- The Google Pixel 6a is available and joins the lineup alongside the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Pixels are always known for their amazing cameras and computational photography, especially on their budget line.
However, the Pixel 6a still uses the older camera sensor compared to the new sensors on the 6 Pro. So will this older sensor still keep up with the latest?

There is a lot of hate out there regarding the new 6a (thanks to the usual review suspects)...but I could not be happier with my new 6a. To get a flagship phone at a mid range price (got mine for $149 including new Pixel Ear buds + trading in my Pixel 3aXL)...is just amazing. Thanks Google and IMO the haters will be believers in 3 months or less.

It is fine for $150 when you tradein and stuff. It just should have been a little more regardless. Pixel 7s gonna be butchered again imho because google is incompetent asf. Ruined p6 lineups too. Hopefully they dont but it doesnt look good

Excellent review of 2 really nice phones, Google's software is so good, that it makes up for the hardware difference between the phones, excluding the Pro's zoom lens. I want to upgrade from my Pixel 5 and reviews like this are important. Lots of details in your video, must have been a lot of work post-production. Great video. FYI That subtle shake of pressing the volume rockers as a camera shutter actually makes a difference...
I like to use the 2 sec timer and the power button as shutter, it works

Hi, I just ordered my 6a and your informative and well-produced video gave me good information. I was hoping that the camera performance would not be too much inferior to the 6 and 6 pro devices. I am replacing a galaxy a20 which has an absolute garbage camera. I am on a tight budget, and was trying to choose between the 6 and 6a. The camera was my main concern because I take a lot of videos of my new cat. Based on your footage, I think I made the right choice due to not caring about the difference in screen size, ram, refresh rate, etc.

Did you encounter any overheating with the 6a? I'm currently using the 3a and will be switching over to it soon. I expect the similar impressive quality of the photos.
Yes, I experienced overheating on my 6a as soon as I booted it up, but since then it is not too often or uncomfortable, When charging with high power charger, I've experienced overheating.
With the pixels now coming with better sensors they need to add a pro camera feature.

BestBuy has the 6a on sale for $299. It's a bit of a no-brainer to get the 6a now and then either resell or trade it in when the 7a comes out if it ends up being a meaningful upgrade.
6a camera is basically as good as the p7 camera, if not better (I know this vid is comparing the 6pro). colour temp is nicer imo. great stuff from the 6a. sadly Google have hamstrung the p7. pixel binned the 50mp sensor n over processed the pics. they should be aiming for less processed dslr-like photos like the mi 12s ultra & x90 pro+ are. that's the future in my opinion.
pixel 6a and all the older pixels that used the 12mp sensor are / were great. the new hardware needs a change of approach.
Was waiting for this one! Some of the pixel 6a images look better. But when zoom in they look blurry

The " older sensor" that every ' tech influencer ' dismissed as "too old" and that "couldn't possibly hold up against the competition" has had its sweet time in Google's hand to allow for perfect tuning through Google camera post processing...
Also, keep in mind that zoom always looks great because of Google's Super Res Zoom technology
Imagine once google "nails" the post processing on the almost 1 inch sensor on the 6/6pro's processing. ;)

I don't know if I should be impressed with the 6A or disappointed with the 6 Pro.
A phone with 5 year old camera technology standing it's ground when compared to a phone which has camera technology that just launched is....something..
It just shows how optimized the older sensor is and paired with the tensor chip just speeds everything up as well. But when you zoom in, the 6 pro shots will still retain more detail and the RAW files are easier to work with.
Google is good with its computational photography. Google has been doing the "magic" using that Sony sensor for years since the Pixel 2. Imagine that. The sensor is well optimized. Give the new 50mp sensor a bit more time, in the future it will be better

On android, the pixel devices are pretty much as best as it gets for social media integration. Then samsung. Unfortunately iphones are just still better optimized there.

The Pixel 6a is just like every other budget series phone from Google. Nice still camera images, but terrible (almost unusable) video quality. There's no comparison here when you factor in video as a camera function.
The 6a is fine for its price point, but the 6 and 6 Pro were massively discounted right before the 6a launch so the price difference isn't as much of a factor as previous years.
