Jeff is one of my guitar heroes. What a player. I got to see him in Dallas when he was touring his first solo album. He made time for us all after the show and was just such nice and humble guy. Nothing but respect for this man.
There's something about the technical players from that era that is just different I guess. Like Jeff, Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Marty Friedman, Vinnie Moore, Andy Timmons etc. Maybe it's because guitar instructionals were kind of a rite of passage back then?
As soon as I opened the video and saw the guitar I thought the same thing... And I'm already obsessing over his sig Kelly. That man is going to break my bank account. I'm a Jackson fanboy as is, but also a big Loomis fan as well.
I have a project in my DAW labeled "Practice". Recording yourself really exposes your flaws. I make a new track each time I practice to track my progress. Works well for me.
It’s very weird to watch him play like this. Still a ripper and my all time favorite guitarist, but watching him play like this is a weird thing to experience.
I was taught the wrist only technique and was told it was a randy rhoads thing, but he played fingers extended I think, thanks for the updated tip gonna work on this! 👍 JL!!!!!
He doesn't close his hand when shredding though. And the reason is the sharpy pick. He uses his pinky to gauge the distance from string to the tip of his pick. He only closes his wrist in certain instances when it's comfortable such as tremolo picking. I do the same thing. But the moment I practice scale runs i open my hand again to loosen up and I use my pinky as a guide as well bc I also use a sharpy pick.
the very first one im doing. having the pinky out and down like that. i saw james hetfield do it that way and thats the way ive always done it. time to change that habit.
@@drugjoza5000 Let me clarify, when I said metal I meant metal from what existed at the time. Metal is now with djent/metalcore/deathcore inspired bands, and while there are many great ones, Nevermore was one of the last "traditional" styled metal to exist. Not hating on the new, I love a lot of new stuff and I can always hear when it's a Nevermore inspired band!
@@okaight7248 I would recommend Archspire, The Faceless, new Decapitated, Revocation and Soreption if you're looking for modern bands that aren't core influenced
@@drugjoza5000 Dude.. Beyond Creation (first 2 albums), Obscura, Virvum, Irreversible Mechanism (my personal favourite "upcoming" band.. waiting for a 3rd masterpiece to call them an all time favourite), and a 100% agree on Revocation from my behalf!
His comment on only using the wrist is completely misguided. We know from the research done by Cracking the Code that several arm motions work for fast speeds, including forearm rotation and elbow movement, and combinations of wrist and forearm rotation. Using the right hand closed down is also completely subjective and might actually increase the amount of tension on it.
You can slide your forearm to attack all strings at the same angle. When I started doing this I improved dramatically. Takes a few days to get used to, but we'll worth it.
The fact that Miami pins any comment that asks for it is awesome!!
pin me plz

Great warmup advice from Jeff Loomis

Really solid tip, John!

Lol I’m loving the channel Joey. I also love that you have so many current videos featuring Jeff Loomis.
Jeff always played super fast and clean with an open palm in the past. Interesting he changed his style over the years.
In older videos you can see him using an elbow and look visibly uncomfortable with his technique, it's great that he changed it.
It’s very weird to watch him play like this. Still a ripper and my all time favorite guitarist, but watching him play like this is a weird thing to experience.
This is awesome! This is how I warm up, run through my scales. Glad to know I’m not stupid for doing it this way.
yes just keep posting Jeff Loomis videos pleaseee lol btw Jackson better sell that 7 string
@Jordan Boyd Guitar it’s so killer
I like Jeff Loomis
You and I both my friend!

This is the full video
@@joeymusic awesome thank you
It also helps to be a Alien.
Tell me about it! These Greys can shred!!! But they mostly listen to ambient stuff???
Well, now the important fact, where can I buy this guitar??
🔥🎸🔥
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Chuck Norris just gets you Sirron Kcuhc, with Loomis you get Simool Ffej!
The denim jacket is customary
it's just like he said... Paul Gilbert have the knowledge about picking. he's a guitar master
This is an example of what mustain would be like if opioids didn’t exist. They even look alike now.
I like this beast even more than his Kelly. Useful tips although he did not say new things.
Mentiones Paul Gilbert 😁 god i love guitar gods 🤘💪👍🎸
I like to watch Jeff's videos at 50% faster speed so I can lost twice as fast.
Jeff Loomis won the golden fiddle but told the devil to keep it cuz he needed to practice

Nevermore is one of the last great metal bands to have ever existed
LMAO plenty of amazing metal since Nevermore. And that's not taking anything away from Nevermore by saying that. You're missing out on A LOT my man.
Dude there's like 10 Nevermore inspired masterpiece bands out there tf you mean

Damm, nice video, but the sub-liminal messages were fucking cringey as.
I dare you to heart this comment.
Down down down bad
Don't really like open pours but this one is sexy!

I dont understand why we need the dude trying to 'commentate'
fellin limp
When I anchor my forearm I end up in the half-circular motion so I am not attacking all the strings at the same angle. Wow. I suck.
We still have time... don’t let it be for naught
