    Thank you for this video! So glad I found it. I had just bought a Yaesu FT-25R and couldn't find anything on youtube any more helpful than how to chew your toenails! To my relief, it seems the FT-25R is very much similar to the FT-65. Glad I found this. Very helpful. Thanks again!

    Hi there. Thanks for the video.
    I’m in Ireland ☘️ and bought one of these to help me study for my HAM radio exam.
    Do you know of a good UA-cam channel that might teach me how to fully use this device from a beginner’s point of view? 👍

    Thanks for this review. I’m a relative new Ham that’s just getting active. I have a Baofeng UV 5RX3 that I purchased primarily to access the 220 band. I was looking at the FT-60 as an everyday carry (EDC) ht; however, since ham is just one of two,other hobbies the FT-65R seems to have enough power and features for a less than casual user. There is very little traffic between 700 and 999.990 in my area - maybe 10 channels of activity. And 5 active 144 repeaters.
    I would appreciate any thoughts on comparing the 60 and 65; I get the impression that the 65 is NOT a replacement for the 60-it seems to be intended for a different audience. Thx. Mark, K3DEX.

      Overall I think the ft60 is a better radio however the ft65 is a basic radio with excellent functions for the price for sure

    I purchased the ft-4xr, and the transmit audio was so low (everything pertaining to transmit audio set to high). Did not want to ship the radio. I purchased a speaker mic to get some audio out of it. This series of radios is like the baofengs, evidently, in that you may get one that works fine, and you may not.

    In the market for a new field radio. Do you feel this is a good HT for that? Also, the speaker and mic jacks, Kenwood style or Yaesu spe ific? de KB9MNM

      An FT60 is good.

    • @3henry214
      @3henry214 2 роки тому +1

      The spkr/mic jack spacing between the pin is closer together than the common Kenwood style, so it's Yaesu specific (proprietary).

      @@wolffo999 My only real complaint is the Owner's Manual. IT-IS-A-JOKE!
      I literally had to watch SEVERAL UA-cam Videos to learn its operation. I ended up making a "Cheat Sheet" that lives with the radio in my Go Kit.
      Otherwise, the receive &Transmit Audio are fantastic; though I would like it if the Volume was a little louder. In my opinion, is it a keeper? Yes.

      @@wolffo999 Th FT-60 Manual is far and away better than the FT-65nInstructions. I've owned BOTH Radios and know this for a fact. That being said, I chose the FT-65 as an Emergency Radio for Two Reason:
      1. I think its a bit more rugged than the FT-60.
      2. If anything WERE to happen to it, $90.00 is a lot easier to handle than $170.00.
      The FT-65 IS a Stout, very well built little Radio. I DO give it a Thumbs Up.

      @@wolffo999 The reviews that others on youtube hav done, are pretty accurate, based on my own experience with the radio.
      While it is NOT a VX-6 or a VX-8 (I own one of each of those), in my opinion there is a DEFINITE place for the FT-65!
      The FT-60 is FAR easier to program from a beginnier's standpoint, but that being said, I think the 65 is better suited for SAR and plain everyday use.
      MY group likes to use the VX-6 as our "Duty" radio SOLELY for its 220 Mhz feature. There are VERY FEW 220 repeaters in our area, and since most reporters who have scanners know NOTHING about 220 for the most part, we go THERE if something 'sensitive' needs to go over the air.
      220 has other TACTICAL advantages as well.....I personally LOVE that band!

    Would you choose the ft65r over the ft60r for standard repeater work?

    • @dennishenderson6988
      @dennishenderson6988 3 роки тому

      The FT-65 is a good radio for “standard repeater work” and a great starter radio in my opinion. I recently bought a ‘65’ and I have an FT-60 too.
      The ‘65’ is getting good signal reports and it is relatively easy to program and the 3 year warranty on both is nice. Program repeaters with keyboard is fairly easy, or via Chirp with the Yaesu cable, and you are on the air.
      The ‘60’ is a better, quicker scanner, a better receiver, and superior build and reliability make it my choice for must-work expedition type usage.
      I say the ‘65’ is a great starter radio, especially if you just plan to program a few repeaters, and is appropriately priced and featured relative to the ‘60’.
