Big Boys and Great Toys: Live Steam Garden Railway and Real Steam Trains on Backyard Railroad
- Some say live steam trains, others say real steam trains. Today, we discover the world of garden railway, backyard railroad or garden railroad with live steam locomotives from 5 inch gauge up to 7 1/4 inch gauge. It is about ridable miniature railways including locomotives large enough for one or several persons to ride on.
The whole video was taken on the railway course of the German Railway Modelling Club, called “Dampfbahnclub Taunus”, located near Frankfurt/Main, Germany. As you can see from the tracks, the park railway is suitable for 5 inch and 7 ¼ inch model trains. Please, enjoy these steam locomotives and listen to their original sound.

I like the Silver Big boy steam locomotive
wonderful dear friend
Fantastic equipment and a beautiful park.
Most of them look so serious. If I were riding one you would have to knock the smile off my face with a coal shovel.
Garteneisenbahn is deadly serious business.
Nice to see some thing of triangle history is still alive
Agree. Most look like they are not having fun.
Zis is how ze Germans have fun!
They look bland and unappreciative
"Ugh! There's too much traffic! How are we going to get to work."
".. *Ahem* Allow me to introduce my hand-made forms of transport."
Its great to see young kids involved in operations , future looks good.

To right
Love seeing American and European locos in the same place.
You would love steam-o-rama 1969
That 4-6-6-4 is just MAD, mad respect to the guy for making it.
This place is magical! A kid (or big kid) could get lost here for hours and not notice a day has passed. I love it!
Today, May 4th I saw Big Boy 4014 coupled up with the 844, heading west on the UP line out of Cheyenne Wyoming, under its own power, fully restored. It was incredible, It was History. Yes the Big Boy will never pull freight any more, but still in all, too see her chugging down the tracks and hear her whistle. Yeah, it was so wonderful. But you guys, to have built a Big Boy so small and fully operational, that takes talent. Good job and great video.
When youre retired and you really need an excuse not to stay home with your wife.
Greatest hobby ever!
love the intro tune 80s feel and that thing is amazing!
That table is a really nice setup. I'm impressed by this club.
Absolutely fabulous! Of the dream! Of the dream! More and more dreams! Find your child's soul! Thank you!
Absolument fabuleux! Du rêve! Du rêve! Encore et toujours plus du rêve! Retrouver son âme d'enfant! Merci!
That was just wonderful! Well done to the guys that run the park and to the guys that look after the wonderful trains! Magical! Well done to you all! It has made my evening!!
I had no idea Germans were all 30-40 feet tall.
Lari Kipe im germen to but im a teenager
@@Yarelis2086 So are you like only 25 feet tall?
nope still growing as a kid
Same
Germen grow bigger when r in their habitats
this is the worlds greatest hobby why because it saves marriages the husband is always in his shed building these magnificent machines the wife doesnt know where he is most of the time and couldnt care less anyway So it saves the courts being cluttered up with divoice cases You cant argue with your husband if he is never there to shout at
Somebody just got divorced
Nuclear Tuesday exactly
Wife may just be bored
That sounds like a quick way to end a marriage so idk what you're talking about. Unless that was pure irony.
Boomer humor
Es alls wundershön. Danke!!!!!!
The engines are brilliant to scale, workmanship to details is excellent. I enjoyed the video and have to look at it again. Thank you
Paradise for train lovers
Those locos are gorgeous!
typical German toy. industrial spirit!
Thank you!
Great video, well shot, andedited, thank you for posting
Very very beautiful now that's what I'm talking about 🧐😲🤯...👌my kinda toy I'll have one of those sir thank you👍
My great uncle was a machinist and he used to build these in his garage behind his house. The last few years of his life he sadly got alzheimers and never messed with it again.
That was totally fun!
Wow this is pretty cool. The locomotives are awesome especially the shiny one with the double 6 drives. And the layout, geez really well maintained. Mucho Euro's spent here.
If you pay someone to build one, yes you would be talking about $100,000 for a 4-6-6-4 type. For builders, its more about time than money. It can take tens of thousands of hours.
Amazing freight yard being backed up there guys... Amazing footage if a little brief!
Very enjoyable. Greetings from New York City!
This is a great video. The filming is excellent, and it’s just so well done I could even smell the engines.
That is so,"COOL", Love old trains👍🚂🚃
Nice Chemtrails in the background
É MUITO LINDO ESSES TRENZINHO DE VOCÊS EU CURTO MUITO, ISSO DAÍ UM ABRAÇO À TODOS VOCÊS DO UA-cam. E DESSE FANÁTICOS ENTRETENIMENTO 🇧🇷🇱🇷🇲🇾🇨🇰
Super.
HERMOSOS VIDEOS... 💖💖💖
Fantastic, thank you.
That was an impressive video.
Small,cute but strong💪💪
11:11 that’s me.
So awesome!
I wish the train enthusiasts in Russia adopt the 5 inch and 7.1/2 gauge live steam railraoding. We have very inexpensive steel and plenty of space for decent size clubs!
That is so cool!
That is just so impressive....just so wonderful.
Great camera angle to show detail scale of locomotives
HOW WONDERFUL!! Many details, fantastic !! Hugs from Brazil
Saudações ao Brasil de Pilentum Television!
This is sooo cool!! Awesome!!!!!!
this looks like a amazing park .
It's amazing how bored a lot of these people look riding these tiny little steam trains. Like they're on a Monday morning commute to work.
This is amazing.Especially the big one wth the metal look.It might cost a small fortune.
Try,, a large fortune, ,, you could buy a nice house for one of the big ones.
This is Fantastic! :-D
Beautiful!
Fun! Life can be so nice
Wonderful.
Jolly good show @Pilentum . Keep up the good work guys
Too cool 😎
Astounded, but not surprised, at the high quality workshipmenship and presentation of these German Lokies. Love the European old School design. Now Iam dropping everything to make a couple of their open shaft water pumps! Good bye injectors!
That looks like fun :)
That's a beautiful place.
Lovely
Hermosas locomotoras 👌
Germans are great in engineering. From INDIA.
Awesome.
Oh my god i love them!
good wheelslip
Wow nice,2:41
Thats gold looking articulated loco looks like one of our USA steam loco the the N&W articulated 1218 at 2:52
The locomotive at 2:49 is more closely modeled after the Challenger then the Big Boy. Big Boy has a 4-8-8-4 wheel arrangement while the Challenger is 4-6-6-4. Both however, were built by the legendary American Locomotive Company, also known as Alco. Besides that, awesome video and awesome models!
Snow Owl more like an N&W Y6A. That’s a much closer appearance and the correct wheel arrangement.
@@benwetzel8449 N&W A class locomotive. The y6b came after this one which is the A class
I can't believe not one but *TWO* people mistook an N&W A class as another engine
These are so cool!!! I wish I could buy these!
I like double piston engine, good creativity.
Cool video 👍👍
I don't see any big boys. i only see one steam locomotive that looks more like N&W a class steam locomotive
It's most likely a N&W A class.
@@TheBroughamGamer Indeed it is. I've ridden behind the 1218 and even sneaked a cab ride around a wye.
even than isn't a Challenger a 4-6-6-4 not a 2-6-6-4 config. ? whatever the case a Big Boy it is NOT { 4-8-8-4}
@@jetegtmeier71 Yes. The locomotive shown is a Norfolk & Western Class A, a 2-6-6-4. That wheel arrangement originated on the Seaboard Air Line, which wanted a powerful locomotive for fast freight. It was a much lighter engine than the N&W's version, however! The Seaboard's engines were eventually sold to the Baltimore & Ohio.
Hmmm 🤔 maybe the title should be changed, or at least the description could be updated... As is, it's driving up unintended views with all the recent BigBoy restoration hype.
It's an interesting video, but I specifically came here to see a live steam BigBoy...
22:25 That wheelslip was insane.
I like the long one, kind of represents a WW1 or WW2 train. I may have to get one for myself when I build my own in the future on a farm building it either one a 1400+ acre farm or 14000+ farm in Texas
That sounds great. Please write me when your railway park is finished.
Oh the n&w a class was a very sick locomotive
@@alexilauto1419 same here
@Kabuki Kitsune not a challenger, thats a mallet 2-6-6-4 loco, the challenger is a 4-6-6-4
@Kabuki Kitsune N&W A class
Big Boys - Big Тoys)
That 2-10-2 tank engine sound like an normal sized locomotive.
Oh YEAH !
I like mini train
excited!!
Great video, thumbs up + sub. Greetings from Denmark :)
Med venlig hilsen fra Tyskland.
Truly, these little trains are works of art and engineering but I think I'd rather be sailing.
A sweatshirt hoodie is always a good look for grown men.
You know, they are crazy - in a very lovely way :-)
Necesito uno de esas locomotoras.
I wanna see wheel slide with mini trains
Awesome video and hello from Frederick Maryland
Hello back from Pilentum, Frankfurt/Main, Germany :-)
@@pilentum Hope you have a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and an awesome happy New Year
nice
I never saw a Big Boy.
Cooool coool 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
I'm sorry but it looks hilarious with a big huge dude riding what looks like a kids Thomas train
Someone should open a theme park for these.
Doesn't Oregon have one?
It's called Train Mountain. It's huge
Perfekt
I want to put a beach chair on the top of those carriages for one of those trains.
class !, different track, it is a pity that there is no semaphore signaling!
That's right: Semaphore signaling is missing!
The title denotes Big Boy, but the 2-6-6-4 in video looks to be "sort-of" replica of a N&W Class A locomotive.
When the grand kids get older
