Toronto’s 1st documented bald eagle nest discovered: “A really good omen”
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 бер 2024
- Earlier this winter, when Toronto resident, K.J. McCusker was out observing nature, he saw something unusual soaring above the city. There’s a good reason McCusker couldn’t believe his eyes: there has never been a documented bald eagle pair - nesting in Toronto - until now.
“Total miracle… being here for twenty years, you just don’t see eagles and I come from a place where you see eagles, from out west, so we see eagles all the time and I just remember hanging out in ceremony with some people and saying like, why don’t you ever see eagles here,” McCusker said.
The Indigenous community is quietly and respectfully celebrating what Elder Duke Redbird is calling a “ray of hope” and “a really good omen for Toronto.” He added that “In the Indigenous community, amongst the highest honour you can bestow on anybody is to offer an eagle feather.”
Global’s Melanie Zettler has the details.

Considering all the Squirrel nests in the surrounding trees, the Eagles have an abundance of prey.
not to mention all of the small dogs and cats
Fish
take my mice first
They’ve been in the Rouge Valley for over ten years. I still have a picture of one flying over the 401 from years ago
ya man there was a nest at Dundas and Bathurst.............I have pics..looool 2 years ago also seen one in High Pak 2017
The most beautiful of eagles -- they are almost angelic.
Gorgeous, great news. Looks like a HUGE nest.
Don't tell people exactly where it is or people will destroy them!
Don’t you have a law against destroying nests in Canada? In the US it’s a crime to even take feathers from dead eagles that are found. The bodies must be turned in to Wildlife and Fisheries. The carcass is examined for cause of death, natural? or something we dumb humans did? Out West the feathers are then given to nearest Native Americans. The tribal council decides how to distribute the feathers. They don’t get many.
Its about time some positive news being reported on. Instead of all the other crap in the news!
We got all kinds of eagles up here in Timmins Ontario; 8 hour drive north of GTA.
At our waste disposal site, sometimes a couple of dozen can be seen flying around and feeding on waste along with the seagulls, ravens and crows.
It's the same around the Bayfield area, I've gotten loads of pictures of them hunting in large packs, sometimes up to 50 at a time circling...lol
You know the media never goes anywhere outside of downtown
That's beautiful!
beautiful. this is a good sign/omen. We have to remember not to swarm or disturb the nesting site.
Congratulations to Toronto! Now you get to see these beauties grace the skies daily like we do in Florida ♥️ I’ll be coming to check them out!! 😊
Also like to remind folks years ago at Stanley Park a big old eagle nest got knocked down with a bunch of trees and over 70 dog and cat collars inside.
That is so cool! I’ve never seen one, but I hope they will grow and becoming normal here.
great! We need more Eagles- The Elders are so right- It is a great omen
What elders
Bahahah what do you know about any of our nations cultures lol
I live in Ottawa, and for the first time, I clearly saw a small falcon chasing pigeons also. I didn’t know Canadian city skies were so wild 😮🐥
Great news. We have quite a few Bald Eagles here in Vancouver. Yes, right in the city. I've seen them. It's such a thrill, because they are so beautiful. But I'm happy they're in Toronto now, too.
I live in Cambridge, and we get Eagles nesting on the Grand River every year. Apparently they winter here from Labrador , feasting on the Carp that are plentiful.
Congratulations to the Eagle couple nesting in Toronto. I hope this will be a signal of better times to come. Let's hope they raise many families over the years to come. Keep people away!
A real regal bird, hope the indigenous community appreciate the significance and look after the bird
They do. We don't.
@@donaldboyer8182lol yeah…
Wow That Bird 🦅 is huge and amazing and so beautiful 🤩
Red tail hawks are everywhere in Toronto. Remember the perigran falcons nesting on downtown high rise in late 80s
There are some in Mississauga and Halton region as well! Love seeing them but I try to keep sightings vague to avoid people chasing them. Ethical Bird watching practices are especially important for raptors
Good omen? We've had Bald Eagles for years in Ontario, take a day trip to the west coast for a drive up highway 21, you'll start seeing them around Grand Bend. In the Bayfield area, we have at least 50 that I've gotten hundreds of photos of and I've also got a mating pair of Snowy Owl that are nested across from my house.
That's great!
I hope, they keep all their feathers!
Super, Toronto. There’s reports of two nests on Cape Cod now. So Canada should soon have nests all the way to the Atlantic.
Such a powerful bird of prey. May they get busy, and make lots of eaglets.
Actually eagles are mostly scavengers
The bald eagle has a body length of 70-102 cm (28-40 inches). Typical wingspan is between 1.8 and 2.3 meters (5 feet 11 inches & 7 feet 7 inches). Weight is normally between 3 and 6.3 kg (6.6 and 13.9 pounds).
Oh my! Awesome, just awesome!❤
wow, such great news! i hope they are able to protect it to populate more!
Wow that is so cool, I myself have never seen a Bald Eagle in the wild in Ontario but my sister has sent me pics of them from the Hespelar/Cambridge area in Ontario Canada❤
I saw one a couple years ago, I’m just out near Cobourg, hour and half east of Toronto.
If there's one thing Torontonians and the politicians representing us are not, it's being able to dial things back and take consideration. Any nesting area along the Lake Ontario shoreline near Toronto will always be threatened by development, it's been that way for 40 plus years. I hope they cordon the area off and designate it as a wildlife preserve to prevent development.
Fascinating! Proof that yes, man can eff up and man can fix it.
Saw one flying above when I was in simcoe north of port Dover and managed to sneak up on one chilling on the bank of Lake Erie where the erosion is happening on Gooby Drive east of Port Burwell
They are so beautiful. Amazing birds these bald eagles. 😭😭😭
My parents have video recordings from the 80s of a pair that used the same nest every year. We have a lot of them here, in southern Ontario.
Good to know they migrated to Toronto❤ They're seen commonly in Vancouver island.
@Rocksteady246 western canada
There are thousands of them south of Vancouver. But many of them migrate to other places during the summer.
I saw a bald eagle on Haliburton Lake about 10 years ago. 3 hours north of Toronro.
I know of two nests. Didn't realize Toronto was so unfortunate not to have them. This really isn't anything new to Ontario.
I've been seeing bald eagles near Caledonia ON grand river for years now, just see one last week!
awesome
We fish The Trent River down by Frankford a lot, see them all the time
So cool!
Fabulous!!!
The eagles will fit right in with everyone else living outside in Toronto.
Humber River in Etobicoke has lots of birds. I have seen a Bald Eagle once in 2022.
I saw one 2 weeks ago near Maidstone, outside near town of Essex in essx county .
Glad they didn't give away the location. People are stupid and they would encroach on the site and scare the birds off "just want a look".
I remember the first time I saw one flying right over me in close proximity in Hamilton and at the time I didnt know we had them in Ontario. My immediate reaction was, Thats way bigger than anything ive seen flying here until i spotted the white head and was blow away
Pierre will be elected PM. Great omen in deed.
The first thing you notice when you come to China🇨🇳 is:
- it doesn't have many birds, no wild animals. Why?
I think it was in the early 00's I read an article about Chinese villagers exhausting the local wild birds to death by making loud noises into the night.
@@cassieo4337 I believe the govt announced that sparrows were a problem and had to be eradicated. As I seem to recall, it led to problems. Suddenly there were far too many of the insects the birds ate, or something like that.
Probably became food
These birds are attracted by the smell of rot, so no surprise they are in Toronto, and it's funny they are not roosting on city hall!
I live on a tidal marsh in Nova Scotia. Lots of bald eagles here. Watched one eat a blue jay
Must be a slow news day. They were flying over my house years ago
See lots them now been 2 in the Campbellford area for 5-6 months.
There was a nest at Dundas and Bathurst.............I have pics..looool 2 years ago also seen one in High Pak 2017
How long until some monsters try to hurt them?
An eagle chose my property to pass away on. I gifted the eagle to rama reserve near orillia ontario.
There is a bald eagle up at my cottage somewhere north of havelock ont
We got some in London and windsor
They are cutting all the forests down up north here. Where do you think they are going to go.
Nonsense,Mississauga right on 16milecreek, you can seen them from the 407 between Britannia & Darry rd east side. They've been nesting for over 10years..
They're not gonna tell us the area?
❤️❤️❤️
Now we just need to get them to not fly into wind turbines...
Watch your small dogs 🐕. 😏...beautiful bird, I had a dream about an Eagle the Eagle was protecting my house. ❤.
Bald Eagles have always come to Canada so I don’t know why this is news
Freedom lives here
Ontario is the least free province lol
Of course in Canada it always relates back to Indigenous people somehow.
Ok boomer 😘😘
It’s all related to indigenous people, without them, American would be just like Europe. Many different states that would probably still be at war.
@Rocksteady246 we are all indigenous people. We’ve all forgotten that. Forgotten this world isn’t ours. They remind us.
Without European immigration, these tribes would probably still be at war with each other, just like "since time immemorial".@@mw9297
@Rocksteady246 my guy you're the one that's triggered by an indigenous person talking about a bird ☠️☠️
“Concerned community member” LOL
Keep an eye of the surroundings!
@Rocksteady246 for evil doers. People love to destroy!
Well done Toronto! You are definitely doing something right!
that's not how it works
@@mentilly_all They go where it is comfortable and a perceived abundance of food and shelter.

Mathew 6:26
Wow how can these birds afford Toronto housing?
does ANYONE at glob know what conflict-of-interest is ?
This is news?
Maybe you shouldn’t of reported on this I hope your not giving out the location
Another sign the US is in Canada
This is the 3rd video or post about wildlife begin restored in Canada, esp Ontario in the past few months❤. 'On the testimony of 2 or 3 witnesses, a matter will be established', a biblical and universal principal indication that God's speaking through nature too encourage us that He's restoring our beautiful country 🎇🌟✨💫🥳🎉🕊️💞❣️
What are even talking about canada has thousands and thousands of bald eagles
Not welcomed on my land, Lost a beloved cat last August. My neighbours cat almost had his leg torn off. So,you cat lovers in Toronto beware and don't let anyone tell you eagles don't kill cats. Sadly,I know better.
Better keep an eye on your smaller sized dogs.
If you want to see Bald Eagles go to your local dump.
I was shocked (and appauled) by the number of eagles i saw at my local dump, they were EVERYWHERE; pecking in piles of garbage alongside the seagulls.
Thought to myself, "this isn't a good look for Americans" 😉
Nice, Merica!
😮
Canada: What happen ?
Ontario: Somebody set up us the invasion.
Toronto: We get signal.
Canada: What !
Toronto: Main screen turn on.
Canada: It's you !!
USA: How are you gentlemen !!
USA: All your trees are belong to us.
CATS: You are on the way to assimilation.
Canada: What you say !!
USA: You have no chance to survive make your time.
USA: Ha ha ha ha …
Toronto: Captain !!
Canada: Take off every 'Canada Goose'!!
Canada: You know what you doing.
Canada: Move 'Canada Goose'.
Canada: For great justice.
Ya hoo paper straws r working 😂
This story is for the birds.
How is that a good thing? If anything, it's actually concerning. Mind you, I'm not ignorant or greedy.
lol. these people don't spend much time outside do they? we've been seeing them for 20 years just south of Ottawa
Toronto isn't Ottawa, genius. At least the birds weren't shot by gun nuts. Pew pew.
:)
🙄🙌
Going bald
Not possible. All bald eagles are dead because climate change.
Do they 'open carry'?
considering the city is full of rats makes sense
shyt americas gona invade
Good omen? I will take it! The Eglinton line will soon be done! Justin Trudeau will be gone!
Tastes like chicken,,,
Stopping worldwide weather manipulation should be the jumping off point . Sprayed like bugs in a game show . Heres some water for you ….and heres some water for you …..and you …..🤮
It just means there way more rats
Even their symbol of national identity and pride had to literally move to Canada coz they can't just stand the gunzzzz there anymore 😂
What a Great sign that Palestine will be free! Palestinians are indigenous people too!
Lol
