Hey guys, wonderful seeing a bunch of young'uns tearing in to my favorite ride. Not to criticize any, but it's not a panel wagon, it's a Willy's Utility Wagon. First, it has glass in the sides, and 2nd, it's 4X4. If it was 2WD it would be simply a station wagon. Also, despite what the title says, double check a Willy's VIN registry and see if you can find a build date. Alot of these wagons would sit on a sales lot in to a new year and get THAT year on the title. Seeing a small block Ford was no surprise either. Usually it'd be that or a Chevy. My '60 had a 327 out of a '68 Camero. If the gearing had been different I swear it would have out run my '69 Corvette!! Some 35 yrs later, I have a more finished '59 Utilities Wagon. I noticed some question about parting out or not. For all your trouble, I'd say it's got more value as a running, driving wagon. Rust & all! And no self respecting Wagon that survived the '70's with its Ooga horn ought to suffer such an ignoble fate. All these years later, it isn't the Vette I missed! It was my 'ol buddy the Willys. Value? Running... maybe $5K and up. The more you fix it up, the better it's value. It's shocking, actually how things have gone up, what used to be fairly pedestrian and seen more often. Even in the Pacific Northwest you don't see 'em much. Great to see this video! Keep it alive!! 👍
One of my favourite Willys, buddy had one in the late '70's and there were many adventures, pretty easy to work on and back then parts were still cheap, loved them and the old Power Wagons, fun vid folks, thanks for sharing!
I've never gotten over my fear of working on a carburetor. It seems straight forward enough but the adjustments needed to get the mixture right gets in my head.
I get that thing mechanically sound, clean up the interior and the glass and drive it around just like that..... moss and everything..lol. Nice job guys!
Nice job, excellent team work to get this old Willys panel wagon going. Great video camera footage from all the different angles. Good to see the younger generation enjoying these older vehicles.
i had a 48 overland with 3 on the tree-i had so much fun getting it running with my dad's help-ran for years-it hauled a lot of deer, put a flatbed on it and haul 30 bales
I had a 53 all wheel dr and it had a Chrysler 6 flathead looked original found out continental rod bearings. Wouldn't fit looked up the numbers had another w the continental
Reminds me of my first Willy's wagon. I traded a 1950 Dodge pu for it in 1978, I was 27 years old and thought I'd hit the jackpot. On my 5th engine (sbc) converted to a Muncie 4 speed in 82, It's still the jewel of my fleet. Hope you have as much fun with yours as I've had with mine. It's been as far south as Ensinada Mexico, North into British Columbia, East to Dallas - Fort Worth and now lives in Northern California.
Loved the lock washer comment😂 Has an officer on my ship that thought all the lock washers on the engine were broken! Never had seen a lock washer in his life!
I am from India. This is a very very excellent truck. Do be fixing it, and decorating it for festivities. You can get new springs for 150 thousand rupees ( $37). You might look like slum dogs now, but wait until that thing is washed and painted... I am from India.
Nice job guys. Take it from someone who has resurrected my share of cars. Wash the truck. It may not seem important but seeing a clean vehicle will give you more impetus to continue working on it.
Great vlog guys hope we will see more of this wagon please. so good to see youngsters doing the jobs correctly to well done all. cant wait for the next vid please try to include complete steps of things you do thanks.
Marvel mystery oil! Saturate those pistons and let it work it's magic! Cool rig guy's! I had an old Willies when I was 16, 2nd vehicle I bought, first being a 56 Chevy Apache when I was 15. Both were great old rigs, easy to work on, and that jeep would climb a tree in 4 low! It wasn't a wagon, it was a truck with a heavy duty flatbed and wood racks. Loved that thing! Cool rig, I'd just get it mechanically sound and drive as is!
Los veo en Honduras, ese es el mejor 4x4 que ha existido, hecho para trabajo duro, fui cazador y tuve dos Willys pickup, no necesitaba caminos, íbamos abriendo brechas en el monte, magnífico vehículo.👍👍👍
If its a standard, Put oil in the cylinders and Put it in 4 gear, Pull the truck and pop the clutch, she will free up.I started a Big block ford 460, sat in a 3/4 ton for 31 years, It freed first try.
We would have done more before pulling the transmission, but when we replaced the starter, we realized the bellhousing was full of sand so we wanted to take it apart anyway.
Yes there will be more on the jeep. We have some decisions to make regarding the drivetrain, however, as whoever swapped the engine used an adapter casting of unknown origin which allows for only two bolts to hold the transmission to the bellhousing. A such I don't want to start dumping money into it until that problem is solved.
Reminded me of working with my buddies on old Morris 1000s and Austins in the 1970s lots of fun! Just subscribed and looking for more content. Way to get stuck in.
Thank you for using a tripod. So many car repair channels are unwatchable due to nauseating handheld shots. It's rare I fine one that I can sit through for more than a few minutes. Thanks for sharing!
I couldn't believe seeing that Suntune temp. gauge . Haven't seen any Suntune gauges since the late 70s . Kmart sold the brand , gauges and dwell/tach and timing lights . The mech oil pressure was notorious for leaking . 👍
That was AWESOME. Reminded me spending time with my two brothers before we even had a license to drive! Must see more! I for sure hit the subscribe button and gave it a BIG Thumbs up!😀❤
Was going to comment that at the end you should have pressure washed it then sprayed it with some old oil to keep it from rusting more. But then decided that the rust is probably the only thing holding it together. hahaha Cool old wagon.
That looks like a Ford engin?? What in the world is that doing in that old Willy's I would have figured that truck for a flat head! I'm just glad you youngsters are after it, vehicle like that should not have been left.Really nice to see among the young guys interested in old stuff
I am SHOCKED, absolutely SHOCKED! You guys got the farm shop cleared out enough to actually get the Willies in under cover. AMAZING! :) It hasn't been that cleared out in ....... ummmm..... probably 40 years. Well, enough of that, I do have a couple of questions; what is the little burst of flame seen at 8:50 to 8:56 just above the right headlight? What did you use for the clutch plate alignment pin at 35:22? A 38:00 it looks as though there is a crack across the bottom of the flange that mates to the bell housing, is that correct? When are you going to tackle the Road Grader?.........Reminds me a lot of the resurrection of the Put Put. :) Hey, you could name it Put-Put II.
Clearing the shop has been a slow but rewarding process. The burst of flame is a backfire from the Carb which started a small fire on top of the engine. We used a plastic alignment tool that came with some past clutch job, although the pilot pin had to be turned down, the splines matched being a somewhat standard 10 spline by 1 1/8" shaft. That crack is the result of what the person who swapped the engine did to adapt the bellhousing to that intermediate casting flange. They brazed on a steel plate to the cast housing. It is not structural at all, unfortunately, meaning that only the top two bolts are holding things together. This is the greatest mental impedance for us when considering where to continue the project form here. As for the road grader, we recently got a 40ton porta power pancake jack to remove the wheel hubs so we can extract the final drive chain. Hopefully. we will film the Put-Put's second revival for UA-cam before too long as well. Thanks for Watching.
@@PlateauFarms Thanks for the reply! Good to hear that the grader is on the list of revivals. :) It's always an "interesting" experience finding what others have done to a piece of machinery in order to repair or "upgrade"n it. You mght be able to beef up that braze then turn the steel plate flush with the face of the trany and have a workable solution to the bell-housing/trany mismatch.
Next time we work on it, the first thing we'll do is wash it. Just thought it would be a funny visual; seeing it drive around covered in moss and ferns.
I'm 64 years, I've had several Scouts and jeeps. I never messed around with this 'will it run' nonsense. I dragged the vehicle home and started replacing the obvious and fluids. Replace plugs and wires, and every single Scout I bought (7) needed the carb rebuilt.
I loved the video about the Jeep wagon my parents had two Willie's panel wagons we are in the beer business in 1950s I always thought they were cool looking how'd you get the V8 I remember Willie's Power Wagons had a 4-cylinder F had what they call the hurricane motor.

Fortunately, it looks like many parts are still available through aftermarket sellers online. Thanks for watching.
@@PlateauFarms check the oil, first.
Nice to see young generation interested in old.machinses. i recommend cleaning out the carb. All that stuff in float bowl will clog jets. Good job!

Patina sucks. It needs panel and paint.
Great job guys glad to see younger guy's working on this older stuff you've earned my subscription
We have plenty of 'old stuff' waiting to be fired up so stay tuned for more.
Needs a good pressure wash @@PlateauFarms

Great save in progress. Congratulations!!
Your in luck young man, the engine conversion has been made. My 55 had the Continental 226, nothing but trouble till it went to the dump, have fun.👍

Just a tip for holding a bolt in your socket … put a bit of rag or paper towel around it and put in the socket holds great🤠👍
Home run gents! I hope you know what a beautiful place you live in, and the ability to put such gems as this back on the road! God bless!
Fantastic! I loved that shot of you driving and looking down at the non-existent floor haha! Great job.

I had two of these, both with the small-block Ford. I pretty much ate the entire supply of T90 parts in western Washington with those trucks,
A great revival! with some TLC she could be back onthe road. Onward!
The frame and Drivetrain are in decent shape, it's really just the body that has suffered so much deterioration.
Terry Thomas's character in "It's a mad mad mad world" drove one of these. Full restoration required.
Funny movie, saw it in a cinema theater full screen. Maybe I'll try to find it on UA-cam 😂
