It's new to you so you are blinded by the the magic. Having said that it's the best, most feature-rich, affordable high technology amateur radio ever introduced. But you're not looking at how noisy this radio is. Same mistake too many people make when they don't have decades of experience with other radios.
You can't completely remove the background hash because the RF Gain does not and never will work like an RF Gain in an old 80's radio which made them extremely quiet. Radio is all about signal to noise ratio dude. You can't tame an Icom 7300 because of it's limited and cheap SDR architecture.
You forgot to mention that it's fatiguing to use with headphones. You WILL get tired of using it with headphones and you will see that old radios or full SDRs like the Anan 7000 don't have this problem. It's noisy as hell.
No matter how much you adjust the LPF and HPF in the receive audio equalizer you will never make the background static less pleasant. The whole experience is receive audio that is too sharp despite the SOFT and SHARP settings in filtering.
Having said that, It's a dream radio. Better than an Icom 718 and it has the best transmit audio of anything that's come out in decades. Enjoy it. Keep the RF gain down low so it doesn't overload, another problem with these radio is too much sensitivity.

This radio is making me seriously consider getting into ham radio. I'm curious about the auto transmit of the pre-recorded CQ, can you adjust the listening interval between transmissions? ... and if you are slow to disable the auto transmit and someone is coming back to you will it auto stop or is it going to step on them?
( just subscribed by the way)

hello there .... yes you can adjust that interval between transmission... also, if somebody's coming back, sq will still going and yes, we will step on each other lol

Ive been into Ham radio for about two years. consider getting Technician and working 10 meter band while the solar cycle is up. You'll want to upgrade to General after seeing what HF does in person.

Once you press your key manually it stops. So it can be made to stop quickly.

Calling CQ 40, CQ 40 meters is redundant. If you have a license to operate a radio you should know what band you are on without having someone call CQ(insert band).
