Always fascinating me when first time learning abt fashion that if we want to stretch out the fashion calendar, we will have almost full of fashion year. Pre-Fall 2020 -> Fall/Winter RTW 2020 (if menswear and womenswear do their shows separately, we'll get their runway shows in different months) menswear - womenswear -> Campaigns for SS 2020 RTW -> Spring/Summer Haute Couture 2020 -> Pre-Spring 2021 > Spring/Summer RTW 2021, menswear - womenswear -> Campaigns for FW 2020 RTW -> Fall/Winter HC 2020 -> Festive/Holiday seasons 2020
As an Editor and Stylist myself, I do a lot of fashion weeks each season. I agree with all of it, you said, except that most brands do presentations because of the lack of money. I wouldn't generalize that, I often prefer to go to presentations because you can speak to the creative people and the pr teams more, get a better insight of the work and the best part is you can come and go as you please, which is fantastic during show season as our schedules are insane and sometimes you have a 2 hour break where you can visit some presentations. Most of the times the also provide food and drinks which is a nice bonus on top. :)
I totally agree and maybe I over generalised there 😬 but like I said in the video, “other brands make a specific choice to hold presentations which isn’t based on money” I myself have gone to many amazing presentations at London and Paris.
I’ve recently started getting into higher end fashion and your channel has been really informative. Thank you for taking the time to collate and share this information ☺️
Good video dude, funnily enough this did need explaining because the whole concept of fashion week can get overwhelming so its nice to hear it broken down
you are so amazing, for someone just getting into fashion you are so helpful. P.S thx for explaining stuff new people wouldn't know I love that about this channel.
I have always had an interest in fashion, but didnt have much knowledge...this was a great explanation to the seasons and how the designers coordinate it all, great video!
Hi, love your content. Could you perhaps make a video regarding the etiquette regarding attending these fashion shows, for example what should be worn, etc.
@@CindyWarren2004 i think they were talking about the "street style" crowd that were mentioned in the video: people that went to fashion week not bc they were invited or to attend the actual shows, but just to pose and get their pictures taken outside the venue. the reason why they might be considered contributing to the negative rep of fashion is bc they don't necessarily bring anything to the table-design, input and feedback, etc-and likely only there to clout chase. they're not exactly promoting the shows, bc they don't attend it. they're not exactly promoting the brand, bc there's no guarantee they're posing with the brand's clothes. and they're definitely not giving critique or commentary for the show bc they don't see it. so what other people see is just a bunch of randos posing outside an important venue (important for the event held there) not for anything except ... well, posing. just my guess about their point and why they said it though.
Really appreciate the info. I might walk in NY fashion week this year with a very small new designer, and I had no understanding of how fashion week works. It didn’t make sense that this small designer would get a spot in the same show as like Gucci or other huge brands soo this video was extremely helpful
Brave New Wear yeah just like every athlete improves to hopefully migrate their talent to the big teams we’re there’s a bigger spot light and pay check
I m new to the whole “fashion” concept and its quite unusual for me to be intrigued by this current given the fact that I am nihilist but at the same time fashion as a form of art and as a form of expressing who you are through dressing begins to make a lot of sense for me. That being said, your channel is helping me a lot to get a grasp about what this world means. So I’m grateful for finding it. God bless u!
Did you see the balenciaga fall pre collection, thought it was good but i recall that it was mostly black which seems to be pretty common for balenciaga now.
It looked a but samey to me. Not that it was bad I’d probably wear most of the stuff but I’ve seen those looks rehashed over and over again over the years it’s becoming tiring. The accessories and footwear were interesting though
@@FashionRoadman Agree completely, all the looks were pretty damn good but the looked a lot like a continuation of the SS20 collection. I am really interested to see the FW20 collection.
As a fashion writer influencer myself, I found this super helpful. I was shocked how easy it was to get last-minute invites to New York Fashion Week. Do you think the same rings true in Paris?
alot of buyers would be non existent these days and the era of wholesale may no longer exist. Direct to consumer seems to be the way either online or offline.
COULD YOU PLEASE SPEAK ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS ON JEWLERY? Specifically grillz but all jewlery if possible and if he done so already could anybody send me the link to the video?
I haven’t actually made a video on jewellery so this is a good idea. I’ve only made a vlog where I went jewellery shopping in Dubai. ua-cam.com/video/Sa5pGPNkADw/v-deo.html
I'm genuinely curious and I think I'm so dumb for asking this but do brands hold shows simultaneously? or is it different brand each day? If that's the case do you need an invite to all the brands to fully enjoy and experience the fashion week?
They do sometimes. What often happens is that there is a certain week that is known as "Fashion Week" in that city. So the brands will book locations and sometimes they are two separate venues booked at the same time. So it really is important for the designers/brand managers to get in touch with a fashion show director so they can consolodate their shows so they can have them linearly rather than double booked and can share the buyer pool.
so this February we will see outfits for fall and winter of 2020/2021 and for September we will see the outfits for spring and summer of 2020/2021 ? right !! pls correct me if am wrong
thequeenofallcreation most definitely. In the past I have made videos on graduate collections like this for example : ua-cam.com/video/5Egi2v7xkgE/v-deo.html
This may be a dumb question but like who are the buyers of like the high end Brands such as LV or Hermes. Cause they sell their own products directly from their stores, right???
Definitely not a dumb question, I learnt about it from working in the industry. No question is stupid because you ask it with the intention to gain knowledge or understanding. High end brands don’t have buyers because they just stock whatever they make. There is no conscious or strategic planning that has to go into what a flagship store is going to stock. They just stock everything the brand makes. Buyers are more for fashion stores and consignments. E.g Barneys, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Layers London, Closet Case, Louisaviaroma etc to name a few stores. HOWEVER, a buyer can still work for Louis Vuitton for example because some high end brands hire buyers when they design collections to understand if something will or won’t sell based on the buyer’s experience and knowledge of what type of clothes stores typically buy. That can then help lead a designer on whether they need to be more experimental or if they need to tone things down a bit
Also like I said on Reggie's channel, PFW is overrated even though it is where most brands show their newest collections. London and Milan are better whilst Tokyo (even though it's not included as like the 'official' offical fashion week) has the most unique collections and pieces to showcase.
I wouldn’t say it’s over rated because some legendary brands still show there like Comme des Garçons, Yohji Yamamoto, Undercover etc. It’s more the mainstream hype from shows from brands like Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton etc that don’t move me at all because there is so much innovation going on in London
@@FashionRoadman Yeah that's true but I just think there are more lowkey shows in London and Milan that showcase better collections. Ofc Comme and Yohji are always the exceptions...

So you are either journalist, press, celebrity, celebrity stylist or buyers to be invited. So, how about the bloggers, you tubers?? Do they get invited and are they “given” clothes to wear? Because they seem to be all booked up and”busy” with the fashion weeks.
Essentially, bloggers and youtubers are the bottom of the totem pole so if they have extra seats after they have accommodated for all the buyers, celebrities and press (which they do most times) then the rest of the invites go to the largest bloggers. I think they have the formula wrong though, considering now things are going to be more digital. If anything you want influencers to drive more traffic online. Also, a lot of influencers pretend they're booked and busy at fashion week when they're not. New York really has a weak fashion week ;( It seems like once brands reach a level of success+creativity they'll ultimately migrate to Paris.

so if a brand invites a celebrity or journalist, does the brand have to fly them over and cater for them?
