    simple solution. look at a pane of glass through polarized glasses. if it has all the waves its tempered. if not. you are free to drill. I actually contacted them about their tanks and they told me that some are tempered and some are not depending on whats available to build with at the time. so when shopping takes some polarized glasses with you and you can find the right one. just a helpful tip. Great video! keep it up

      I knew there was the away time check with polarized glasses but never tried it. Really so it’s Russian roulette what glass they use? That explains it!

    i was really looking forward to this because i got an eclipse too, but there is so much conflicting info about how to install it. their website, and the manual are conflicting, as is the advice i got from BRS. where are the gaskets supposed to go??? my instinct tells me one on either side of the glass, but that will create gaps between the box and the tank... have you actually successfully installed one of these? maybe i'm asking the wrong guy since you just tried to drill a tempered tank! lol, j/k

    • @5238jorge
      @5238jorge 5 років тому +1

      Edward Yezekian the gaskets go on the inside of the tank between the glass and over flow box and the second gasket goes between the glass and the external box I literally just installed this yesterday and was having problems with it leaking till I did it this way.

    Went through this. My sticker was hidden upside down and under the trim. So no way to see it unless the trim was pulled off. This was a 75 aqueon brand. After contacting them learned there is a shortage of non tempered glass and they will randomly use tempered in some or all sides. Also I was originally planning on using the eshopps overflow box as well. However there is no way to install these ‘correctly’ on a rimmed tank. Your waterline will always be well below the black trim and look bad. Just a heads up. Good luck guys!!!

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  5 років тому

      Its one of the sleeker overflows so will likely stick with it but good to know! I guess one could just raise the standpipe height and close a gate valve a bit to raise the water level higher.. could work!

    I just finished drilling one of these through a 70 Gallon WaterBox with 1/2 glass. These overflow work awesome once they're installed.

    I have one of these overflows on my frag tank and I do not like it. The rear chamber is lower than the front chamber it leaves it sloshing and making lots of noise. If you increase flow to try and quiet it down it runs the rear chamber is full to the point that it almost overflows. The modular marine overflows are a much better design. Their overflows keep the front and rear chamber equal height. They have a complete line of overflows in many different sizes including custom sizes. This is the route I will be going on my new tank.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  5 років тому

      Cant you just add a longer stand pipe to quiet it down?

    • @justforkiks29
      @justforkiks29 5 років тому

      @@ReefDudes the sound comes from the rear chamber being lower than the front and the top of the bulkhead being almost impossible to get underwater completely. When you finally get it underwater the rear chamber is full to the top and wouldnt take much to overflow it onto the ground. I also noticed I didnt get the fill capacity of my frag tank that I should have. I was never able to run the water line up where it should have been. I've used synergy reef shadow overflows in the past and had similar issues exceptionally was able to get the display level I was supposed to with synergy, but they are expensive imo. It turns out to be a design flaw.
