I think its a 350 bored 30 over with 750 carb, headers and probably nothing much more but could use a mild cam upgraded plugs and thicker wires, performance fuel pump, and a carb rebuild, im just guessing....
I had a 1979 Chevy C20 with a 350 and it would run great when it was cold and after it ran for a while, The engine would start running like crap. After some careful inspection, I found that two of the wires that were inside of the distributor were almost severed other than 2-3 strands of copper wire per wire. I replaced the distributor with a ReMan distributor and the problem was solved.
Man I love old squarebody Chevys so much. I'd like to get one some day. I got a 93 Silverado myself, that's been sitting for over a year now, needs throttle body and brake work done, but I'm broke as Job's turkey and can't get it repaired.
Glad to see yall put ac delco in there i suggested to hank that bosch just doesnt hit right in chevy. Ive had a miss in my engine since i bought a new long block from gm my dad put bosch platinums when i wasnt looking. I installed the engine and had a miss since day one now swapped in ac delco idles so smooth you can hardly hear it running

@@JMRRebuilders When you are dealing with a no spark issue most often it is the ignition module, But you should always feel the wires inside the distributor to see if there are any wire poking through the insulation.
@@JMRRebuilders My 1979 3/4 ton Chevy truck as I said would run great when it was just started up and I could drive to one of the adjacent towns around Versailles KY which was roughly around 10 miles and as I was rolling into the city limits, The engine was very badly misfiring and coughing. I could stop somewhere and shut the engine down for a while and the engine would start and run great until I guess the copper wires would heat up and pretty much lose conductivity. And yes, After swapping out the distributor my engine ran absolutely great like the engine in the video. Of Course, I am referring to the classic HEI distributor that was around seemingly forever.
Up until I figured out what the issue was, I absolutely was about to pull my hair out. The OEM Chevy distributors were very easy to cut the wires when replacing the distributor cap. The wire loom idea was definitely the way to go.
@@JMRRebuilders I actually made it a point to watch the video again due to a comment directed my way regarding conversion to a HEI distributor which was already there in plain view in your video. The HEI distributor appeared in the very late 1974 to the 1975 year model and beyond and was a huge improvement over the points distributor. The correct headlamps for a 1979 Chevrolet Square Body were a single round sealed beam headlight on each side. I am guessing that the front grille was definitely a JC Whitney specia. The more square looked to be what I remember to be probably a 1981ish look with the square headlamp on each side in which evolved into a 4 headlight configuration towards the middle to late 1980s. The beautiful thing about the 1973-1987ish square bodies was that most everything interchanged.

Looks like a later front end if that's a 79. The slant-nose didn't start til 81. And I don't know about running those new spark plugs in with that electric ratchet, but that's just me. LOL. Cool truck for sure, just needs some black paint on those red areas under the hood, right? Good stuff, guys!
Yeah that red needs to black for sure. I think the orignal truck was a 79 and then they took all sorts of trucks to make it what it is now. Thanks for comment and support
