OMG. Far Rockaway Queens. 15th Street handball courts that was our beach. That is one of the best hoods ever in the Queens New York. You take the boulevard all the way straight down you come into halfway to Brooklyn. Great video you just made my day of giving me flashbacks of when I was a young lad growing up in Far Rockaway Queens. 15th Street beach handball courts with the place to be back in 1980 to 1999

I'm from Brooklyn, and being a NYC native I can tell you this. There are some places in NYC that are their own bubbles; their own ecosystems. Regardless of which borough these places are in, they operate as rogue communities and really insular. Far Rockaway is one of those places. It's in Queens, yes, but it's so isolated from the rest of the city that it is almost it's own borough. Really different vibe and atmosphere from the rest of Queens and NYC overall. Other places in NYC like this are: -Coney Island (Brooklyn) -LeFrak City (Queens): This one is tricky because it's not on the outskirts of the borough, but LeFrak was almost a self-contained community. Drs offices, grocery stores, etc... made it so that people didn't even really have to leave the complex. -Harlem (Manhattan): It really has little to no relation to the rest of Manhattan. Saying you're from Manhattan and saying you're from Harlem are almost like saying two completely different things -Red Hook (Brooklyn) -The Hole in East New York (Brooklyn) -Coop City (The Bronx)
Accurate! Also, Rochdale Village in Jamaica, Queens it’s a Mitchell Llama Co op. It’s similar to Co op City and Lefrak city . It had everything, including a Power Plant and Long Island railroad station! When the city is in black out, we had lights! #qgtm
Born and raised in Far Rockaway! I was also a part of Stan's double dutch team at the PAL. Good memories of when I used to be able to jump speed and do freestyle routines, aka flips and tricks while jumping.

This young Queen did a Great job showing Far Rockaway. I was born and raised there. She really pointed out things I really didn't think a young Queen her her age would know. She hit on the PAL, the library, Wavecrest (My brothers lived there) and the truth about the hospital situation. Yesssss, the bungalows.... that is the truth, (I remember the old one's)how does she know. I grew up there and I am almost 60. She really knows Rockaway. My children went to PS 106 too!! My family and I came from Russia to the US in '92 and I grew up in Far Rockaway from 9yrs old until end of high school (went to Beach Channel HS). Had a great childhood there, always on the courts playing ball with friends from all over. Great summers, beach life, the up and down rollercoaster of growing up. It was a very important part of my life and taught me a lot about how to get along with people of all sorts, and not just being isolated to one group or set of ideas, something that many in the local Russian community wanted to have my mom worry about. People told her to send me to a Jewish school on Long Island because it was "safer", but my mom felt it would be more valuable for me socially to be exposed to a full range of differences instead. She was absolutely correct. I was always surrounded by lots of diversity and different cultures and found great friendships and experiences in all of it. Will always have a place in my heart and great memories of Far Rockaway. Great video! Thank you!
I'm from Los Angeles born and raised. I travel to New York a lot. I love the scenery and culture. So different from the Westcoast. Was just there in February . Will be back soon. Much love from the Westcoast🌞🌴🌊 to the Eastcoast🍏🗽🌊

Far Rockaway was my 2nd home growing up, my Daddy(RIP) lived there for years in Wavecrest. I haven't been there since 2000. Im just tearing up at the memories of the beach, eating at Subway around the corner, going down to Mott Ave and getting Rotis from Ali's and that Beauty Supply Store. Regi did a great job!

The energy in this video takes you there it's almost like time traveling. Beautiful energy and the queen delivering the message was everything she needs her own show or blog 👏👏👏
I loved your video and I share your enthusiasm and love for Far Rockaway, even though I have moved-on. I was born 70 years ago at the Rockaway Beach Hospital and baptized at St. Gertrude's RC Church on Beach 38th Street . We lived on Beach 43rd St in Edgemere then moved to Dickens St in Bayswater. I moved to Wavecrest Gardens in 1972 when I married. Just like you, my first school was PS 106 (I recall it had a lot more trees and plantings surrounding the premises). I'm glad it still survives. Just like you, I too got my first library card from the library located at Mott Ave & Central Ave (Beach 20th St) probably around 1957. At that time the library was a beautiful, ivy-covered brick and stone architectural gem. It was one of many [Andrew] Carnegie philanthropic financed libraries in NYC and around the U.S. Sadly the building and all the books contained within it were destroyed by fire in 1962. Unfortunately it was replaced by an uninspired structure that is thankfully, as you happily explained, being replaced by a real modern library. I share your joy! I look forward to viewing your future projects. Hopefully more about Far Rockaway :)
I'm from NYC love how people keep saying they love our NYC accents. Funny thing is living here you realize there isn't one NYC accent. All the five boroughs have their own lil accent. But thank yall for loving our accents. BING BONG!! LOVE MY CITY DAM IT. By the way the Bacon egg and cheese on a roll is a NYC staple. As well as the Chopped Cheese. They are Bodega specials..

I love this documentary!!! Very informative and teachable to those who inquisitive about the Far Rockaway, NY. culture. She was a very true queen and represented her neighborhood.
Being from California, I’m always shocked when I see people while it’s snowing and not going crazy. Lol Here, we have to travel to the mountains to see snow and even then it’s amazing.
I feel you,I'm from Memphis and was up in Michigan and the snow was dam near knee deep and I was scared like "chicken little"when the sky was falling while the people that were actually from Michigan were going to and from like it was nothing
@@nolannolan7323 like most places it has it VERY good as well as VERY bad but for the most part it's beautiful city with beautiful people lots of history, lots of things to do and see and it's actually a pretty important city and LAWWWD HAMMUSSY don't get me started bout the bbq and soul food in some duck-offs and hideaways 😂I live in Evansville Indiana now which is the total opposite of Memphis not very pretty, not much GOOD history, not a lot to see or do and the food leaves alot to be desired 😑but I'm going home in a week or so and I can hardly wait
So many memories. Raised in Redfern projects. Left Far Rockaway in 2002 and haven’t been back to NY in years. Wow things have definitely changed, yet still remained the same. Thanks for the memories ❤️
Lovely video. It's great that this beautiful woman with a good head on her shoulders from our hometown of Far Rockaway put an emphasis on her educational experiences and brought up the importance of it to our community. Thank God for her!
This video and her story brought me to tears fr. I’m from corona queens, had a similar family structure as hers, just more toxic and codependent but my family moved to jersey during the pandemic where I was for a year + and I wasn’t rocking widdit so I saved and moved myself to Bushwick. Its like diff roomates, everything isn’t as close together, just not the same. So gentrified and these people lack the etiquette that I’m used to but this is my journey. As a young queen in this I hope my spirit stays as steady and strong as hers❤️
Bro this is my hometown!!!!!!!!! Let me tell you about by hometown we grind hard work hard we are the kindest people you will ever meet and we are also passionate

Thank you for the great video. I grew up in Far Rockaway (Beach 27th Street) during the 1960s and 1970s. Moved out West in 1979; haven't been back to Far Rockaway since 1980 (yeah, I'm an old guy). This video brought back memories, but also made me realize that if I went back today, I probably wouldn't recognize it. I've felt led of late to pray for Far Rockaway and its people. Again, thank you for the excellent video!
In 1981 I had spent one month residing in 19th street very close to the ocean beach commuting every morning to Manhattan by the A train and return in the evening. I was 27yo and it was a nice experience. Thank you for this beautifull trip down memory lane.
I grew up in Far Rockaway (Brooklyn, too), went to FRHS, JHS 198, spent my teens in "town" on Central and Mott. I left in 1973 and have been back to drive through a couple of times. Thank you for this. It made my day!
Wow this world is so small!! Thank you for this, I was walking down memory lane right with you! I grew up in Far Rock and I also lived in Wavecrest, and I used to go to that same salon, went to St. Mary’s and all that!!!
Just amazing how she captured the essence of the city just by being who she is..very charming, charismatic and articulate Beautiful sista❤ #queensbaby🙌
@@chyummy It crazy she said something about Jones Beach. No if not mistaken I remember Nas say something about Jarome neace got shot on her home from Jones beach. It was the song call one love off the the album illmatic. Now I could be wrong on how I said if so correct me it been along time since I heard that song but yeah she did in amazing job on the video.
Far Rock just hits different - not home right now and seeing this made me genuinely happy. + seeing the library getting updated I had to do a double take. It’s been there for deadass decades.

She is beautiful with a good vibe
Beautiful 💙
I agree! :)
Yes. She’s beautiful and very smart.
She aight
Love seeing stuff from New York
I'm from NYC love how people keep saying they love our NYC accents. Funny thing is living here you realize there isn't one NYC accent. All the five boroughs have their own lil accent. But thank yall for loving our accents. BING BONG!! LOVE MY CITY DAM IT. By the way the Bacon egg and cheese on a roll is a NYC staple. As well as the Chopped Cheese. They are Bodega specials..
That lady is awesome. She can be an inspiration to so many women / girls coming up today I think.
I love NYC videos. New York is on a different level. Yea don't forget brooklyn.

She is Gorgeous and very intelligent i pray God bless her entire community She is well Spoken...and God bless you and your entire community also for having the courage to do this Wonderful interview Peace king.
I love this documentary!!! Very informative and teachable to those who inquisitive about the Far Rockaway, NY. culture. She was a very true queen and represented her neighborhood.
Being from California, I’m always shocked when I see people while it’s snowing and not going crazy. Lol
Here, we have to travel to the mountains to see snow and even then it’s amazing.
it's cuz we're used to it, my cuz from Cali couldn't even handle 40 degrees lol
I feel you,I'm from Memphis and was up in Michigan and the snow was dam near knee deep and I was scared like "chicken little"when the sky was falling while the people that were actually from Michigan were going to and from like it was nothing
@@mackjuan2232 Memphis, would love to visit some day.

Moved out of NY 5 years ago. Glad I did but still miss the culture now and again.
I love her--she has a beautiful spirit. When she went to the hair salon they wanted to hug but they did the Post Covid very light fist bump instead!
You look familiar you live out here in farrock?

@Tré 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You know and i know the readers and viewers may not know but Hempstead is NO WHERE NEAR FAR ROCK its a 45 to 1 hr drive in traffic. You gotta hop that N31/N32 from the Terminal damn near to the last stop before u hit the Rock 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 If you said 5 towns or Rosedale i probably would of let you slide on that one 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Much love to her! 💕Thank you for portraying this important history of sadly disappearing neighborhoods in NYC and many other places. 🙏🏾
In 1981 I had spent one month residing in 19th street very close to the ocean beach commuting every morning to Manhattan by the A train and return in the evening. I was 27yo and it was a nice experience. Thank you for this beautifull trip down memory lane.

Wow this world is so small!! Thank you for this, I was walking down memory lane right with you! I grew up in Far Rock and I also lived in Wavecrest, and I used to go to that same salon, went to St. Mary’s and all that!!!
Is 40s project building still there ?
Me too Shanequa. It’s like a memory lane for me too. Just moved out from Wavecrest to another state
