Didn’t know Alex Jones does his own vehicle maintenance, cool .
Thats my dad
@@semperfimechanic you do remind me of Ole aj lol next time I'm down there ima call ya and get a beer
@@semperfimechanicis he really?
The road salts are turning the cars into MUSH
Hahaha
Bro sounds like he’s 12 bud lights deep into the football game
Working on cars before the days of UA-cam and the Internet when you had to know somebody that knew how to do it to show you you couldn’t just go on the Internet and look up what tools you needed and how to do it , all you had was Hanes manuals and bigger hammers
Isnt that the truth
I miss the bygone erra
And clymer automags 😂
I remember those days
A jack or jack stand under the control arm will stop the control arm from deflecting your hammer strikes, and you'll be able to knock out the ball joint even when rusted in there.
I was legit just about to do this lmao never seen another video doing it. Thanks for the reassurance
Sometimes you got to do whar you got to do
And sometimes that won't work lol
That's ok in a pinch, but a press is the way to go. 👍
Works exactly the same, same mechanisms at play. I don’t see a problem with this.
@@944LS until you crush the grease plate underneath where the grease zerk goes into.
@@dhmarkley that’s not the tools fault 😁
@@944LS no it's the tool that's using the tools fault. 😆
You put a socket on both ends the same way you put the cups when using the press
Nobody gonna talk about the single effortless swing it took to remove it 😂😂
Ive changed several hundred in my life and aint 1 of them came out with 1 swing EVER!!!!!! 😂😂😂
Im a beast
first swing on camera
@@semperfimechanic 😂👍🏻
I've never seen it flop around when I try to pull the snap ring off, perhaps I've been doing something wrong
Kudos to you being self taught and gettin after it bro. We all proud of ya!!!
The only problem with this C clamp method, the bottom where the part is being pressed needs to be supported on the outter rim so as not to bind up the ball joint. It looks like everything worked out here but a socket or cup on the bottom is necessary
no I use to make them lmao the bottom is thick atleast half inchebottom on the cup
Just get a big socket on that side as well axle sockets work great
Im sure that works fine when your not in the rust belt. Here in Connecticut that would've taken a torch and a bunch of cus words just to get it out!
Took a pickaxe head to break my balljoint stud free. Took a drill and drilled holes in the balljoint. This was to hopefully relieve some pressure and maybe it did I dont know. Let the steering knuckle bathe in oil for a day. Then used flathead screwdrivers as wedges and increased sizes going around. Bored out my pinch bolt hole and put a bolt with lock nut and washer.
Thats the rust belt for ya. NE Canada
From ct here it would have taken more than that out comes the torch and the air hammer
I've seen a few blow up in the shop from getting the worn ball joint to hot. It'll kill ya
@@masterpah1 thanks for poiting it out. I made sure they were sitting snug. Its not 100%like OEM but when your pinch bolt snaps, you have no torches other then propane are at home alone in the countryside, you make it happen regardless and I think I fixed it up quite well for the trouble I had.. Anyways thanks again for pointing it out as not everybody knows.
FACTS 💯😂. Massachusetts also. Easy job should be...well should be an easy job here not so easy
I like how you edited out the 4 hours of trying to get it yo press in straight.
Shhhhh
Specials with that flimsy c clamp.
And finally got it in there!
lmao
That won’t work on 95% of ball joints. A ball joint press you also use to press out most ball joints.😅
Yes your right you use a press to press out a ball joints. This is showing someone thats broken down and autozones closed and this is all you got
95%? More like 99.9% lol
A BFH + air hammer works to remove
A lot of ball joints. Some are stubborn though 🤣
You forgot that 5% of people are doing this😂😂😂
I wish i had someone like this in my neighborhood to help teach me .
Slick semper Fi brother oooorah keep up the good work man alright Cool 💯💯👍👍😎
Nice work. Improvise and execute.
I think this may be the best video I’ve seen all day. That swing and smack, it just popped out! Made it look easy mate 😂
Let's see that done in an axle not a stamped steel control arm.
Must be nice to live somewhere without road salt and winter. Most of the time the control arms are rotten by the time the ball joint fails.
Yes it is. All our stuff come apart with hand tools. Consider moving. That salt sucks.
@@RealWorldGarage Its pretty nice. I have a 02 Ranger and I've only had to get the heat out once.
Now that is a way to improvise, good work...thanks for sharing
Good Idea . Pep Boys and Auto Zone have loan a tool program . I borrowed their press and a larger fork to do ball joints on my Chevy Van .
He’s mustering up all his energy to speak from a marble eating throat. He did good.
Thats a good one
Great info! Grab yourself a pair of snap ring pliers. They have sets that come with internal & external heads. Got mine pretty cheap at Advanced Auto but maybe Amazon has them even cheaper.
This naybr so tuff he could have done this w/no tools whatsoever. Just his hands and teeth. Respect
Awesome man. You make it look easy and I have these tools. And could have done that. You ever order a part like a lower control arm and it don’t fit ? 05 dodge Dakota. Skp arm from Rick auto and too big can’t get it it. Other side is a different brand that was on sale and went right in.
Called “Going the extra mile” for the customer..
Great video ✌🏻🤧👍🏻
Fedsmoker? Keep feathering it brother 😎🙏
Rip conald peterson
You can tell my his voice that he has a big belly 😂😂😂
You spelled big dick wrong
@@semperfimechanic man I'm always doing that! Must be both gotta have a big shed for your tools 🤣🤣
Shit you right though big belly made big dick disappear
Omfg 😂 I died laughing thanks guys!!!
And all this time, I thought Alex Jones only spent his time and energy on conspiracies.
Thats my father
That control arm looks like it would fold in half with my 95lb 4’9” Asian wife standing where the ball joint used to be. That’s got to be a Ford.
Drill 1/8 inch n tap to put a ball lil grease fitting to grease it instead taking out the metal wire
I def prefer loctite as lube rather than grease especially on a stamped arm
That shits definitely useful if you forgot your kit at home... But c'mon bro don't tell me your a mobile mechanic without a ball joint press lmao. That's like 70 percent of the calls we even get lol
No i have knw but my truck was wrecked and in bodyshop and there closed on weekend
@@semperfimechanic I mean it worked lol but you can't beat being able to run em in with a impact though
@amanuelwordessa4057 oh hell no i Love my press. I was wore out after this job. It took me about 30 mins with press with the c clamp to get it flush
@@semperfimechanic yeaa man I know that shit sucked lol
I got a WJ with a 4.5 lift and used this method lol 😆....I used my torch to make it easy but it works rather quickly....I live in Colorado so no rust up here just dry rot since it's basically a mile high desert
Well it works, job well done.
I did the same thing because I didn't have a ball joint press kit!! What I DID have was a C clamp and a gate post cap😂😂 it was a major headache because it was 14⁰ outside. Wish I had come across this video 2 weeks ago when I was actually searching smh. Got the job done, but on my passenger side, I just replaced the whole lower control arm. It cost a bit more, but I just looked at it as a convenience fee🤷🏿♂️ Took that repair from a 9 hour trial and error physics calculation to a simple 3 hour step by step process.
Thank you for your service, assuming by your pfp, second, great video man!
Yes, sir. Im Retired From The Marine Corps and thank you
@@semperfimechanic I read your About, and I only wish nothing but blessings upon you, sir. Your selfless service will always be cherished.
Do you do any work on diesels? I need to do an injector pump for my gen1 duramax... any tips?
Little c-clamp saved my ass doing my daughter’s brakes. Best of luck and health to you in the future.
thanks Alex!
RIP fedsmoker you always were a cool guy
Sure went in in easy 😌
Why does it sound like this guy has a cigarette in his mouth the entire time he's filming?
Nice job
Thanks brother
You can borrow the press from any local auto parts store though if you leave a deposit.
I was going to do exactly this but was advised to but the kit and do it “properly”
Good shit mannice new hub and bearing along the way
In a world with no rust, far far away. Working on vehicles was so much easier.
What size socket was that ?
If you can press in a ball joint with a C clamp the arm is Worn out.😮😮😮. The hole is too big.😢😢😢
Raaaah good video boss god bless semper Fi
Just replace the whole control arm is easier and you get rid of those worn rubber bushings too😅
Greg "The Hammer" Valentine
What was that on a Nissan Sentra or no just wondering
Might have to do this on the 4 wheeler since the ball joints are smaller than my press is made for
It will work
Mans made his own press w a socket and a c clamp. Crazy
Wow, what vehicle is that? Looks really easy to work on
I always tac weld Balljoints that press into a stamped steel control arm.. cast iron not at all just press er in..
Lol! Try that on an old chevy! I've broke many clamps trying that! Not impossible but damn close!
Damn, you're not Fucking around. You even bought a new complete spindle with the bearing and wheel hub assembly already assembled. That's a huge time saver.
What was on the bottom of the ball joint while the squeezing was happening? If nothing then I want to see the bottom on the joint after pressing
I had a 36mm shallow socket on bottom. Its the same as using the cups that come in the actual press set
It works but can tear the a arm up easy doing that seen it happen many times and repaired that problem a few times as well
Definitely the way to go, if the clip goes on you don't need no press, like your style and vocabulary my guy!
My dude
That's how you do it after a few beers and a huge lunch
Wish they were all that easy. It’s easy on THAT arm… look how paper thin it is. It won’t always happen that simple on a beefier arm… wherein the ball joint is pocketed into something much more substantial... ie RSX, Regal, etc. Been here.. done this. They don’t always pop out like that.
My VW they are bolt on. 😊
good shit bro
Thank ya sir
I tried that on a grizzly in alaska.. ended up using a 1/4 of acetylene tank
Great job getting the job done but you should've got the tool from the auto parts store when you got the part. Gotta look professional if your working on someone else's car.
Nah
With 10g in tools you should have multiple snap ring pliers
As easy as that went in don't forget to do what Scotty Kilmer says and put a weld on it
Надо было снять пыльник и добавить невымываемой смазки, шаровые будут ходить в 2 раза дольше!!
You know if you stuck that ball joint in the freezer it would slide in no problem
When I got problems sliding it in a bit I called her pretty and she gives in
I remember when you had to drill out rivets to remove ball joints!!
Is this Alex Jones ? 😂
For anyone who knows that control arm is trash .. look how flowered out that control arm is therefore no need for press just like this situation , give it some time before that ball joint pops it self out the arm cuz it was not pressed properly!! there for getting its name ball joint press …. Think about it
All my years working on vechicals and it alot since my father was a mechanic. Never seen a ball joint go in that easy when it is started crooked .
Honda?
You don't spit on the rim of the hole first? So the tip goes in easier?
Good job bro
He has complete "control" of his "arm"
Right on
Respect for what u do..but what the hell kind of vehicle was that? Or was it a trailer?
idk alex jones was making car videos
Shoulda just put the jack under to press in and hit with bfh to get out????
Is it the same process when we're sober?...
His whole life is a grunt😂
Man I'm going to take all my Snap-on Master press ,and all the expansion packs ,and just throw them in the garbage ,and get myself a yard sale C-clamp now.
Now brother this shit only works if the lower control arm is so wore out that its flopping around lol
Exactly how I thought I’d do it 😅
Nice
Ol skool😊😊
I can hear the crybabies already "You cant do it like that, your supposed to do it with a press"! Well there's a million ways to do something, whatever gets the job done.
Perfect. Not everybody has $850 to spend on a specialty tool. Sockets work great.
Rental is free
where do u buy tools ? the tool needed is 50
I think it’s easier to drive to the auto parts store and use the loan a tool lol
It is but you still have to put down the $100 bucks to get it and yes you get the money back when your done but some people might not have the $100 to begin with
I never lubed mine I’m gonna try that next time
Yea makes it alot easier
I wish they were all that easy.
Nice work
You didn't use a press but used a C clamp as a press.
I'd like to see how he mangled that circlip back on
