did not say he eats a vegan diet because of the health benefits, but because he chooses to. So from that remark, I would assume it is an ethical choice, although he does make exceptions (collagen, fish oil). He also says that he is eating a special kind of olive oil that is very rich in polyphenols, he explains about his selection of foods in the interview with Tom as well. When asked about sunscreen he just let's Tom ramble about the dangers of sunscreens, and he does not go into useless discussions. And every time Tom ridicules him and insults him, he stays super calm and polite. I agree with Bryan: we live in a society that celebrates self-destructive behaviours and ridicules the opposite.
Interesting, I did not see that interview but I was right in that he had he olive oil figured out. People who are following the basic instructions might not though. Just seems like the algae oil and plant-based collagen peptides would be an easy switch if he was ethically vegan. He could certainly still have some ethical motivations though.
@@MictheVegan Thanks for your reply! Yes, vegan for ethical motivations, yet not completely consistent. The taurine study used massive doses, and also showed how the effect reduced by half when the dose was halved. They gave 250mg per kg of bodyweight of taurine to monkeys. So you would need to take around 20g every day, the rest of your life :)
Well that's why he is taking the omega 3's from tiny fish oil or juice as you called it. The little fish have minimal heavy metals compared to the larger fish.
he is not guessing on what he should... he is constantly being tested by doctors and scientists and everything he eats has been considered in light of the results of his labs etc..
My grandma took none of those things and was no where near a millionaire and lived to 102..her sisters lived to 100 and 101 so it's mostly DNA which most people do not want to talk about because u cannot sell supplements for it😊
I disagree. There is certainly a lot of natural variation, but your grandma and her sisters probably made similar health choices and further, bad genes can be compensated for with correct nutrition in many cases, so there is no point in just giving up.
You are simply wrong. Your grandma might have had great genetics. This is not about that. We are all either helping our health or damaging it. We don't want it to be true because that would be a hail Mary for our poor lifestyle choices. Life style choices DO affect our life and health span. Someone's grandma living 150 while smoking three packs a day is completely irrelevant as it is obviously an anomaly. Genetics is not a death penalty. Epigenetic clearly shows that we can affect the expression of our genes.
I think it’s great that there are people willing to “experiment” on themselves and share their results. It’s up to us to be responsible and evaluate for ourselves.
Always thought habits to longevity is straightforward. Eat more plant based, less processed food, less oil and salt, sleep well, less stress, moderate exercise, good social support etc. Just that the depending on personal experience some of the things are more difficult to achieve than others. Straightforward but not easily achieved.
I just looked on cronometer to see if they have a high level of any particular nutrient. They don't seem to but he does probably gets ~3 grams of sat fat from it. Wonder if that's why his LDL is still over 70 a bit. Maybe he just likes them lol
An article on Dr. Greger's website entitled 'Do algae-based omega-3 supplements contain beta-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) that has been found in blue-green algae?' says that there's no research on whether algae oil has contaminants like fish does. They recommend contacting the brand to find out if they test and/or grow in a non-contaminated environment.
I would just say that as a physician who specialized in regenerative medicine, Bryan may be very intelligent in many ways, but he does not have the training needed in the sciences to understand fully what he is doing. He is taking information from his team and we are hearing it second hand. I would rather hear about the theories of what is being done directly from the specialists on his team. It would also be helpful for the public if he would allow some public access to his team for panels, questions, education.

@@jes7119 I didn't say it was abnormal. I'm just stating that not all of your organs are the same "age." using retrospective radiocarbon birth dating, researchers have shown that no matter a person's age, the liver is always, on average, less than three years old. The liver has a unique ability to regenerate after damage - however, it was unknown whether this ability decreases as we age.
@@Marine_Veteran_Vegan_Gamer I think it's a matter of semantics. If you're 30 years old then your organs are all 30 years old. The aging process may have a different effect on them due to their biological make up but they're still aging the way they're supposed to and they've all still existed for the same amount of time. I see what you're saying though - it's a very interesting concept.
I think the single ingredient supplements are for research and experimentation, and its easier to isolate and remove single supplements as well as add them in when needed
Macadamias have the most protein, most everything, I think? Out of all the nuts. They're the most densely nutritious! They're also the rarest, I think I read??? They cost a third more than walnuts here in the UK.
Hopefully he is enjoying the process and he's happy because I'm pretty sure that happiness is a factor of longevity!! As are relationships and socializing and they even say that having pets helps too. I wonder if he considers those aspects as well? I am happy about the plant based aspect, hopefully people will see that and decide to go that route also.
The macadamia nuts have a good omega 6 to omega 3 ratio, along with walnuts. Also have omega 7s. Too much omega 6 is very inflammatory as it competes for enzymes that are also needed by omega 3, for those curious about the macadamia inclusion.
Thanks for the review on Bryan's eating! I've been following him for a while now and really like what he's about - I follow parts of his plan: vegan eating plan (so SOS for me though), getting a solid 7.5 hours sleep (anymore than that makes me feel groggy) and daily exercise. I take 2 supplements daily, I don't need all those others ;-) I hope you can interview him one day for your channel 🙂

I think that methylene blue would have a better effect than every supplement combined that he is taking. Additionally, I would choose to have a lot more raw living foods in the diet such as more fruit
Anyone who thinks he looks 45 on the Caucasian age scale is insane. If you're conparing him to someone who has darker, oily skin (which serve as natural sub protectants) then sure he looks a little older but not by much. I'm black. And I think he looks amazing. Sorta looks like hes transitioning, but he doesn't look 45. ❤
I'm following his diet and most of his supplements and most of his exercises and at 68 I feel better living this way. I think you should interview him. He might help us veganize the world.
you and most of the commenters are coming off as haters, what hes doing is clearly positive and he emphasizes vegan for compassion reasons in podcasts please go into more detail about the collagen, because from my research, there are significant benefits to the collagen, and the vegan alternatives are different products and its not currently possible to have vegan collagen as much as it pains me and i would instantly buy vegan if i could, if it does keep you younger, thats a significantly different tradeoff than stopping the other animal products
collagen products are expensive anyway. I think for the average person youd be better off spending that money on some of the other supplements and youd have a better outcome.
Yes I agree, I’ve only watched a few videos of this channel and I won’t be subscribing. A lot of channels are about making money from being nasty about people they don’t agree with, I have to say the vegan ones are the worst. I’m out.
Mic - Please make another Bryan Johnson video! I love all your work. There's not a single video I've seen that didn't help me shape my diet/life to be vegan and healthy. I love your sense of humor, and if you watch more of Bryan's videos, you'll see he has a great sense of humor as well. I think he'd appreciate your father time joke. Just hoping to clarify a few points here if I can. 1) 2:30 - He did a behind the scenes video that photo shoot of the blood swap. It wasn't actual blood in the pic. Although, one thing I really like about him is that, as you mentioned, if something isn't showing demonstrable improvement to his health, he drops it. That's an important point that I think a lot of people are overlooking in his case. 2) 3:40 - He recently upped his caloric intake to ~2,200. With extra EVOO. (see #4) 3) 5:00 - The list on his website of the supplements he takes could be outdated. He has said that the list is subject to change a few times that I've seen. Also, I don't think he started talking about being vegan until after this list was published. I think if he has switched to all vegan supplements, he should definitely update the list, though. 4) 5:35 - He's added additional evoo (which is where the extra calories come from it seems). Also, he talks a lot about the quality of evoo needed to achieve the desired health benefits. He does source EVOO from "both hemispheres" to try and obtain the best in the world. You're very right it's so difficult to get high quality product, so he's posted on his website the quality qualifications needed. He's also going to be coming out with a "Blueprint EVOO" in a few months for people if they want a reliable source. 5) 6:40 - He goes into detail of why macadamia nuts are the superior choice in some of his videos. He also does walnuts and almonds in seemingly smaller quantities than the macas. 6) 7:20 - Do recommend a good multi? Would love to get all of these things in fewer pills. Currently, I've been taking about 7 different supplements he takes - although, I make sure to find vegan brands - many times they are less expensive compared to his recommended ones. 7) 8:20 - He does take ACV with the super veg meal. I know it's not classified as a probiotic, but it does help with gut health, of course. So, maybe they've found a way to maintain good gut health without a probiotic? Would love your take on that. 8) 11:01 - So, back to the first point. This could be an out of date recommendation, or just something the doctors he works with came up with, but not what he takes personally. I also know he has said in the past that he is vegan by choice, but blueprint doesn't give any recommendation one way or the other about veganism. So, for what it's worth, I think he is vegan for ethical reasons. Maybe he's spiciest against anchovies, though. I am against cockroaches. I will step on them. lol. 9) 11:59 - The testosterone patch is because he's deficient without it due to his caloric restriction. Now that he's upped his intake, I'm wondering if he's discontinued the patch as well. 10) 14:41 - Dr. Sinclair recommends a vegan diet and flat out says meat is harmful to human health despite not being vegan himself. So, I think he's a great person to point to who meat eaters wouldn't be able to claim is biased who knows how harmful eating animals is.
3:24 "What diet brings the perfect biomarkers? The Vegan"... NO. You are misleading people with that statement. He has said many times that Blueprint is agnostic of diets. He chose a vegan one for ethical reasons and that meant having to supplement more. His son consumes chicken and supplements way less things 🤷♂️
Bryan Johnson literally discusses on his website the whole counterfeit olive oil issue. He discusses buying single source extra virgin (yes, spending more) to buy authentic, high quality olive oil.

Whats the issue with macadamia nuts??!! I eat them regularly like all nuts and seeds... My cholesterol numbers are extremely excellent!!! Plant based / exercise etc..
Hey-- I think you're totally spot on for a lot of this. I get your entire philosophical debate about the fact that people, like me, who are encountering real-world non-millionaire life-problems can't afford it. But on the whole, I think you could have been just a tad more positive about the fact that this guy is showing even the rich mofos that hey-- even pretty-damn close to vegan (in a healthy way) is so much healthier than whatever the F you're doing. Here's my reasoning: vegans think a lot of social problems/climate change/income disparity/food insecurity is due in no small way to the idiotic misuse of resources to grow meat which impacts neither health nor the planet positively. And here's some guy that maybe some of the other rich idiots might listen to, because in his world, he's telling them that even if I spend $2 million a year to eat this way, it's better than whatever the fuck you're spending your millions on (yachts, etc)". Which in my mind is the equivalent of a vegan saying "yeah, I'll spend $14 on that same entree without meat than the $10 dollars you're spending and the $4 dollars you're saving by that meat dish that it makes no sense costs more." Maybe if he shows his rich frikkin friends that this is better by whatever insane logic his friends are using, they can change. At least that's my opinion of what he's doing.
I looked up sources of Lithium, and it seems to be in everything anyway - cereals, potatoes, tomatoes appear to top the list, along with other fresh fruits and veggies, meat and dairy included as well. So the rate of increase in cognitive decline is probably - as said many, many times before - due to living on too many processed and ultra-processed foods. If any people here have a garden or even a balcony, the very best forms of food are to pick berries straight off fruit bushes that you grow as organically 'as possible' and eat them fresh.
Our family were friends with a woman who was in her nineties when she died. She didn't pass away from natural causes. I never realised she was in her nineties. She looked like a youthful 60. She was fit, strong, never had any medications, no surgeries of any kind, not even appendix. She would not eat one thing outside of her traditional, Mediterranean, vegetarian diet that she was brought up on from birth. Her family all lived like this besides one, who I believe now has health issues. At 90 she was still driving a car and working right up until her death. No cognitive impairment. Wore glasses to drive only in her later years. No hearing aids. She was living evidence of diets effects on health. Do we see this with carnivore diets? Time will tell

…. It’s easier when money is not an issue 😂 but I see what you’re saying
45 is still pretty young. Generally if you look after yourself you can still look pretty young-ish at 45. Age accelerates a lot from 45 to 50 though in terms of greying hair, wrinkles etc.
I always looked younger until about 50. Then, my body jumped to old. A strange experience. Now- im Vegan. It helps with feeling better.
Exactly. I looked super young until menopause.
Yeah but he's a ginger, it's extremely hard to look young if you're ginger. I've seen 20 something gingers that look like they're 40s or 50s.
I agree
Thank you for this Mic.

Good point. You would think they would be on top of everything but there's so much happening in the field of antiaging maybe they missed it.
More like a bioavailable source, we don't have the mechanism to make collagen from plant compounds like herbivores.
Personally, I wish Bryan all the best in what he is doing, it's his life and his money. I really hope he lives a long full life.

Is it really necessary to eat sentient fish at all, seeing as how you're supplementing with omegas anyway?
This is the way.

He said that he is still looking for a vegan collagen peptide. Currently none so far that has the same effects. He has a team of doctors and is tested regularly, if he did find one he would of swapped already. He is trying to eliminate animal products as best he can in relation to his health goal.
Peptides are peptides when broken down into individual amino acids..it does not matter where u get them from they are still amino acids

Dr Greger has a video on B12 supplementation. You can take your B12 as one big dose/week of about 2000 mcg. This takes into account the lesser absorption.

Apples, bananas, blueberries and oranges.

Vegan products such as Violife cheese and nut-based milks. These are fortified with B12 in the same way that breakfast cereals and bread are.
B12 is also stored in the liver and is most readily absorbed from the foods above that contain it.

Worlds colliding. Haha I think you might’ve been a little hard on him considering he’s a really great spokesman for Whole Foods veggie diet, but overall good. The vitamin E thing is noteworthy. :)
That sounds strange. This is not in side effect range but rather is really close to expected mode of operation. I would want to see the data.

Btw, collagen peptides do not exist in plant based form, but I found a brand that is vegetarian, but I still do not buy it. Thanks for your videos, Mic, I always learn a lot, and congrats on your masters degree!
@@MictheVegan Where are the food-grade vegan collagen products? I can find only "collagen-supporting", "-promoting", "-boosting" etc., vegan products. Thanks in advance!
@MictheVegan I don't think you can actually get vegan collagen yet, only the aminos it is made up from
He seems to have changed all his supplements to vegan now
The taurine study used massive doses, and also showed how the effect reduced by half when the dose was halved.
I noticed the same thing about his diet- no fermented foods and or no probiotics. I would love to hear Bryan address this
Eats a lot of fruit and high-fiber foods, which are natural probiotics.
Probably to reduce his risk of getting Sibo. The 22 hours of intermittent fasting a day probably helps too.
he is not guessing on what he should... he is constantly being tested by doctors and scientists and everything he eats has been considered in light of the results of his labs etc..
Life choices probably play a major part on gene expression, so you won't know your potential unless you try something different.
He wants to live till what ever and look like he is 18, hude difference 😂
You are simply wrong. Your grandma might have had great genetics. This is not about that. We are all either helping our health or damaging it. We don't want it to be true because that would be a hail Mary for our poor lifestyle choices.
Life style choices DO affect our life and health span.
Someone's grandma living 150 while smoking three packs a day is completely irrelevant as it is obviously an anomaly.
Genetics is not a death penalty. Epigenetic clearly shows that we can affect the expression of our genes.
Genes load the gun, environment pulls the trigger.
Not forgetting gd medical system, environmental and genetics.
He's very careful about how he sources his olive oil. It seems like your making up this to criticize.
I mean it’s his life good for him for wanting to live long…I mean he could be doing a lot worse things with his money.
As soon as he started making fun of Bryan Johnson, I stopped the video...... I'm out. I came for the science and left for the disrespect.
Yay! Thanks Mic! I was hoping you'd cover this! Sequel? 😄
Thanks for this bro!
Important info
I'm surprised he doesn't routinely eat more greens. Also I was curious what you thought about his macadamia nuts intake.
Macacrappia nuts are the candy of the nut world. Hemp seeds DOMINATE them.
I just looked on cronometer to see if they have a high level of any particular nutrient. They don't seem to but he does probably gets ~3 grams of sat fat from it. Wonder if that's why his LDL is still over 70 a bit. Maybe he just likes them lol
So now macadamia nuts are bad!!!! 😂
I take Mucinex daily. Not sure if it lengthens my telomeres, but my eyes are less swollen. Takes 10 years off my face in the morning.
Technically, there are some organs that are older than others. They age at different rates.
A lion eats meat. So a lion has the natural anatomy of a carnivore to eat meat. The lion will not eat a salad, maybe a lion might eat a little bit of salad but even then I do not know. I am not a expert. So it does not matter what I say. A bear eats meat, a bear eats berries, a bear eats honey, and a bear eats fish. So a bear is similar to a omnivore in someway. Now remember I am not a expert, so I do not know for sure. But humans must kill another human in a self defense situation sometimes. That’s natural life, some carnivore needs to eat meat to survive. But I am just guessing, I do not know. If I say I do not know, I do not know. It does not matter if I am a hypocrite or not. That’s my problem, not everybody’s problem.
If some organs age at different rates, isn't that just the age they rate at? Making it normal?
@@jes7119 I didn't say it was abnormal. I'm just stating that not all of your organs are the same "age."
using retrospective radiocarbon birth dating, researchers have shown that no matter a person's age, the liver is always, on average, less than three years old.
"Vegan" diet for the win!! Love that!
He seems to spend a lot of time socializing.
The macadamia nuts have a good omega 6 to omega 3 ratio, along with walnuts. Also have omega 7s. Too much omega 6 is very inflammatory as it competes for enzymes that are also needed by omega 3, for those curious about the macadamia inclusion.
It’s so sad to see someone who is so terrified of death.
Thanks for the review on Bryan's eating! I've been following him for a while now and really like what he's about - I follow parts of his plan: vegan eating plan (so SOS for me though), getting a solid 7.5 hours sleep (anymore than that makes me feel groggy) and daily exercise. I take 2 supplements daily, I don't need all those others ;-)
I hope you can interview him one day for your channel 🙂
Seems to be like an unhealthy obsession with finding the fountain of youth.
Chimpanzees eat a little bit of meat in the wild sometimes. Some chimpanzees eat their own kind sometimes. Some chimpanzees eat their own species sometimes.
@@taylorfusher2997What does this have to do with anything? You want to eat your own species too?
@@aurorasurrealis1032 Ignore him, he is spamming this nonsense everywhere.
I think that methylene blue would have a better effect than every supplement combined that he is taking. Additionally, I would choose to have a lot more raw living foods in the diet such as more fruit
Hey, he's got a passion and the means to pursue it deeply, so go for it, buddy.
"A bit of intermittent fasting thing"? The guy fasts for 22 hours every day.
I'm following his diet and most of his supplements and most of his exercises and at 68 I feel better living this way. I think you should interview him. He might help us veganize the world.
you and most of the commenters are coming off as haters, what hes doing is clearly positive and he emphasizes vegan for compassion reasons in podcasts
please go into more detail about the collagen, because from my research, there are significant benefits to the collagen, and the vegan alternatives are different products and its not currently possible to have vegan collagen
as much as it pains me and i would instantly buy vegan if i could, if it does keep you younger, thats a significantly different tradeoff than stopping the other animal products
collagen products are expensive anyway.
I’m out.
he was missing lycopene and i noticed he said he was taking pomegranate juice instead of pomegranate seed. The juice is full of sugar.
(see #4)
3) 5:00 - The list on his website of the supplements he takes could be outdated.
This is the breakdown we didn't deserve, but definitely needed.

@@taylorfusher2997 no they don't
im confused, how is he not vegan? If the vegan societies definition of vegan is reducing exploitation of animals as far as practical and possible, how is it that somebody who is using as little as practical and possible, not vegan?
I guess it's better than being rich and just being interesred in cars. Maybe he will help humanity in some way.
Which in my mind is the equivalent of a vegan saying "yeah, I'll spend $14 on that same entree without meat than the $10 dollars you're spending and the $4 dollars you're saving by that meat dish that it makes no sense costs more."
Maybe if he shows his rich frikkin friends that this is better by whatever insane logic his friends are using, they can change. At least that's my opinion of what he's doing.
You sound like you’re still just spending mommy and daddy’s money.
Hey Mike, where do you put links now for your sources, very good info
