    This lens is very sharp. Good review pointing out the benefits of this focal length range. Even in low light, closeup photo of my son, I was stunned at how sharp this lens is. His eye and eyelashes were absolutely sharp. Took photo with A7R3 so the extra pixels over the A73/4 really brings out the beauty of this lens. If I need a wider focal length I have either a Sigma 14-24 or a 20mm prime. I agree that the extra 35mm in the longer focal length is beneficial. 24 is great as is. The OSS really helps when shooting in low light.

      When is sharpness desirable though? Scientific/documentary photography/videography?

    When I first ordered my FX-6 I initially used my 24-70 f/2.8 but quickly realized I needed a more versatile focal range and with dual base ISO I knew I didn’t have to worry about losing 2 stops of light from F/4. I wound up picking this lens up a month after getting my FX-6.

    I shoot with a different mirrorless system and my most used lens is basically the same focal length, 24-120 f4. Agree with all your points. Such a versatile lens.

    Its a great lens and when I moved from Canon to Sony it was the focal length I went for. The only down side is that it is meant to be weather sealed, but mine recently broke during some fairly standard rain in Snowdonia and is now in for repair. But its worth repairing as nothing else comes close for the focal length, quality and weight.

    Been using 24-105 for years. Just bought 20-70 and that is a better standard lens IMO. 24 is simply not wide enough.

      Exactly man, wanted to write the same thing! I originally planned the 24-105. When I saw a comparison between the new 20-70 F4 and the said 24-105, the matter was clear.
      The new 20-70 is significantly sharper, has better dynamics, is smaller and lighter(!) The 20 at the bottom are more important to me than the 105 at the top.
      The 24-105 costs 799€ and the 20-70 1129€

    Was with Canon for 13 years..First lens I got when switching from Canon to Sony was this lens..I still have my Canon 5d mark IV I use it as a Bcam.. Spot on with everything you say. The Sony is much better than the Canon version.. So much crisper.. My go to lens. I just picked up the 16-28 sigma. It's pretty nice too.

    I just bought my first camera (A7 IV), I'll be backpacking for 6 months and I don't know if getting the 24-105mm or the 20-70 GM II to use any of them as my only lens. Money is not a problem but I don't know if while travelling I'd miss the extra 35mm that the 24-105 has compared with the 24-70. Any advice please??

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  Рік тому +1

      I have not used the 24-70 GM II but I've heard it's very very good. It really depends on the type of shooting you like to do. With the 24-70 GM II you would be losing that extra 35mm and OSS but you would be gaining the most recent technology in auto focus and the best glass quality. Really depends on what you value more in a lens. For some people the glass quality doesn't matter as much so long as it isn't bad. Tough decision

      I personally don't think it's too big for what it offers, but I'm probably used to it haha. Maybe not if you're looking for a compact setup. But otherwise it's great! Thanks for watching! I highly appreciate it!

    Do you think that the stabilization will be better than the 20-70mm f4 thanks to the OSS or lt doesn’t really matter anymore on cameras with active stabilization such as the A7IV?

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  Рік тому +1

      Everything helps so it would be better because of the OSS. As for how noticeable it would be if you're using a camera with Active stabilization I wouldn't be able to say. I'll have to do some test eventually

      @ivani6311 Рік тому +1

      @@HeartbeatsPhotography thanks, that that’s the only think that makes me hesitate. I like the 20mm and footage seems stable even without OSS but I want the shot to be as stable as possible and I also like the extra reach

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  Рік тому +1

      @@ivani6311 yeah it's a tough decision, if you're doing any serious video you should probably use a gimbal, in which case you probably would no longer be able to tell the difference. Not to say that you NEED a gimbal to get great video but it just depends on what you're doing. It really comes down to if you prefer the extra on the wide end or the telephoto end, & that just depends on preference and use. Good luck, either way have fun!

    From my point of view it is not worth the money paid. I just now have it in my hands next to my Tamron 28-75 2.8... and the photo quality of my Tamron is superior in sharpness and light. Furthermore, at least in Europe, you can find the Tamron for €650. The stabilization of this Sony 24-105 on a SONY A7iii does little of its job. Then it is very heavy and large. The only thing I appreciate compared to the Tamron is the 24mm versus the 28mm. stop

    • @HeartbeatsPhotography
      @HeartbeatsPhotography  Рік тому

      That's definitely a great option. I think the sony 24-105 still has some advantages because it's smaller, lighter, has optical steady shot, cheaper, and it's a native Sony lens so certain features will be supported with only Sony Lenses. But obviously that Tamron has it's advantages as well. Thanks for checking out my Channel! I appreciate it!

      I have got Samyang 35-150 2-2.8 and Sony 24-105 F4. In more situations Samyang is better, but for my trips I put S 24-105 F4 to the bag :) Its lighter weight, smaller dimensions, optical stabilization, and a wider end of 24mm make a big difference for me during trips.

    Well. On apsc sensors this is probably alright. On fullframe it’s soft in the corners, imo it’s like most other zooms mediocre. And another thing it’s heavily overpriced.
