It's surprising to hear that in this improvisation you can hear in advance some riffs and solos that he then wrote years later with Nevermore! Jeff Loomis is an amazing guitarist! Thanks for existing Jeff!
@@chrisking6695 That's the plan brother. Already I've gone from not being able to sweep pick very well, to being pretty solid. @@FabrizioCARENA well, miles of machines was an original composition from his early 16 years, you can listen to the first guitar contest entry he ever was and how It is miles of machines
It IS the Born chorus. Interestingly enough, that chorus was originally going to be phrased around diminished thirds like it is here, but Andy Sneap suggested changing it to major/minor and that’s what ended up on the record.
Have to love 80's VHS... takes me back to the days when we had to figure out songs by watching wiggly wobbly fuzzy tapes tweaking the tracking speed to decipher anything hahahah. Anyone know what guitar Jeff is playing here, can't manage to recognize it.
It’s very good . I think the 17 year old Paul Gilbert who won Guitar wars would have taken this as well . I have never seen anyone shred like he did in that Guitar wars video
Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like a bc rich gunslinger. Or an esp. I would say Jackson but Jackson logo would be noticeable and this one does not look like one
I felt the same now after watching it again, as I did the day we did it live. Bunch of great techniques, obviously spent a lot of time working on those riffs, looks cool as fuck, very fast, but no feeling, no emotion, just robotic like playing, didn't give any musical quality to any of it .. just my opinion. There's more to playing guitar than just being the fastest. His playing, although expert level, doesn't touch any part of my soul and only one genre - boring... again just my opinion.
mustaine done fucked up not getting him in megadeth. however, we would have not had his input in sanctuary, nevermore, etc. so it's all good in the end!
No if he didn't hire Marty we wouldn't have the tornado of souls solo, symphony of destruction solo and all the other great solos that marty wrote. marty was one of his best picks for guitarist, also marty influenced jeff when he was in cacophony with jason becker.

Jason Becker's Serrana influence a little just a little... What a young beast. Great!!!!
Yeap spot on!
@Mario Jović lil if you say so, i mean He did borrowed but OK, He was young. Some other payers were great to IMHO.
new goal. Im freshly 16 as of august 8th. I want to be able to play like that by 19
You can if your practice routine is on point! Don't just noodle shit really focus on technique and implement it in musical context.

I hear Chances Three & a bunch of Nevermore in there, as well as Cacophony.

a guitar beast at 19...what guitar that Jeff used there? anyone? looks like peavey
Video and audio is off a lot
That clean part obviously Marty and Jason style...

agreed. loomis is fantastic and incredible, but no one can touch gilbert: ua-cam.com/video/xjSFvcrJ7M8/v-deo.html

anyone know the classical piece he plays in the clean section?

Yngwie Malmsteen
Major Racer X influence !!!
Haha. There never was a “contest”. Just the GOAT and the other guys, who never stood a chance…. Just NPCs to fill the lobby.
