This is so beautiful!! I would’ve NEVER thought to use paint on the rope. I would’ve been afraid the paint, after drying, would’ve caused a bunch of paint “flakes” or dust to get into my machine. I guess adding the water helps to alleviate that? I’ve seen many rope bowls, but never seen someone decoupage on one. Thanks for teaching me a few new skills!
Thank you for your video. I’ve been sewing rope bowls for 2 1/2 years and recently started SEWING cut outs on the outside of the bowl. I’m definitely going to try your method. I love trying new things. Good job!!😃👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely beautiful, I love modge Podge with napkins, And I love dying my rope. Your Koolaid spoon is the same one I have also. We only use it for juices.
Thank you! My koolaid spoon was used for years making grape Koolaid for my kids who are all grown up. It is still used today for all type of projects. Just a nice memory for me.
That is really stunning! I am definitely going to make one like this. I had never thought of using paper napkins to add a design. I've seen people embroider the bottom, so I supposed you could use a napkin on the inside bottom as well. I'm sure the Mod Podge makes the bowl sturdier as well. Thanks for this wonderful idea. I have dyed and painted bowls and wrapped them with fabric. Can't wait to try this!
Wow, beautiful! ❤️Im going to make some for Christmas gifts this year. I’ve made many projects in the past doing decoupaging and found cutting paper with small curved cuticle scissors did a great job. First cut out print in squares then use curved scissors, fast and easy. Hope this is helpful!
That is neat!! I have some lighter blue seashell napkins from Tuesday Morning I haven't done anything with yet. I'm tempted to make a rectangular basket for setting on the tank, and applying shell motifs to it. I have some jatlrs that I macraméd with jute twine that I can set into that. That bath is decorated with beachy items, other bath is more nautical with ship, etc. Thanks so much for all of these ideas!💕 I think some various supplies are finally going to be getting used around here, now!! Subscribed!
You sound like a kindred spirit!😊. I am always thinking like that and using up what I have! Thanks for watching and sharing! Glad you are part of my community!
I use this bowl on my kitchen counter to hold my napkins. You can put in a plastic liner and use it to hold a houseplant. Also insert a plastic liner and it can hold chips, French bread slices, fruit or anything you want to serve along side a charcuterie board. I’ve also used these type bowls to hold collections of silverware, rolling pins, scented pine cones, shells, and hand towels in the bathroom or kitchen. I am currently making these type bowls to hold my sewing thread spools and bobbins. Will be sharing that video in the future.
¡Gracias!
I fell in love with the bowl the instant I saw it and had to know how you did it. I thought for sure it was with some skill I didn’t have! Very creative! I love the scallops!!! It was the first thing I noticed. Absolutely beautiful! My one question is whether you used the mod podge on the bottom of the bowl, both inside and outside?
Thank you for your comment! Yes I did Mod Podge the entire piece top and bottom. It really makes the bowl sturdy. Very easy process and can made with many different color combinations. Hope you get to make one!
Hi! I did have another question. How much rope does it take to make that size of a bowl? The yardage I’m hearing about is 100 yards for most “skeins”. Do you need more than one to make a bowl?
@robinschwartz6977 the rope I used for this bowl is the Hyper Tough cotton clothesline rope that is 3/16 inch by 100 feet. I only used 1 roll for this bowl. I purchased it from Walmart. Hope your project turns out great!😊
How do you keep the bowls from losing their shape? My bowls look good at the start, but over time the sides become wobbly. Does the paint stiffen it? I have not painted my rope. Thanks!
First I make sure to purchase stiff 100% cotton rope. Not the poly cotton rope because it’s too soft. The dyeing process does help stiffen the rope. The best thing I found for making the bowls permanently stiff is to coat the bowl with Mod Podge. I use the matte finish Mod Podge. Hope this helps!
Because the cotton rope that works perfectly for these bowls is off white and stains easily. I like to dye and seal my bowls. It’s a matter of personal preference. I’ve tried white rope that usually has polyester in it and does not hold up. Hope this helps!😊
@mariannekrell7180 I start the bowl with a 4” base and then lift the flat bottom up as I continue sewing. The bowl will naturally get wider the more you sew. Also use the 3/16 wide rope. It keeps its shape so much better than wider rope. I keep the bowl up against the machine as I sew. If you let the bowl down it will flatten out. Keep practicing! Hope this helps! Check out my Rope Bowl playlist where I have a tips video on rope bowl making!
Absolutely stunning! I subscribed & liked and will be sharing this technique with my friends. I wish they had a loved button. Super creative and great tips with mod podge and napkins …the possibilities are endless. Blessings
I love this, but I think that the ribbon is going to far. If you really think it needs the ribbon, I would try a narrow one. Just my opinion. But overall it is stunning. I can't wait to give it a go, although I am going to try with fabric instead of the napkins. Tracy
Oh, I love this bowl with the blue and made with napkins. It looks so rich and expensive. Thank you for sharing.
Mimi, I loved your video. I am a blue and white lover and will make this lovely basket for my kitchen. Thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Awesome idea ❤❤ I love it without any ribbon around the top.

Yes the water makes the paint thinner and it doesn’t flake. I hope you make some beautiful projects!

Thank you for sharing this amazing video. Did you sew the scallops all around by machine or just where they dipped?
I sewed the scallops all around with the machine. All the rope was dyed once at the beginning before sewing. Thank you!😊
It looks very beautiful, my beautiful sweet friend and how are you feeling?
Much better today. Thank you.

Loved your idea! Question: do you spread some type of glue all over the bowl or only modpodge over the flowers?
Only use Modge Podge on the bowls. It is a glue and sealer. Thanks!😊
Looks very nice but what do you use it for? Is it just decorative?
I store my napkins in it on the kitchen counter.

@@mimitodd8781 Thank you! I just haven’t understood how much rope I would need for a project.
Did you apply HodgePodge inside as well?
I have applied Modge Podge to the inside of some of my bowls. It really stiffens the bowls.
Do you need to coat the bowl in the paint? Can it be done with the plain rope?
U
Yes you can make the bowl without paint. I’ve made bowls with out painting them.

Would this work with white clothes line rope instead of painting?
Yes it would!
What size is your circle you start ed with
It measures 5 inches.
Does the rope come in white that you could use?
I’ve not found a good stiff white rope yet. The one I use that works great is a beige color. Still searching!
The bowl is beautiful! But why go through the trouble of dying it ? Why not just buy white rope?
Because the cotton rope that works perfectly for these bowls is off white and stains easily. I like to dye and seal my bowls. It’s a matter of personal preference. I’ve tried white rope that usually has polyester in it and does not hold up. Hope this helps!😊
love this too but I honestly like the bowl without the ribbon, so much classier in my opinion. but nonethe less very pretty what you have made.
Thank you! 😊
What are the finished dimensions of this bowl?
@@kathleen0619 the bottom of this bowl measures 4” across. The top of the bowl measures 10” across. The height of the bowl is 6 1/2 inches.

@kathleensiemon4695 you are welcome!🤗
I love the angle of this bowl. Can you tell me how you achieved that angle? I’m a newbie. Made a few but a tip from you would be great
