    This looks great! Another great tip for the fries: after you boil them, toss them in a bowl with coarse grained salt. This creates a rough texture on the outside of the chip that fries up super crispy.

    I had previously tried cooking fish and chips at home to disasterous effects. Today I tried this recipe. It was perfect. My family said "it was the best fish and chips they'd ever had". Thank you for this simple yet wonderful recipe.

    Other English recipe variations use turmeric and even curry along with beer in the batter. Ive tried them both together, absolutely lovely.

    Love it! I would only start by frying the potatoes first so that they don't get a fishy taste but that is my paranoid me speaking

      I was thinking the same thing. I love peas but it's not something I would think of eating with fried fish. Now I have to try it

    Make sure to not use bitter butter because that will make your batter bitter.

      +Just Curious correct. fish gets greasy when the oil isnt hot enough and the oil gets chance to soak into the fish

    Will chips smell like a fish? Would it be better to fry firstly chips and then fish?

      I personally think its better to use the same oil, and the chips wont be fishy as the batter stops the fish from making the oil smell.

      it's fish and chips, does it really matter is the chips slightly smells of fish?
      Also from personal experience the chips shouldn't smell like fish.

      You are also right... Fish smelled chips wouldn't kill anyone, but still.. if you can prevent that :D I would rather fry chips first :)

    That ain't mushy peas. That's ever so slightly squashed peas. For me the whole point is to dip my chips in the MUSHY peas. Probably why I like to add a dollop of sour cream.

      BF31 Fish & chips is considered a British thing. However, it is conceptually quite Northern European.
      The difference is that in the UK, it is a specific set ensemble.

      +SkitHertz it's nearly impossible to get an accurate volume to weight conversion, especially with dry ingredients like flour. Always use metric weight for the best and most consistent results.

      In Nederland komt dit inderdaad in de buurt van Lekkerbek. Kibbeling is gemaakt van kleinere stukken vis (traditioneel overigens van kabeljauw wangen). Thnks for watching

    Going to give this a shot. Couple of minor questions: 1. temperature of oil at 190 Celsius - is this necessary or can we work at a lower temperature? Found some variance with several chefs teaching. 2. Vegetable oil - there's no hard rule for the volume, as long as it can submerge the fish / chips. Correct?
