I ordered my Fray in Venom a few days ago; I can't wait to see it built up. Yeah, its more than I ever wanted to spend on a bike, but it's the closest match to the perfect bike than anything out there, period. If I can enjoy it for 10 years, it will be a great investment. I'm hoping the downtube storage, tire clearance and higher stack will help it age well against future bike offerings. I do think ENVE has correctly predicted the features most of us retired racers and long ride smashers want to ride as our "first choice bike" and it's sure to be copied and offered at more affordable prices by others in the next 5 years. I couldn't afford it now, but I hope to run two wheelsets to get two bikes for one, SES 4.5s/29mm for mostly tarmac rides and SES 3.4s/38mm for my dirtier rides.
This bike... To me just shows how good the giant defy really is. Almost enve fray performance at a much lower cost!
Agree.
I agree with you in the slammed stem departement, I ride a Secan 54T with the taller headtube, but with a slammed stem, it looks awesome! By the by, I am still looking forward to the update on your Secan, no pressure there David ;-)
coming soon, honestly ;)
Once you build this bike up you'll have spent enough to buy a road bike and gravel specific bike from Giant, Canyon, etc.
How does it compare to the Open MI.ND you tested last year? Seems like a similar proposition to me.
Amazing video! I've ridden the Liege sportive but never Flanders. Love the bike as well!
LBL is a great ride, lovely around the Ardennes isn't it - You HAVE to ride Flanders next year!
I like it, virtually everything about it. I'd much rather ride something like this than a race bike, any day. these new endurance bikes are genuine quiver killers which is one of the best things you can say about a bike.
I was suppose to get the defy advance sl 0. Would you recommend this over that? Isn’t the defy lighter than this one? Thanks
Looks like a relaxed geo gravel bike with 2x to me. Nice lookng bike
Back in the day, this sort of thing was known as an 'old-man-comfort-bike'... just the thing for most riders these days then.
How does it compare to the BMC roadmachine? Both are positioned as endurance, will fit 38/400mm tyres, top-tube bosses, and have in-frame storage
Very nice offering- love the new design trends in modern endurance bikes.
David! this is gorgeous ~👌
Agree!
Got my order in! Can’t wait 🎉
How does it compare to the Synapse?
I am curious if it is faster than a Merida Silex...
no mudgard/fender options?
I'd classify this as simply perfect if that cables were not hidden inside the stem. I'd love this bike a do-it-all, including gravel. But my position in the road and on gravel changes. I want a more relaxed position in gravel. For that I'd need to swap stems. With the cabbles inside the stem... no luck doing that. Thus... it is no longer a do-it-all. It is a single purpose bike again
Looks great. Size 58 would be perfect for me. I think at that price, I would feel the need to baby it. My view of bikes has changed. Now, I believe buying middle quality, price, etc. And ride the hell out of it.
Getting your hands on the bmc roadmachine any time soon?
Might be taking it for a spin at Sea Otter next week - would hope on a longer ride but we'll see what they let me do
@@davidarthur Would be very intrested in your take on the new BMC Roadmachine 01 vs the Enve Fray vs The Giant Defy SL - whats the weight of the Fray build you tested? (Ah found it below 7,8 with Ultegra) Should be possible to go very close to 7 kg with a SRAM axs 1x12 build.
Love that. Wish I had the money! :(
The frame set only in Korea is 8,500,000KRW 😂 These companies are trying to outdo each other on how much they can charge! Specialized drive me crazy with their prices, but I could buy an SL8 Expert model (yes, I know it’s not an endurance bike, 7,900,000KRW) with an electronic group set and carbon wheels and still have money left over to buy a high end helmet and some clothing. Roubaix pro is 7,920,000KRW, again with money left over! I know I’m not their target audience, but they’re still dreaming! Some people have money to burn, I guess.
Not cheap, but I do like a lot of the features for how I usually ride.
Top end all rounder 😊
Did you weigh it with ultegra?
I did - 7.8kg
This would've been perfect as my next winterroad/gravelbike, but then I looked at the price!
I don't understand why you're not testing the Time ADHX / ADHX 45 - likely as good if not better?
I was speaking to them earlier this year about testing one and there was interest, but nothing has shown up. Let me check in with them. I am keen!!
@@davidarthur I'd love to see you review the ADHX and compare it to the Giant Defy and ENVE Fray. It seems like a top contender for an all-road bike that can do gravel.
@@davidarthur Sweet, it should be worth it!
I bought an ADHX in December which I'm using as an all-road with 32mm GP5000S and spec wise it's almost identical to this. It's a great compromise - I love the bike.
@@davidarthur I'd also love to see this. An ADHX has been on my list as an endurance replacement for my road bike for a while now. I'd love to see how the ENVE stacks up against the ADHX and even a Pinarello X.
It looks fantastic but the frame alone costs more than my mid-spec'd Roubaix.
Perfect bike for me. Just need to sell my car.
Riding in Flanders? I sleep
Riding in the Cotswolds? HELL YEAH
First models arrived in central Europe. 5995€ omg.
Ready for 220k more on it next week??
You bet! No cobbles I hope though!
@@davidarthur I don't believe any have been added, but there will be artichoke bread
I know this is a personal opinion, but I occasionally have to ride on cobbles in D.C. around Georgetown and parts of Northern VA. I f***ing hate it. Hate isn't even strong enough a word. I personally could never ride an event that is predominantly cobbles. My head would explode in anger, lol
Slammed stem sure, but that head tube height is not pretty either. There's a trade-off.
The price of the frameset is overkill, definitely a huge let down.
Were we surprised though?
@@jonpoon3896 given it is a not a well known frame builder, yes! Would you buy it?
Mate, it’s an Enve 😅 they aren’t even trying to market to people like us.
@@Ghost12561 just say you’re broke dog
@@cools5226 I have trek Madone SLR I race for a continental team. I dont think that a good bike for that price, you might as well buy canyon, that's almost a whole bike.
I like it, but I just can’t get past the price of these modern bikes. There is no rational justification for it. It’s becoming like high end hi-fi
Tyre widths are getting out of hand.
Looks honestly identical to any other race bike.
Amazing bike just for rich people. Maybe you can do reviews of more affordable new chinese brands like Winspace,Yoeleo, Seka, Ican,Tavelo, etc...Some famous brands have problems right now for cause of low sales and stupid huge prices.
No matter the price, an endurance/all road bike needs to have a round seatpost for me
Would never buy Enve kit here in the UK as the prices are ridiculously over inflated compare to the US. I mean why would you pay £3,350 for SES 4.5 wheels when they are €2,850 in the US. Thats without taking the exchange rate into account.
Yup we get lots of extra duty charges in the uk thanks to a certain event a few years ago, lucky us 🤯
Is it cheaper to buy in from US
Still no proprietary frame bag system as seen on the Canyon Grail and Trek Checkpoint makes not buying this easier!
Credit where credit is due, I applaud their effort for the downtube storage and the tool roll. Mounts for bento box would work great if they don’t rub against your knees as you go out of the saddle.
Price is a piss take
