What do you eat for breakfast?! Your energy, creativity and humour are outstanding! Are you having that much fun all day? Amazing. Many thanks for everything - I am learning a lot from you.
A bowl of Fruity Loops

a bottle of brandy ?
Pure crack. And by crack I mean a quick whiff of someone’s bum crack
Guy Michelmore has official become our favorite Music Production Uncle. I've been a fan for a while, now I'm a fan for life!
The upgrades in the key editor are INSANELY useful!
Downloaded and installing! :D Thanks for this Update Guy!
Thanks as always, Guy! Installed while watching :)
Range Tool in Key Editor is very useful for duplicating notes with time using shortcut. Select a bar and duplicate it so notes end up at coorrect possition instead of starting from the butt of the last note.
Hi Michelmore! I always appreciate your videos with your good vibes! please keep going. Greetings from Norway.
You’ve always been one of my favorites, now I think I’ll be getting more into cubase. That range selector tool looks useful for me. 🎹♥️
Many of these feature updates have been in Logic for years, and as someone who mostly uses Cubase these days, I’m really happy to see them added in.
Bro I don’t actually get people saying this feature was there in this daw or that daw.
Bro, cubase has always had all the ways for all the workflows, It’s just more official right now and more of better suggested changes.
I’ve always said you can be the best with any daw and it doesn’t matter. But when it comes to which daw actually know what its doing and it listens and its the most complete sht thing; then nothing beats cubase brother.
@@alidaneshkhahi4905 What a weird attitude. These are tools, not religious institutions. I’ve been annually upgrading Cubase since the days of the parallel port dongle back in 1997, bro, alongside Ableton Live and Logic to a lesser degree since around 2004, so I’m quite familiar with all of them. I like seeing all my favorite applications gradually evolve and improve with good, well established ideas and proven workflow features.
It's been ages! glad to see you! )
Upgrading from CB12 to CB13 would have been a no-brainer for me had they added Collapsable folder tracks and Movable tracks in the mix window. Available in the latest iteration of PT. Thank you for the in depth presentation Guy. Much appreciated.
4:24 In the old mixer you could long click on the "e" to open the instrument. Or just define a keyboard shortcut.
Welcome to my shed...thanks Guy, very informative as always.
Looked up The Birdie Song. I always called it the chicken dance song. It's one of the most requested songs for DJ-ing birthdays, weddings, drunken parties, and office celebrations. Must have in any DJ setup.
Great Video🎉
OK so, firstly - why the hell haven't I come across your channel before!? How outstanding to have someone with more than 34.33 minutes of actual real world experience writing and mixing music providing a channel like this! All joking aside - great review thank you - terrible song as you say but you have to admire the confidence of delivery 😆 - and consider me firmly subscribed! Great looking channel!
He's lovely and the channels great.
Something important is still at the routing level.
You can now send buses into tracks, auxes into tracks and that gives us many more possible combinations for hardware printing or simplified export methods.
Thanks for the video, is cubase trial version available? , It's my First time looking at cubase .
Many thanks for this! 👍
you're welcome
MIDI 2.0 is most important to me. Being able to record and edit drums and percussion as midi while preserving the instruments dynamic range is invaluable. Hopefully the midi 2.0 spec will consolidate all the current protocols and make it easier for developers to contribute.
Thanks for the look. I love all the windows in your studio but how the heck do you see the monitor!?! I have one window and the glare is unbearable!
Terrific video, Guy! I was wondering however, for people like me who use Logic AND Dorico, what competitive advantages Cubase has over Logic and vice versa, and if there is tighter integration between Cubase and Dorico. Unlike most people, I write in Dorico, and then refine in Logic. Would love to see a video on this topic!
thank you great video
You. Give me a lot of reasons not to upgrade. Thanks. I stay with Cubase 12 pro.
Right! Seems to be an update to lure new users in and not too much too make current users happy.
You’ll have to be ready to pay $200 for the upgrade then. I didn’t upgrade to 12 last year so I have to pay $200 to upgrade from 11 to 13.
@@akshaydabhadkarofficial5104 I know, worst case scenario, I'll stick with 12 for the rest of my life. And/Or maybe I'll upgrade when there is a sale.
ممتاز في تقديمك .... لقد احببت محتواك
Hv been using cubase since day one and nothing gona stop me ❤️💯
Thanks
I needed that, Guy 😆🥰
I noticed that there are decibel numbers on the individual channels in the mixer in 13 that are not in 12.
Guy, great video.
The whole digit upgrade song is hilarious!
Channel fader from sequoia/samplitude been there forever. Range tool corrected oversight.
All very good but, certain "simple" things I use every day have moved or changed to the point where I'm reading the help manual to find where they've put them 😱.
Looking forward to trying out the vocal chain.
Thanks for the video Guy - you're a true breath of fresh air. Ever thought of running for prime minister? 😎👍👍🎵
If you could only get Alexei Sayle to cover your Cubase song, you'd have a hit!
Although I have no plans to upgrade from Cubase Artist 12 it is good to know that the full version of Halion Sonic now comes as standard
with Cubase plus you also get Iconica Sketch. For the first 6 years of using Cubase Artist 7 ( which I got when it came out ) Halion Sonic SE
was my main VST rompler as back then the full versions of Halion Sonic/Halion were far more expensive compared to the last few years.
I was fortunate enough to get Halion 6 at 50% discount in May 2019 plus when Halion 7 came out I went for the £85 upgrade so I have Cubase
Artist 12, Halion Sonic 3 and Halion 7. But if and when the time ever comes that I need a new computer I could settle for Halion Sonic and do
without the Halion 4 Factory library and stuff like the sampler and FM lab.
Hmmm 12.5. Thanks for the vid!
Amazing. Does anyone know if Steinberg fixed Automatic Quantize which only quantize 100% (very few instruments should ever be quantized at 100%). The logical thing would be to link AQ to soft quantize as well. I am aware of all the other options: midi insert percentage quantize, logical editor note position and quantizing with soft quantize after recording. All of these have its place, but AQ linked to Soft Quantize would be the quickest workflow option in my opinion. Always moving forward with less distractions.
*I'd only upgrade if it included the Full Version of Groove Agent 5. Honestly, all Pro versions should include the full version of GA-5 imho. Nothing else in this upgrade is note-worthy. I already paid $600 for CB12 now they want another 100 bucks, which totals to $700.* 👈🏾
Some DAW makers give *lifetime free updates* 🤷🏽♂️ it's Highway Robbery.
I'm curious about the acoustics of your studio with all that windows / crystal surrounding the speakers
This guy is so awesome ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh woopee, a channel strip on the arrange page, now what DAW had that in 2011?
Bravo!!!
How did you color the track? I’m having a hard time figuring that out
Got it 1/2 hour ago, my problem from 12 is fixed!!!! After the last update I could get no Audio into it from synths/mics no matter which interface I used……. Seems to work now with 13 BUT I have grown to like the simplicity of Logic so, I may just play with cubase now and then
Good video. My first one was cubase vst32 version 5 back in 2000. Bought it for 700$ back then. Ive Kept upgrading . I got my dongle broken once. But i manage to get one back and got it running a week later😅 i learn pro tools and cubase at trebas audio school and i prefer cubase by far. I tried many daw but always come back to cubase. It just feel better for me
I am currently upgrading my Cubase from Cubase Artist 12 to Cubase Artist 13. I can't wait to dive deep into the new features!
Also you have earned a new subscriber.
I approve of this song! Are you going to release it as a single or a concept album?
Awesome
So I am not seeing a big reason to upgrade. As a hobbyist, the main reason I moved from Reaper to Cubase was the ability to more easily/seamlessly record multiple takes and easily piece together parts of takes in to one final take. That and its ability to add external midi devices such as keyboards. Not sure I see much improvement for those areas? Question is, when Cubase 14 comes out, can I upgrade for the $99 to that from 12 Pro?
I guess so. Don't wanna lie to you, but you can even upgrade now from Cubase 10 to 13 if I'm not mistaken.
No, it is going to be twice as much, look at the upgrade page they have, for 11 and under it is $199 as of now.
Yes, but is more expensive.
They usually have a sale around 6-9 months after release with 40-50% discount on upgrades.
@@lonnleaf Damn.. so if I skip now and pay for 14 upgrade same price as if I upgrade now and upgrade to 14 when it comes out.
So why will Version 13 be remembered? Simply cos anyone who buys anything thats Midi2 compatible in the "distant" future will know any version after v13 supports it !! As for the rest? Nothing much except the plugins and you know what we all think of that, oh no not more plugins. I like the fact they moved PAN down to be above the faders but nothing much else.
Final thoughts? Should have been a update not upgrade
No demo this time? I'm considering getting this through Splice's rent-to-own but would love a decently long demo. I mean I don't need three months like the last version had, but a month would be good.
FINALLY! FINALLY! Cubase added the visibility tab to the key editor. Took them long enough damn!
Importing via a project has also been improved.
For example, you have a bass track in your session and you want to use the same parameter that you used on another project. So you select import track from a project you select the bass, but the difference compared to before is that you can apply it directly to the chosen track of your session, therefore the bass. Before he just imported it and created a new "bass" track.
I hope to make myself understood with my English google translate ;)
Some nice improvements, but I've already moved to Studio One 6.5. Steinberg took way too long to upgrade their tired GUI.
twisted intro...I love it
Fan always you just do it your way which we all love don't stop
will leave it until at least 13.2 just so someone else has the pleasure of all the initial bugs first. Quite happy on 11 at the moment, may go to 12 first, especially as I'm on an old MacPro.
That opening song really was something.
Yo you’re bad, I love it, so much joy!
Wow, definitely some nice features for newer producers! Really feels like they want to up the competition with Logic
13? I never got around upgrading to 12 yet. 😬
Where is mp4 import, reset recent files list, trackpad pinch zoom, expression maps update, folders with bus function, gapless audio, drag and drop to save track presets...
Okay, held off getting 13. First person to show the sample track. Yeah Im in.
Interesting, Guy! Must resist... 😅 A couple months ago I upgraded to Nuendo 12 to work in 7.1.2 for a planetarium film, and it's like Cubase, but on steroids. 😃
I figure in a couple months N13 will be out :) Im on N12 as well !
TG a Dom Sigalas alternative to showcase C13 in style😇
I was going to say those are not just the sunglasses of doubt, but the golden sunglasses of doubt.
I am expecting the song to be in the top 10 by Christmas.
Ho Ho HO
I am using FL Studio but does Cubase have free updates like Image-Line? : )
To my knowledge, nope. FL Studio FTW my friend
@@RAM_845 Yeah, i'll use that for a long time, maybe all the time. It's amazing! :)
Yes, but only for minor versions, which are basically bug fixes. But there is a student discount and a discount for anyone with a diability.
"The Sunglasses of Doubt" is a priceless phrase
Seems like the biggest change is a bit less bevel on the buttons? I think I will skip this upgrade, but great walkthrough as always! 😀
The changes are wayyyyy deeper and more useful than that ..... :-)
The changes have been long time coming and incredibly functional. I guess if you're only a producer it's not a huge update but if you score this is great! Personally, though, the flatter design doesn't look that great...
LOL - I agree. As usual, 'designers' have to CHANGE something to justify their existence, and thus ruin the user experience by making everything 'flat' and more difficult to use. When will this bullshit ever end? What was wrong with beautiful, skeuomorphic buttons? "Oh, they're so 'last year', I just can't stand them..."
@@johnthomas338 So its not only me then! I actually prefer the look of Cubase 4.... 😁
@@Flat8G And you can bet your bottom dollar that in a few years' time, everybody will be trying to make everything skeuomorphic again, because it's 'different', not because they think it's better. (It IS better, but that won't be the reason these idiot 'designers' are doing it.)
Dodgey Vox!!! Amazing
Holy Moly that song is BAD!
lol MY EARS
By the way, I really like how you're explaining the changes in depth, Guy. The channel tab sounds incredible! I hated opening the "e" button every time I needed to adjust the volume of a track. (And I don't like using the inspector.) So this new channel tab will come in very handy!
And "I hope she doesn't realize I'm a shocking bass player"... LOL
I'm sure Cakewalk has the channel strip for each track down the left hand side... 👍🏼
Bitwig, too: but good to see Cubase are trying to keep up, I guess. Not a hundred quid good, but hey ho....
This upgrade isn't the most significant for sure, I upgraded earlier, the GUI isn't to everyone's taste, I personally like it, but I was fine with the previous one too. If you are on 12, unless you know a particular new feature/improvement would help you a lot, you can skip it and wait for v14.
I only upgraded as I was having lots of crashes with v12 (glad it happened to Michael too ;p). Unfortunately, also experiencing some instability with v13 (duplicating instrument tracks seems to cause a crash often), raising it with Steinberg.
Check your RAM, I had that same issue, many crashes for numerous, different things. I had 2 identical computers, except the RAM was different, and it would run on 1 and crash on the other.. Bought new RAM, installed and it has not crashed since. Just food for thought.
Yeah, I get crashes when I'm running low on memory.
wow you are a song and dance man LOL. Thanks for this review. I'm excited about it.
There's none better on UA-cam 😊
Finally, a less biased , steinberg brown nosing video. Im still uncertain if I wanna upgrade, its certainly overpriced for a 12.5 update.
Multipoint touch for the sliders yet😢?
I used v1.0 when it came out on the Atari ST.... :)
Some folk are still using it. I still have the floppy disk from 1992.
YOUR SONG IS THE BEST " A WHOLE DIGIT UPGRADE " DESERVES AN OSCAR !!!
Better than Ableton 12 update for sure. As soemone who uses both DAWs. I was very disappointed with Ableton Update considering the price. The new plugins ans Iconica sketch is well worth the Upgrade price for me with Cubase 13. Abletone could have added ARA integration and done more with the browser tbh. And of course saving asd files in project file location rather than the sample location. I really hate that about Ableton. Cubase 13 is worth the price they are asking.
Magix Samplitude also has an option for a mixer on the side of the layouy. So it's not just Reaper.
Oh look, a little channel strip on the left-hand side. If only Logic had that! Oh, hang on…😂😂😂😂
For me, upgrading from cubase 10 for $140 seems worth it. 🎹♥️
This is a .5 upgrade at best - should be v12.5, but now they can charge £85 for the update privilege.
I think Cubase was already at 12.6 or 12.7?
It's currently 12.0.70 - which is not even 12.1. The main trouble is they just pad the updates out with more EQs, compressors, other plugins we already have by other vendors, or soundpacks. They should concentrate on making the DAW better inline with requests from forum contributors. On top of this, the next release will presumably be Cubase 14, and for some of us who may want to skip this v13 update, we'll just end up being asked to spend double next time! As usual, it's the existing customers paying for the support of the product to improve each time for new customers to be enticed.

It’s strange that on Steinberg’s website and in the new features guide, it shows Cubase in full screen mode on a Mac, which’s something it can’t do. The menu bar is always there! Just about every other DAW supports full screen mode - and I know 99.9% of Cubase users use multiple monitors, so may not want it - but I do wish they’d support it. Showing images making it look as though it does is rather misleading. Otherwise, another fantastic update.
Hell, I can't get it to run on my MacBook pro. It installed, but when you try to open it, it stops while scanning the plugins. And l can't get a refund from Steinburg
Ah, a "whole digit upgrade", at first I heard "a whole b*tchin' upgrade". :D :D :D Cheers Guy!
Cubase\Nuendo crashes because, if your computer is fairly up to date at least i7. Whatever you have connected to your computer will affect your computer. So, if you have dimming audio for no reason, then there is a cross in circuits which will effect your daw if connected to your computer. I personally connected multiple audio jacks to one rca left and right. that was a mistake and makes the signal degrading. Looks like you have something connected to your computer that is hotwired aka crossing negative and positive are touching. Or something in that nature. Cubase is now a days good at not crashing. UVI Falcon use to crash when dragging it in but now i fixed the Sansui mixer by removing other connected from 2ed pc and used the audio out with double male 8' audio wires instead of 8' to rca to mixer. Not sure now how to record the eq\mixer. its more of a eq really. to tape. i need zedi10 allen&heath with built in interface.
😮 0:48 😎
I always suspected Guy beeing related to Cher. Now I know :))
Ha ha, brilliant. I thunk your videos are great. Avid watcher. 😎
Yes - it's bad! [the song] So what's wrong with the Birdie song then? Your intro had me laughing for a good second or two. Entertaining video. There's always RTFM!
Not the worst song, not by a longshot! ;)
was the intro song necessary🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hm. I wonder why Steinberg is completely silent about this. Not a single e-mail "HEY UPGRADE NOW!" Are you sure this is for real? :) :)
They should simplify and make it look more like logic easier on the eyes…but hopefully the changes keep coming!
Why would they change the interface when it's what people are used to for ages? That''s like putting the steering wheel in the back and reversing control direction.
@@magicmulder That's that kind of dilemma many software has: If your GUI grows organically over the years it tends to get cluttered, as new concepts sometimes dont fit in the old raster and end up in many or non-intuitive places. But on the other hand you can't make radical changes as you woul lose the experienced users of previous versions.
The song is great!!
still no possibility to use 32 bits plugins ?
The dropped 32 bit support in version 12.
