The worst feeling when growing up was to be the guy in the house to pound fufu. Should there be an error when striking then you hit your mum's hand. The worst feeling ever

Banku made from corn cassava that's it not plantain. but I'm team Fufu with chicken soup or light soup all rice balls and peanut butter soup with Black Eyed Peas yummy
Actually the combination is endless.. Kenkey can be eaten with okro soup or stew, palmnut soup peanut soup.. Same with the banku.. You can try out combinations to see what you prefer.. Try out the green soup.. Very delicious.. 😀
Hello Ayo and Tony I really enjoy the video very informative on the different dishes that you can eat there in Ghana. And how the food was made as well thank you guys for sharing.
For fufu my absolute favourite is with light soup with a big chicken wing. For kenkey I prefer the Ga kenkey to the Fante kenkey and I like it with fresh pepper with onion and sardines or maybe abobbi. I guess I would say that banku and tilapia is tied for number three with rice and ground nut soup. Although, I gotta say that sometimes you just have a hankering for one or the other. And speaking of fufu it's gotta be fufu tin-tin (sp?) - that packaged stuff is like a ball of cream of wheat porridge.
We were there last Thanksgiving. We stayed for a month. Loved Accra. We ate at a lot of restaurants on Independence. I did not like the Fufu. So I ate banku, we spent a lot of time at Frankie's. We plan to come back for our passport and citizenship. We are on the president's list, but have not gotten a date. The one thing we kept asking was where were the Americans.
@@ExpatLifeGhana hi Ayo just a quick correction for the banku. There isn't any plantain in banku. There are two types of banku which is the usual banku (fermented ground corn dough and fermented ground cassava dough) and the other is Akple (pronounced aa.kpl.e this is made of ground corn dough or fermented ground corn dough. Its what you call grits but the fine grits which is either prefermented with water for days or mixed with water into a buttermix form and added to boiling water and kneeded till you get the thick fine more solid texture like a mash and it's ready to be eaten. There are other versions if you go to central region and western region known as Etew or Nsihun. The northerners also have the Akple version which is usually made of millet or corn grits which is made into what they call Tuo or Tuozaafi or TZ or Diahuruo also eaten in place of the rice balls in the north with either palmnut soup or peanut butter soup. You will find this on Sundays at Brian's Place in Tema community 10 not far from you. TZ is really highly nutritious and very tasty meal. Try that in place of the rice balls.
I have pounded fufu myself i ate it with some kind of curry like sauce it was interesting i liked it a lot. fuf by itself was pretty bland. I liked something called red red which was plantane and mutton and a red sauce. I must get back to akumadon one day.
You two are blessed...I am not kene, Fufu,Banku or Rice. I eat EVERYTHING . Lucky to eat Local pesticide free natural food with no chemical, conservatives or E232. Eat local and stay in good Health
There is no plantain in banku, depending on where you go, banku is either corn dough and cassava dough or just corn dough. And am team banku by the way, I love them all though.
Thank you for the explanation and breakdown. I want to be able to eat local and understand what's what so that I can get in where I fit in. I also want to learn to cook local at home (the one I buy there).
Hello brother Tony , sister Ayo & the boys . This is your sister Acouvi still here in New York . I am definitely team fufu & peanut stew, forget the rest Looking forward to seeing you all again in 2023. CHALE - OUT .

We are coming for our first trip this Spring!!!! We are finally booked!
Greetings from the bay area folks and have a great weekend!
Team Banku 🎉🎉🎉Yesssss! More Food Videos Please.
I like fufu but I love banku with okro stew more and also I love kenkey more than fufu especially when the pepper has shito also with shrimps omg
There's a rhythm to the pounding so the pounder hits and the turner turns. So they both have to be in sync. It comes with experience
Banku doesn't contain plantain as far as I know. Just corn and cassava dough.
The water leftover from boiling the kenkey is very medicinal
Otinshi nu, sweet
Good evening Ayo and Ton, please Banku is corndough and cassavadough only no plantain...🙌🏾❤
What is it with Ghanaians and the word "please" ?
@@nobs997 we are courteous.
@@ladydinahcrayem6434 It does not make any sense in a foreign language, it can be annoying sometimes

Thanks for listening, appreciate it.
Banku is usually prepared with only corn and cassava dough. Maybe the added plantain is an innovation
True no plantain in banku
Great great content 🍷
Watching you from bologna Italy 🇮🇹 always watching you guys the best food in the world is fufu and banku and kenke Ghana 🇬🇭 to the world 🌎
Correction y'all. Banku is made of corn and cassava dough mixed together, not corn, cassava, and plantain as stated previously in this video.

What about team REDRED and team WAAKYE? 🤷♂ NOT forgetting team TUO ZAAFI 🤣
They're using Thor's pestle. You need to be worthy.
Also, there's no plantain in banku.
You guys are amazing
Banku is cooked fermented corn dough and fermented cassava dough. Never add plantains. Plantains are for making Fufuo.
Hello 👋 am a kenkey person. Am at work and watching you guys and l wish l was there.
Team fufu with goat soup or Chicken are here 👌👌
Actually, 'kenkey' is a slang for d)kono, the Twi language and k)mey in the Gas not gas(gasoline). The Fantes pronounce it-'d)kon.'
Banku has corn and cassava dough only no plantain. The fufu is cassava and plantain.
Ayo does it again! Your earrings are wonderful!!!
Thanks for that comment @Holla At The KI D, appreciate it 😉!
Banku have cassava dough and corn dough not plantain.
Man…am I late to the camera game? You two are looking crisp and sharp.
Power in the banku.

@Kwadjoe Kaya - No we don't but banku and tilapia and thanks for the comment 😊!
@@ExpatLifeGhana lol.....
Banku and shito..
I love fufu, kenkey and banku
Well now there are machines doing that work but most people still prefer pounding, I hate the pounding style
Machine fufu doesn’t have the same texture and taste like the pounded one. Plus preparation of food is part of culture
Beautiful
Banks is Cassava dough mix with corn dough.
Fufu bangu are good

Pounding fufu is a skill . Sort of a rhythm, if u go out of sync u’ll hurt the person turning it
👌👌Did you know that there're different types of Kenkey?
Fu Fu and fish

I love them all,soo delicious when u know how to swallow.Tameles!!!
It sounds like kenkey is more like a tamale. Is that a fair comparison?
Team ga kenkay and non fermented banku. Fufu is good as well.
Banku and Okra soup!
Too much work to prepare Fufu but just to swallow it
Banku is just corn dough and cassava dough, no plantain included.
