"Here's how confident the producers were that we were not gonna give away a million dollars: we didn't even rehearse the bit that's coming up!" Probably the most real statement ever spoken by a game show host. Love it!
I remember this and the final question and I guessed 29% highly doubt I would have ever gambled a million to go for it, but it's incredible to think that back in the day if I was in his shoes I would've had it right.
Drew's more excited than the contestant. That's the best host you could ever have. Always brightens up the mood, always laughing or smiling, gotta love him.
What gets me is that moment at 2:31 where Drew looks really sad this kid might not get it... and then everyone's shocked look when he makes it! :) Hosts that care, I love it!
Drew really tried to convince the kid to take a shot at the $10M but the kid did the right thing walkin away with $1M. It's no wonder that the producers of the show had to pay the kid in ten annual instalments. Ten million dollars. Goddamn. That's set-for-life money right there. And at 19 years old. Amazing. I wish I was a ninteen year old millionaire training to be a doctor.
I was hoping Jamie would go for it but I was the same age Jamie was at the time and to me to go $10 million and still leave with $100,000 seemed like something great to do. My dad explained something called taxes and now at 31 I see how right Dad was.
lol I feel like Drew is desperately trying to make him gamble for the 10 million dollars, as if the producers told him ''I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO OR SAY, JUST MAKE HIM GO FOR THE 10 MILLION SO HE CAN LOSE, WE CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY 1M FIRST SHOW FIRST CONTESTANT!!!'' LOLL
drew is a genuine good guy!! did you know that the 500 bucks he awards to players who bid exactly is a piece of drews real pay cheque, he gets paid to host price is right?? the producers said we can give out 500 dollar bonus money but drew was like naw i don't mind sharing my own money!!
This show is getting better with every night it's on, and so is Drew. Also, I think we now realize that winning the BIG money is not easy at all, the way it should be, you really have to EARN it. So, any time the million or even the ten million is won it will be exciting. It is a smart fun show that certainly makes you think.
Why are you people judging the mom? She just wanted him to make a smart decision, which he did, to walk away. And she was proud of him, not only for winning the show, but because he is going to med school. Nothing wrong here.
i love how drew was so persuasive to the contestant to try the question so that they can still have a chance to just give him 100k rather than a million lmao
Yeah he's reading off the autocue saying that, they literally didn't rehearse this. But I wish he said fuck that and just told the kid not to risk it. Regis Philbin was often accused of being too pushy not to gamble on WWTBAM, but, would you rather have that than a guy telling everyone to gamble 900000 dollars? I can't tell if Drew is trying to save the show or think this kid's smart enough to win the 10m.
For those of you wondering... he was only RISKING $90,000 by going for the $1,000,000 question. He had $100,000 -- if he was wrong he would still win $10,000 $100,000 - $10,000 = $90,000 So he was only risking $90,000, not $990,000
CBS please bring back The Power of 10, I know Drew's busy with Price is Right but either have him host this again or at have someone else host it please!!!
cutemimi25 I once imagined him as a contestant, and when Drew asks Rich what he needed the cash for, Rich responded "To get back at Fremantle for firing me from Price, and start my own show."
cutemimi25 In fact, it's still one of his big plans. Fields' most famous work was announcer of Price from 2004-10, a role which he repeatedly stated was his "dream job" after watching original announcer Johnny Olson (coincidentally, he and current Wheel announcer Jim Thornton both announced on Price just after Rod Roddy's death). Rich either had a fan following already or gained one very quickly after his first appearance, as the president of his fan club was called down about a month into Fields' tenure. Shortly after being hired, the podium his predecessors worked from was disposed of; rather than see it destroyed, he retrieved the podium and put it on display in his home. He also handled hosting duties on the first two Price video games for Wii and PC, taking over for Bob and Drew, and did most of the announcing. Rich became somewhat disliked by fans during the first half of Season 37, when he became the subject of many "Drewcases" (Showcases written by host Drew Carey) that made him look like either a jerk or a joke. Others criticized Rich for the tone of his voice. Following Season 38, he was fired due to unspecified reasons only described as "a mess of his own making and didn't have anything to do with The Price Is Right" (TMZ claimed he was a victim of identify theft, while someone claiming to be a close friend said that "he was getting tired, having too many personal problems"). Whatever the case, it is known that Fremantle extremely disliked him despite his immense fan popularity, wanting him gone when Bob Barker left in 2007, and that executive producer Mike Richards wanted an improv comedian to interact with Carey; George Gray, previously host of the daytime syndicated Weakest Link, ultimately got the job. As a result, he was not included as an announcer for the TPIR: Decades Wii video game produced by Ludia; in his place, however, is fellow Olson protege and announcer Randy West.Rich is the only announcer to have worked on both the Barker and Carey versions of Price, as well as the show's first announcer to be replaced while still living (Olson died in 1985, and Roddy in 2003). After Price, Fields' most recent work was announcer of Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza, which ran on GSN for a few months in 2011.
Jamie played the game well and I am glad he won $1 million on the first show. Power Of 10 comes back on January 2nd, 2008!!! Drew Carey rules thank you very much!!!
What a way to begin a game show, with a $1,000,000 win for the very first contestant! If more game shows of this sort started out this way, it would be awesome! And Drew's reaction throughout the clip is priceless! "It's my dream to give away money on this job."
Drew's gotten better On TPIR & He'll get better as Years Go By He's good for this Show I hope it comes back soon I Love How He Says "YOU WON A MILLION BUCKS"
Stiven Bonilla Jamie was one of my favorite contestants too. I saw this with my parents and I was very happy to see this dude win $1 million. I was hoping he'd go for $10 million but my dad who understood money better than me said Jamie did the right thing.
3:54 Drew: This show's not gonna get through the first season if we keep up like this. Well, he wasn't wrong. That's WHY the show got canceled, the very first player won $1 million.
This is simply one of the best game shows made for a long time, marred by one of the weakest final rounds ever made. Could there ever possibly be a $10,000,000 winner if they aired the show for a hundred years?
Good for him! As a college student myself, I know how much that money can help. No student loans, he can afford a car/insurance/gas, he can buy a house, groceries...haha that's awesome. I'm glad it was a 19 year old winning instead of a 45 year old. :)
Yeah I agree The Power Of 10 was a great game show. This kid Jamie is my age and he played the game brillently. I'm glad he won $1 million and now his college is paid for and he can buy some other things on the side.
Congrats to Jamie !!! Seems like you did a geat job ! I enjoyed the excitement that Jamie brought to the show and very glad that he won ! He can enjoy life and school kowing that he will not have to struggle. I know that he is thankful ! Good luck to your family in the future ! You have a great son ! Keith in Valdosta Ga
No one would ever go for the 10M because there’s no logical reason to choose one percentage point over another. When you’re dealing with ranges, you can justify that it would be between 23-33 and not, for example, 53-63. But there’s no reason to choose 22 vs 23, or 25 vs 26. So here’s how you make it enticing to go for the 10M. You give them a 3% range - their exact answer and +/- 1%. If they hit it right on the exact answer, they win 10M. If the answer is outside that range, they lose and drop back to 100,000. But if the answer is 1% point off, they don’t win the 10M but they stay at the 1 million (they don’t drop down). That lessens the risk that to a point where some people might think about going for it.
It's not really that bad if you lose anyway, because even if you did happen to lose if you were crazy enough to take the massive risk, you still walk away with a tenth of your earnings which is still plenty to live on for a few years.
Devin - with respect to your point about everything being a "power of 10" - that's defeated in the final game anyway because the odds of winning the 10M are 1 in 11, not 10. And it is appealing to the producers to give a safety net simply because if no one ever goes for the grand prize, people won't watch - i.e. ratings. But you do raise good points.
+cicholdebannan in mathimatica (if 11 peple try to continious this game) 1/11 have taken 10.000.000$ and 10/11 100.000 in total 11.000.000 so no Ev. but in fact is no reason to try the exact nymber, just because is 1.000.000$ is super enought. The tv if he continuous the show and choose the number 29, he maybe tells that the correct answer is 28... MAYBE!
Here's another sign as to how no one would EVER go for the 10M. Once Drew explains the rules, i.e. the risk vs. the reward and the odds, listen to the audience SCREAM: "NO! NO! NO!" I would wager there wasn't a single person in the entire studio or watching at home saying "go for it".
i was say no in a heartbeat.... but then again where else can you find the 1/11 odds to win 10M$.... its tempting certainly but you gotta know your limits.
Well actually Drew Pablo Puente got this job before he was hired for TPIR so after CBS cancelled this he was offered the Price job & the rest is history
how can you hate on drew carey, hes just doing his job. His job is to make it exciting to watch and the point of the show is for entertainment not to just give money away for the hell of it.
Ever since the scandal that was NBC's original run of Twenty-One (the movie "Quiz Show" is a fictionalized account of this), there are laws in the US against rigging game shows like that. No game show producer would ever do that, because they would almost certainly get sued for way more than 10 million dollars.
Paul S Of course it's a better chance than the lottery, but it's also a greater risk (lottery tickets aren't $900k). So a 1/11 chance to get 10 times your money... So it's about the same (probably even a little worse) than playing the lottery. (Lottery is about 1/100000000 chance to win, but the reward is about 100000000 times the money you risk.)
Only $2000 was won on the second episode, proving that winning the big money is not really easy at all. Jamie just had a great gauge on the American public. More will, and winning $10M, though very difficult, is possible. This show is a winner in my book.
This is probably the lesser known of the game shows hosted by Drew Carey. He was definitely a lot more famous for hosting The Price Is Right. But *THIS* was Carey’s greatest instance of shouting “YOU WON A MILLION BUCKS!!!” Better than any TPiR Million Dollar Spectacular!
Cutie! haha. Good for him! It would have been funny if the mom was like, "Now you're going to med school." and he went, "Mom, you know I want to go to art school."
We need more with this stupid strike going on!!! Shows like this asks reallly good questions about America and how people live and think. Drew is a double hit with this and The Price Is Right, I'm really happy. Merry Christmas To You!!!!
"Here's how confident the producers were that we were not gonna give away a million dollars: we didn't even rehearse the bit that's coming up!"
Probably the most real statement ever spoken by a game show host. Love it!
Drew has always been real with his audience which I respect about him.
This is the line that made him host of The Price is Right.
"You won a million dollars!! First show, first contestant."
And that is why the show is off the air
What a Good Way To Start Of Power Of 10 $1,000,000
Meanwhile...on The Wall...
I remember this and the final question and I guessed 29% highly doubt I would have ever gambled a million to go for it, but it's incredible to think that back in the day if I was in his shoes I would've had it right.
6:43-- yo screams out from the audience "TAKE THE PRIZE BIIITCH"😂🤣🤣
Gee Zee 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Gee Zee 😂😂
I did not even notice 😂
Drew's more excited than the contestant. That's the best host you could ever have. Always brightens up the mood, always laughing or smiling, gotta love him.
I love Drew's reaction to him winning the million. He really wants the contestants to win big.
I love Drew's reaction when he screams "You won a million bucks!" :D He's great!
What gets me is that moment at 2:31 where Drew looks really sad this kid might not get it... and then everyone's shocked look when he makes it! :) Hosts that care, I love it!
"you still have 100k and your college is paid for" lol, maybe half of it
Man, I love Drew Carey's reaction to him winning. He gets so excited for contestants on that show, as well as on Price is Right.
And that's why he's hosting TPIR even today.
Yep, I'd take the million. You'd be pretty silly not to.
I was hoping Jamie would go for it but I was the same age Jamie was at the time and to me to go $10 million and still leave with $100,000 seemed like something great to do. My dad explained something called taxes and now at 31 I see how right Dad was.
Probably one of the coolest gameshows I've seen in a long time thanks to Drew Carey being so enthusiastic and an audience that isn't scripted.
Drew Carey: "U won the million bucks!!!!!" 2:36
lol I feel like Drew is desperately trying to make him gamble for the 10 million dollars, as if the producers told him ''I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO OR SAY, JUST MAKE HIM GO FOR THE 10 MILLION SO HE CAN LOSE, WE CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY 1M FIRST SHOW FIRST CONTESTANT!!!'' LOLL

Only sad thing is Power of 10 only did this one season. It was a hit & Drew did a good job
Fat drew is funnier then skinny drew.
Did I hear that right? First show, first contestant? How long did the show last?
Was cancelled before the fall.
5 months.
It certainly didn’t last long
Better than Australia's, ours was cancelled after 2 episodes after the second episode had LESS than one THOUSAND viewers over the 5 capital cities.
Didn't last long, but you could consider this Drew's audition tape for TPIR.
This show is getting better with every night it's on, and so is Drew. Also, I think we now realize that winning the BIG money is not easy at all, the way it should be, you really have to EARN it. So, any time the million or even the ten million is won it will be exciting.
It is a smart fun show that certainly makes you think.
i love Drew, he is so funny and you can tell he cares about the contestant and enjoys the moment as much as the contestant
Alright which one of yall yelled "TAKE THE PRIZE BITCH" in this super serious decision making moment? had me absolutely dying laughing over here🤣🤣
Why are you people judging the mom? She just wanted him to make a smart decision, which he did, to walk away. And she was proud of him, not only for winning the show, but because he is going to med school. Nothing wrong here.
i love how drew was so persuasive to the contestant to try the question so that they can still have a chance to just give him 100k rather than a million lmao

drew really likes when people win, genually gets excited for them. He really is a good host at this and price is right
"This show is not even going to get through the first season..." -Drew Carey
little did he know he was right LOL!
And now he's 15 seasons in as host of The Price is Right.
I bet he knew very well he was right. He could tell the show was broken.
Yes! The Power of 10 is one of the best new game shows in primetime today (up there with 1 vs. 100 and others, we hope).
It's time to play... 10 MILLION DOLLAR GUESS!
From the makers of Million Dollar Heads or Tails!
Haha
I'm glad he won. He seems so sweet.
1st show 1st contestant hits a million!
one HELL of a hangover. You could host a small concert!
For those of you wondering... he was only RISKING $90,000 by going for the $1,000,000 question.
He had $100,000 -- if he was wrong he would still win $10,000
$100,000 - $10,000 = $90,000
So he was only risking $90,000, not $990,000
2:36 HE'S A MILLIONAIRE!!
CBS please bring back The Power of 10, I know Drew's busy with Price is Right but either have him host this again or at have someone else host it please!!!
cutemimi25 Rich Fields!
Angie2343 I like what you're thinking.
cutemimi25 I once imagined him as a contestant, and when Drew asks Rich what he needed the cash for, Rich responded "To get back at Fremantle for firing me from Price, and start my own show."
Angie2343 That would be awesome.

I saw it too... I couldn't believe it. That must have been a REAL heartbreaker for that guy.
Jamie played the game well and I am glad he won $1 million on the first show. Power Of 10 comes back on January 2nd, 2008!!! Drew Carey rules thank you very much!!!
Absolutely fantastic. Congrats on your son's win Sue, I hope he does well with his money.
2:35
Executive Producer, Mike Davies: You're fired, you're fired, you're fired, ALL YOU FUCKERS ARE FIRED!!! x-( x-(
sent here from planet money.
Love Drew's Reaction at 2:34
What a way to begin a game show, with a $1,000,000 win for the very first contestant! If more game shows of this sort started out this way, it would be awesome! And Drew's reaction throughout the clip is priceless! "It's my dream to give away money on this job."
And that’s the reason why the show’s off the air.
After taxes,
You've won $450,000!
But congrats to him anyway.
Drew's gotten better On TPIR & He'll get better as Years Go By He's good for this Show I hope it comes back soon I Love How He Says "YOU WON A MILLION BUCKS"
Best Contestant Ever on Power of 10 is Jamie Sadler wins a Million Dollars.
Stiven Bonilla Jamie was one of my favorite contestants too. I saw this with my parents and I was very happy to see this dude win $1 million. I was hoping he'd go for $10 million but my dad who understood money better than me said Jamie did the right thing.
Damn, I love Drew.... He's always so happy when people win! He's awesome!
Because he can relate to the folks on Price.
Way to prove the producers wrong!
"This kid won't last a commercial break"...(later that evening) "You're all fired"
I wish they would bring this show back I liked this show
7:47 that was so smart of you not to go for 10 million
I know one thing though, CBS recently have had bad luck with their game shows, and giving away big money early in the shows run
Has anyone ever tried answering the 10M question? I think it'll be the dumbest thing to do to gamble 0.9M based on pure luck.
it is luck cause it's most likely their survey, and other surveys give other awnsers so I agree pure luck
Stephen Chan No other person won $1,000,000. Only Jamie Sadler won it. (Ergo, no one after him got to even ATTEMPT the $10,000,000 question.)
Oh I see. It's not too surprising though since this show involves a lot of guess work, unlike Who Wanna be a Millionaire.
Stephen Chan One person did on a foreign version of The Power of 10 they lost it.
cutemimi25 wow! I'll never understand what these kind of people was thinking haha.
3:54 Drew: This show's not gonna get through the first season if we keep up like this.
Well, he wasn't wrong. That's WHY the show got canceled, the very first player won $1 million.
It was already a different time than from when it felt like WWTBAM was just giving hundreds of thousands away.
This is simply one of the best game shows made for a long time, marred by one of the weakest final rounds ever made.
Could there ever possibly be a $10,000,000 winner if they aired the show for a hundred years?
he isn't going anywhere. but the IRS is cackling with glee and rubbing their hands together!
holy shit i guessed 29..........
still if i was in his place i would've done the same thing.
Good for him! As a college student myself, I know how much that money can help. No student loans, he can afford a car/insurance/gas, he can buy a house, groceries...haha that's awesome. I'm glad it was a 19 year old winning instead of a 45 year old. :)
Anyone come here because of Planet Money?
yes!
Yes.
+
Same! I wish there were actual episodes. This is basically the only clip I could find of the show.
Yes!
When I was a kid, we also had this show on TV, but with the main prize of like $ 300--400 thousand.
OMG the producer would have killed himself if this kid had won the $10m
Ummm... shit. How can we make the kid go for $100,000,000?
@@Novacaine_07 "Uhhmmm make him guess the exact decimal for the $100 million"
Yeah I agree The Power Of 10 was a great game show. This kid Jamie is my age and he played the game brillently. I'm glad he won $1 million and now his college is paid for and he can buy some other things on the side.
The producers of the show apparently weren’t very happy with this and that’s why the game show didn’t last long
CBS also gave out $500k on the first episode of Winning Lines too. I miss the crazy big money game show era
I'm happy he won $1,000,000. Happier if he'd won 10X more though.
John Falsarella ñ
Really? Well, GOOD LUCK TRYING TO GET THE EXACT % TO WIN IT. YOU WOULD BE STUPID TO RISK $900K TO GO FOR $10M.
$1,000,000 is enough for me...he did the right thing and I would've done the same thing even if I was right for $10,000,000. Bravo :)
No one would ever go for the 10M because there’s no logical reason to choose one percentage point over another. +Jdgaf unless you're Dan Avila
These are so happy moments ^^
IT'S THAT DREW CAREY?!
yes
Drew Carey was suppose to be in the price is right, not the power 10.
Well actually Drew Pablo Puente got this job before he was hired for TPIR so after CBS cancelled this he was offered the Price job & the rest is history
da Silva is the best way to get to the next few years ago but damn you SUCK! 👹
$100K would definitely cover it if you did 2 years at Community College and finishing the other 2 years at a 4 year.
420, Bob.
how can you hate on drew carey, hes just doing his job. His job is to make it exciting to watch and the point of the show is for entertainment not to just give money away for the hell of it.
Be smart, Even thought you got the right answer,
The TV show can just change it to another answer
So you'll never get 10 million lol

3:20 It's clear, sadly that the mother only wants his money.
Growing up with him ur exactly correct
the presenter is amazing.... he was happier than the winner.... good for him
stupid game show. Would anybody risk 900,000 dollars on a 1 in 11 chance.
Better chance than the lottery. Besides, even if you were wrong, you still leave with $100,000, which is nothing to laugh at.
+zz0mfgz also with gameshows, you dont exactly have the money until a while later. your risking imaginary money until you get the taxed check
+James hui the thing is that the expected value of a random guess is more that $1 Million
the hosts were SCREAMING in the hosts ear for him to persuade the kid to gamble and lose the money. These shows cant afford to lose this type of money
Best million dollar win ever!!
Only $2000 was won on the second episode, proving that winning the big money is not really easy at all. Jamie just had a great gauge on the American public. More will, and winning $10M, though very difficult, is possible. This show is a winner in my book.
Very Obscure Show.
How cool is that? xD First show, first contestant, first million. "This show will never get through the first season" xD
He was gonna be grounded the rest of his life if he tried to gamble.
The first show, the only time it ever aired, and the guy wins a million dollars. No wonder I haven't heard of this show.
Look at mom jumping her best jump
You're wrong. You're so wrong. This is a smart show that is actually one of the better new concepts for a prime-time game we've seen in a while.
Good for him...I've watched this show on GSN, and it's extremely hard, harder than you'd think.
lmao keep on replaying 2:37 "YOU WON A MILLION BUCKS!
dymn i missed this show was lookin forward to watch it.
the mom so wants some of that money. I would of been like "yeah i love you too... and ill see you in twenty years after i've spent it all. "
Very first show, woah. that's amazing!
Cutie! haha. Good for him! It would have been funny if the mom was like, "Now you're going to med school." and he went, "Mom, you know I want to go to art school."
Win 1 mil in Canada and you get to keep all of it. No tax. Great job on the first show.
The kid has the most infectious smile.
Mmom is screaming out "NO", and dad is just sitting there laughing :)
We need more with this stupid strike going on!!! Shows like this asks reallly good questions about America and how people live and think. Drew is a double hit with this and The Price Is Right, I'm really happy. Merry Christmas To You!!!!
If I had won a million bucks when I was 19 I would have blown it by now. I hope he doesn't, what a cool guy
Mom "OMG I'm so proud of you! Now you can pay your OWN way through college!"
i love the presenters laughters =D
2:36 YOU WON $1,000,000!
The game is called power of 10 but the range of the numbers 23 and 33 include 11 numbers... not 10
LOL at Drew Carry "YOU WON A MILLION BUCKS!!! YOU WON A MILLION BUCKS!!"
On The Vietnamese Version, I found a people who beat the 4th question
