    I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado that keeps overheating after I accidently left the cap loose and it blew off and the truck got hot. I replaced the cap the water pump and have replaced two thermostat and still nothing. I don't think its the head gasket because there isn't coolant in the oil. And when you crank it up it doesn't shoot coolant out of the reservoir I have also tried burping the coolant system. I don't the no it's the radiator but that will most likely be my next step in trying to fix it. Can you tell me anything to help thanks.

    Hello Robert my father's lancer had a head gasket leak so our mechanic replaced the gasket and resurfaced the head.All of that happened because of overheating problems before.So anyway our mechanic insisted we should change the radiator too cause he thinks it's faulty.We couldn't afford that,so we drove the car with the old radiator which supposedly is broken but really the temperature is steady no overheating no leaks and the radiator seems to be doing fine and coolant does circulate without any problem.Should I really change it or he just tries to scam me any ideas?.Sorry for the long comment.

    Some times I have to completely fill up both the rad and the reserve tank every day, or even after a few hours of straight driving. It leaks that much, you could watch it leak at a light, it’s gotten to the point where I have two gallons of coolant/water mix in my trunk. Hope it’s not a water pump but it seems like it. 2007 Accord V6 Auto - 110K

    Hello Robert, thank you for an informative video. I have a 2000 Toyota corolla 1.6i, and when we went into our hot summer weather - I noticed a bubbling /boiling sound. Took it to the mechanic and the said the reservoir was empty (I had topped it the week before) they filled it and I booked it in next day. I thought the reservoir bottle was cracked because I saw water under that area of car that evening when I got home. They changed the radiator cap, flushed the radiator, and checked thay the fan was kicking in, and they cleaned the pipes. It did help, however when I drive it it still tends to leak out that little hole or vent on the reservoir bottle. If I do a lot of driving on a hot day when I stop that's when it leaks out that little hole. I'm topping the reservoir bottle every week, my Mechanic and my brother tell me this is normal because the coolant in the radiator expands and goes into the reservoir bottle and if it's too full it comes out that little hole /vent at top of reservoir - if this is true why has it only start doing this I've had the car for 15yrs and it's never done this before... What do you think it is. The car doesn't over heat /temperature gauge even when really hot stays consistent and fan comes on if necessary. Would appreciate your advice as I'm worried there is something more serious happening and no one is taking me seriously (including the mechanic - who has always being fantastic) - thank you

      As explained in the video, the coolant can be tested for exhaust gases. Have that done.

    Hi i have a 2012 Audi Q5 3.2L my car was throwing a cooling system performance code so the mechanic replaced T stat, water pump, heater core valve, and Sensor. The heat was worked fine after replacing heater core valve but after i went to the car wash i let the AC run and maybe after an hr the hose blew off on the bottom hose and all the coolant fell out and now the heat or AC isn't working. The mechanic fixed the hose and no overheating but car still throwing that same code .. do you think this could be from a failing radiator or do these symptoms sound like it could be something else?

    Hey Robert,
    thank you sir for the videos - they have served me well while working on my 1998 V70R Manual ..
    I have recently brought a C70 T5 1998 manual also - yeah I love the manual and hold their price better :)
    but I do have a slight problem that leads me to a fault radiator , but your advice would be great to.. the car runs extremely well considering it's a 18 year old car but once the car is warm before giving her some boost the temperature only starts to raise 2 notches off before it hits the first red bar , I instantly pull over wind down my windows and blast up the heating . once doing that the temperature drops back down to normal operating temps (3 o'clock) and remains there if I keep her steady and lay of the boost ...
    thermostat will be changed for a new one and a fluid flush (dirt cheap items be criminal not to) but if the problem remains it has to be the rad not cooling the water down hence the overheating at high speeds?? am I right or wrong ?
    the car was brought dirt cheap for a manual T5 , 105,000 on the clock , the engine runs / sounds well even when it shows its overheating and again the symptoms above only started recently...

    My car has been recently overheating a lot. I took it to a mechanic and he said my head gasket's blown, and I'll have to replace the cylinder heads and replace the radiator because it's cracked. I took it to Midas the next day and they said it's only a cracked radiator because the oil has no milky texture in it, so the head gasket's fine. I think im goimg to go with the radiator but whose word do you think i should take? I have an '06 Kia Spectra5.

    Hi Robert. I have a 2000 cadillac deville that I bought with a blown head gasket. Muffler man told me it was apparent that they had put something in the coolant to fix whatever the problem was, unfortunately it didn't work. So In November of last year i decided to just replace the engine, but after I replaced the engine and the thermostat, the car still overheated. So I gave up on it until about two weeks ago. Mind you, by this time the car had been sitting for about 10 months. So I replaced the starter, which got it running again, but the car was still overheating. So I replaced the 4 gaskets between the throttle housing and the engine, AND replaced the water pump. I let the car warm up to normal operating temp, THEN let it idle for about thirty minutes and it doesn't overheat. But less than five minutes into driving it begins to overheat rapidly. So my question is, could a bad radiator be the culprit for this problem? Also, do you thing the thermostat could've went bad from sitting for so long? I'm low on funds and don't know what my next move should be. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  7 років тому

      If the coolant mix right? Are you sure it is overheating? How hot are the hoses to the radiator, top and bottom? Does the fan work?

    • @pressplay7752
      @pressplay7752 7 років тому

      +Robert DIY Yes sir, I bought concentrated coolant and diluted it myself, so I'm positive it's the right mixture. Both cooling fans are operating during idle and driving, and once the car has overheated they even stay on for a minute or so after I park the car. The top radiator hose is firm and hot to the touch, I'm not sure about the bottom hose scene as I can't reach it.

    • @pressplay7752
      @pressplay7752 7 років тому

      +press play I bought the engine used, so I was worried about that this one may have a blown head gasket as well, but it seems like it would overheat even when at idle if it was a blown head gasket. Plus there's no cream on the oil cap.

    I have a 2004 Chrysler Sebring V6 2.7L Its been driving fine for a week and the other day the temp gage went a little bit above the middle line then the car shut off. I popped the hood and noticed the anti-freeze in the plastic reservoir bubbling. Soon as the car cools down, it starts, i drove home, popped the hood and it was bubbling again. It didn't do that all week. Weathers been the same all week 103-107 degrees. Never overheated or wanted to til now. The hose from the radiator to engine is hot so that tells me the thermostat isn't closed. What could be the problem? Thanx.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  9 років тому

      Tazh702 Not really sure. Is the cooling fan working? A thermostat can be broken and not opening all the way. Bubbling could mean it has a blown head gasket. If the vehicle has a sealed, pressurized system, you should NEVER open the bottle cap when the car is hot/warm.

    My 2000 honda accord ex 2.3 liter just suddenly started leaking coolant just last night, the only reason I noticed was because I poped the hood open to check on the fluids (oil, steering fluid, brake, and coolant), I have checked the lower coolant hose and it doesn't seem cracked nor is it leaking from the hoses, it is coming more from the radiator not the main body (if you will) but the upper surface, around the cap. If anyone has some suggestions or info I would appreciate it.

    Thanks for this video. My car was overheating. at 173K miles and a 9 year engine. After flushing the radiator it worked for a day before it overheated again.
    we were afraid it was a head gasket as there seemed like there was light oil in there. but did not have other head gasket failure clues We figured we might change the thermostat.
    After removing the thermostat we decided to change the water pump and radiator as well
    after inspection, the radiator seemed to have big wet spots towards the bottom and small wet spots between the plastic. We also realized it has a transmission fluid for in and out at the bottom of rad.
    After watching this video I will definitely flush the transmission fluid as well after all is done.
    BTW OBD2 scanner came back with an issue with the coolant sensor. Could that have caused the coolant to overflow as well?

Well when i got the left lane i heard a loud pop like a gun shot and pulled into the closest place i could. I looked under my car and it was leaking very bad. Can you flush a clogged radiator? I don't have signs of overheating, however my coolant overflow/recovery reservoir was clogged. I noticed that it never fluctuated and it always had the same amount of coolant in it even when the radiator was low on coolant. The whole hose was clogged with debris and the reservoir had clumps of debris in the bottom of it. This leads me to think I may be better off just replacing my radiator then chance overheating my engine.

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  9 років тому +1

      Twiztidguy Drain the radiator, disconnect the lower hose and run a water hose in the top. If you get a nice flow through the bottom you should be fine. It is very rare to have sludge in the motor or radiator since it always flows with hot pressurized coolant. The reservoir on the other had usually does not circulate coolant. They also sell coolant system flush at most auto part stores.
