Yes, he was emotional. Everything Elvis sang was filled w-emotion -- even his upbeat songs. He sang w-emotion & passion like no one else; it came from him out to us here & we could all feel it, that's how strong it was. The explanation about the perspiration was just to let you know under what conditions he was performing when he did concerts -- it was amazing that he was able to stand up & do what he did for so long, night after night.
@@marybrant9586 Yes, it's wool gabardine w-satin lining & the fabric was of a stretch material so he could move -- the same stretch fabric ice skaters wear. The pull-over tops of his 2-piece outfits for Vegas in '69 were stamped inside w-little crowns -- you can see one of the suits on "Gates of Graceland: Las Vegas 1969." The tops had a hidden zipper on the side so he could get into & out of them -- in white, navy & black.
Perspiration. His jumpsuits were extremely warm, the huge house lights shining down on him are mega hot, plus the hot stage lights glaring up at him. He had painful glaucoma & those lights were very hard on his eyes. He had emergency in-office eye surgery in the mid-seventies & it's been said that had he lived longer he would have gone blind. THAT RAMP from the STAGE: Producer/director Marty Pasetta told Parker he wanted to build a ramp for Elvis to walk out onto & Parker said no. Even though Pasetta explained that it would be 8 ft. wide & Elvis could stay in the middle or go to the left or to the right if he wanted to because Pasetta knew how important the audience was to Elvis, Parker stll said no. Fortunately, Pasetta was able to meet w-Elvis & he explained exactly what he told Parker. Fortunately again, Elvis overrode Parker & told Pasetta to build the ramp. Paseta told Elvis he wanted him to lose 25 lbs., which Elvis did. Elvis then hugged Pasetta & said you are one of the few people who has been totally honest w-me. Without that ramp the concert would have been very different if Elvis did not have the option to get in close touch w-the audience. Trilogy is a medley of three uniquely American pieces: “Dixie,” (dixie are the states down south in the U.S.); “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War; and “All My Trials,” a Bahamian (people of the Bahamas) lullaby related to African American spirituals sung by protesting folksingers of the 1950s.
…What a voice! …Phenomenal!! ... He has everything a singer needs: GOOD LOOKS, HUMOR, SEXY, a stunning VOICE... and above all an incredible CHARISMA!! ... He is still unsurpassed today and a singer for eternity!! ✨💎✨🕺🏻🕯 Thank you
Sweating. Hawaii heat, stage lights, cameras, music equipment, overhead lights..and wearing a suit that weighed about 70 lbs for the entire concert while he was very active on stage.
Elvis was very Patriotic. His costume represented the red, white and blue of our flag and the American eagle( symbol of our country) That’s why he served in the military!
There are many songs for Elvis. He sang like no other with depth and soul. If you watch his videos enough you will see how much of himself, he put into his singing. Thats why even after all these years no one will compare to him. He sweat like crazy with everything he wore and the heat from the stage lights. I was born in 1970 but got to experience his music through many of my mom's records. She loved to listen to him. And it did not take me long to learn once you fully understand him and hear him, he was beyond all of us. He was on another level. I'm sure there are many people that can give you suggestions of songs to listen to. But for me there are too many to list. But as far as I'm concerned, the one performance that will always stand out was " Unchained Melody from 1977 rapid city or Indianapolis, my mom died 2 nights ago. This is for her love of the man who could sing anything.
The significance of the three songs relate to the Civil War 1861 -1865 between the Northern States vs the Southern States over the issue of slavery, Dixie is a song from the South, Battle Hymn of the Republic (Glory, Glory, Hallelujah) is from the North, Hush Little Baby is a Spiritual song sung by Slaves. The American Trilogy.
This song is a tribute to the north and south during the Civil War followed by the third song a Bahamian lullaby. Such a beautiful song 🎶. My favorite, sung with power and might reflecting the strength of the Union. Elvis felt his music and directed his singers and orchestra in all of his songs. The 👑
You often see a different side of Elvis, as he was so versatile and could flawlessly switch from one genre to another, or one mood to another. His shows were full of surprises. He was sweating, not crying. That jumpsuit weighed 70 pounds without the cape, over 100 with the cape.
Yes, the weight of the jumpsuit. Plus, people forget, stage lights & spotlights, are incredibly hot. And also, there's more than 10,000 people in a small arena in warm Hawaii, and in 1973, not sure it had air conditioning. Add all that up...definitely sweating, and probably not the only one. Haha.
1973 my uncle went and bought the biggest TV he could get. And took it to my granny's house. Family and friends came to watch the king. Tx. Good night Graceland
THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS❤️ Elvis inspires you to be a better human being❤️ You bring me and other Elvisfans a lot of Joy and Love❤️ Welcome to the Elvisfamily..It is filled with LOVE and FUN❤️😉
Ive never though about this before, but as much as Elvis loved the stage and laid his heart and soul into every song for the fans, that man suffered out there for his art. With the Glaucoma he suffered, the thousands of flash bulbs and blinding stage lights as soon as he stepped out on stage must have been so painful. The jumpsuits weighing up to 100 pounds saped his strength. Then his energetic dance moves and intense performances put his body under huge stress. He was completely drained after every show. So many songs sound so good, the band alway on point and tight, and with Elvis’s passionate delivery and amazing vocals most times the live performances were better than the studio cuts, not too many artists you can say that about and I've seèn many of the best! And to think he did more stage performances than eny artist ever, its astounding he lived even his short life of 42 years. The man put too much out there for us. Very sad.
Thanks for your reaction. Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (ua-cam.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/v-deo.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

"The Battle Hymn of the Republic" - a marching hymn of the Union Army during the American Civil War, and "All My Trials" - a Bahamian lullaby related to African American spirituals and widely used by folk music revivalists
A song about America's Civil war to secure these words" we believe these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal by their creator " Dixie combined with battle Hym of the republic! Abraham Lincoln's favorite song!🇺🇸🗽🇺🇸
Yes, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" was his favorite but he also liked "Dixie", saying "I have always thought 'Dixie' one of the best tunes I have ever heard".
Fact is Elvis had blue eyes and dirty blond hair. The Cherokee Indian heritage was not publicly known but that’s what made him so beautiful. High cheek bones, beautiful skin color. Can’t get better than that.
Elvis was born on a frosty morning in the south. He was a very emotional performer always in tune with his people on stage. Elvis could do any genre of music and make you feel it in your heart. Thanks for growing his legacy with your reactions.
It's called sweating the spotlights were old style they put off a ton of heat. That's why he stopped using the black leather and went to while light colored fabric the crotch of his outfit is designed like his karate outfit because he kept splitting his pants especially the leather pants from his 68 comeback Christmas special.✌️❤️
Elvis was a consummate professional and would never have cried on stage. Why would he not be sweating under all thos3 lights, the suit and the occasion?
The song was about the American Civil War. He is sweating not crying. Elvis was executive producer of his music. He directed everyone in this song. Dixieland was the south. Elvis sang everything from gospel to opera. Elvis had a 3 octave range. He sang everything with passion. Please do "Walk A Mile in My Shoes". Vegas 1970. Elvis was a civil rights innovator. See how he fought in the racist 50's for black artist. In that era white stations would not play black artist until Elvis changed that see. " Elvis Presley and the black community". I am 80 I lived it thanks and Be Blessed
Elvis was the executive producer of the songs he sang? Seriously? In order to produce music you must know how to read write and play music, since Elvis could not do any of these things it never happened, maybe in you head it did, but in reality, NO!
This song is about the civil war. The south wanted to keep slavery, the north did not so they went to war over it. Can some one remind me where Elvis was from?
While a specific type of glaucoma can cause the eyes to water, this perspiration is not a glaucoma issue.
