    To tune a saved channel you select the memory channel, press band button. You should see a small "tun" text flashing on the left corner of the screen, just punch the new frequency in or use arrow keys. At least this is how it works on my FT65E purchased recently. Maybe they updated the firmware or something to make it easier.

      What Michal writes will allow you to temporarily tune to a different frequency. To save your edits permanently, you need to follow a couple more steps. After entering your new frequency, press and hold the *v/m button. Then use the up/down arrows to select the number of the channel you want to edit. (It will be flashing on the left side of the screen.) Then press and hold *v/m again to save your edit.

      What if you’re already on the memory channel you want to edit? Would you just press V/M again?

    I'm an old Advanced Class ham. I have made a few hundred contacts back in the day, mainly on the 15 and 20 meter band.. I have been inactive for a long time. I picked this rig up recently and am shocked to see how complicated it is to simply use. I may have to find a local ham to help me, as I still cannot make a contact even after watching this video multiple times.
    I am trying to put in the Short Mt TN 146.910 repeater info as well as 146.490 simplex. Plus a few other middle Tennessee repeater. Wish me luck.

    I'm glad to know that I'm not the only ham that uses the -V or -U or just adding the V or U to the suffix of Memory Channel Names in general. Admittedly, I use geo-locations for Memory Channel Names when possible. Here in STL Metro, locations like: BellvV or BellvU for Belleville, IL. Edw-V or Edw-U for Edwardsville, IL. Mary-V or Mary-U for Maryville, IL. AltonV or AltonU for Alton, IL. DtStlV or DtStlU for Downtown St Louis, MO. Clay-V or Clay-U for Clayton, MO. Arnd-V or Arnd-U for Arnold, MO. HighR-V1, HighR-V2, HighR-U1, HighR-U2 for the High Ridge, MO repeaters (6 or more). Etc. It really depends on the total length of the Name permitted for the Name by the individual radio. The FT-65R permits up to 8-letter character names. Making it one of the better ones.

    Great Video! I love this radio but it is especially -quirky- Even more so than UV5 so your video is mandatory unless you want to drive yourself crazy. I have one repeater that has UHF input and VHF output, especially tricky - but you can save the VFO result to example P2 if you want. The memories don't support long offsets. The radio itself feels good in your hand, it's the radio you are proud to have with you.

      Good question. I haven't played too much with external antennas. I could tell you to start away from the super short antennas, they are horrible (some 40:1 swr) . I do have a chart where I tested all the antennas I own, let me try to dig it up when the painters finish that room. Also, if you buy an antenna, but from a reputable dealer - if you weren't aware, there are quite a few fake diamond and comet antennas out there.

    I’m a newbie and this is my first ham radio, got it a couple days ago. Haven’t yet figured out how to access my preset repeaters. Obviously, when programming the radio (as you’ve shown), the preset # is displayed-such as 8- yet I cannot figure out how to actually get to 8 after it’s saved! Sure. I don't have the radio in front of me at the moment but you should be in memory mode to get to 8. At that point you could either use the up and down arrows or you should be able to type in 08 or 008. Give that a shot. Memory mode is typically shown with a V/M button. Again, I don't have a radio on me so I'm not completely sure where that button is on the 65

    • @3henry214
      @3henry214 Рік тому +1

      CHIRP works, but the pin spacing is proprietary (closer together) from the Boafeng, so you need to buy a Yaesu cable, also if you want any plug in accessories (mic/speaker, headset) you're stuck with Yaesu.

      I no longer have this radio but found this : "Unlock Transmission Range - MARS/CAP Mod . Party on. Allows you to transmit on non-ham bands like FRS. Expanded Transmit Frequency Range: 137.000 - 174.000 MHz and 420.000 - 470.000 MHz.
      To Enable the Mod: Turn the radio off. Hold down PTT and the middle-side button (T/Call) while you turn the radio back on. You’ll see “F1 SET.RST”. Then type in 32406665. The radio will reboot itself. Repeat to undo"

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  3 роки тому

      What frequency? It may do that because ARS is deciding for you what shift you should be on based off the frequency. Or if you change frequencies in VFO mode, that may reset it

    That’s a great video! It really helped me understand how to program my FT65. However, I got a problem with two repeaters here in Philippines, I can’t input repeater shift: (-) 6.78m. I notice it has an incrimental +25m or -25m... meaning my nearest point is 6.77m or 6.80m... is there a way that I can reduce the incriment from 25m to 5m, so that I can input 6.78? Thank you for helping me out

      Hello, I don't have this radio anymore. As I recall from other comments, Yaesu only allows for 0.05 offset increments. to change the offset , look at page 28 of this manual - www.yaesu.com/downloadFile.cfm?FileID=13236&FileCatID=151&FileName=FT%2D65R%5FE%5FOM%5FENG%5FEH066M105%5F1710C%2DFC.pdf&FileContentType=application%2Fpdf Hopefully that will help you!

      If you can hear the repeater but not transmit, you probably have the wrong CTCSS/PL tone in the radio or there is a possibility that you are too far to transmit, but you can still receive. I would need more information. Do you have a PL tone in the radio?

    How to change the step of the repeater shift for this radio station?

    • @HAMRADIODUDE
      @HAMRADIODUDE  3 роки тому

      Hopefully this will help: Disable ARS (automatic repeater shift) (option 24 repeater).Once ARS is set to off, in the same menu (option 24), you should be able to manually adjust the repeater shift. To do that, select shift, hit the F button, and use the up and down arrows to adjust. I believe that's the accurate instructions, but I no longer have the radio to confirm. Good luck!

    Your video is very good with your totally confusing why can't you just program frequencies in repeater from 1 to 10 instead of putting all these labels in putting your call sign is fine but it's just overwhelming I rather have all the frequencies in from 1 to 10 or 1 to 20 I don't know why you're going through all that it doesn't make sense to me yes your call sign that's great but the rest of it is just your way of beating track
