You guys rock my socks off. You literally are the best band when it comes to layering different instruments as well as being freaking awesome! Your music is very enjoyable. Hope your day is well and btw, level 26 on skyrim, argonian.
@Danelawz An Answer: Neither. We want it to be music that WE can be proud of. We honestly don't care about being ground-breaking, because how the hell are you supposed to do that anyways? Seems like kind of an arrogant goal to me, and we wouldn't bother catering to listeners because everyone will want something different. So we stick to writing stuff we want to write, and if you want to listen, then more power to you!
@m4ssee That ibanez 8 string actually rules. And we used different guitars for different parts too, so the Dell'isola 8 saw a lot of use today as well!
@jesusisagirl 5150III is the poweramp, that goes out to a mesa oversized cab which we are miking up. Just trying something a little different this time around, something that can't be replicated in a bedroom since, once again, we actually went through the trouble of going to a studio haha
@lectwar extraneous string noise will not be noticeable live, but it honestly wouldn't be an issue anyways. It was moreso the setup of the guitar that was causing us issues, the a/c in the studio destroys every setup we perform on a daily basis haha...
@JackLeft13 It's kind of a riff, but its also just the first half of it haha, you will hear it on the final product, pretty proud of that whole section!
What's that guitar at the beginning? Really cool. I have been playing drums now for about 6 years but I'm really interested in learning how to play guitar, particularly 7 and 8-string guitars.
@Drumtome Actually, it was a comment about Mark being the serious one haha. But then again, if we didnt do these videos after working 10-12 hour days every day in the studio, then the fans would bitch about not getting updates. I guess no matter what you do, you will always get people complaining...
@theflawedspecies What makes you say that? Matt prefers to track alone apparently, but they're definitely live. Blended samples softly with the drums for a little more attack, but mostly natural tones.
nice vid, i picked up an 8 string yesterday and glasgow and couldn't play it for the life of me, so i went with a 7 string ibanez instead xD 1 string at a time, awesome riffing guys :)
Dear Mr. and/or Miss Periphery, First off I would like to say that I'm a first time listener, long time fan. You guys make some pretty good riffs by using all of those strings and frets! Pretty cool! I know you guys must get asked this a lot, but I'm curious to know what equipment you use for as far as power strips go. I usually stop by my local Ace's Places hardware store and get a three pack for $7.99, but is it possible to get a better sound with something else? Perhaps GE or even Monster?
@MetalWebbo and the money too! If we didn't do live drums we could record for free, but we love you guys and want to give you something special and awesome!
@Jordy666sic We wouldn't lie about that. You can believe whatever you want honestly because i could care less, but when you hear the album you will be able to hear the difference for yourself.
@MetalWebbo Yeah except that we actually did live studio drums this time around, or else we wouldn't have bothered going to a studio now would we haha?
@MetalWebbo That wasn't my point. I've seen them live twice and was hoping for Matt playing it live on the album! It's just that the said in previous videos that they tracked the drums live, but it doesn't quite sound like it, but we'll see when the album drops.
Hello Periphery!you play tmorrow in my country, Portugal.with Dream Theater.but i can't go see you guys..no money for concerts now =/ just tell me one thing..what guitar and what pickups are those?
@IPlayGuitarAndStuff1 I too would like to know if it is a LACS Ibanez or if it is just a paint job that someone added to a normal Ibanez 8. I'm gonna guess that it's just an aftermarket paint job.
@TheMetalBogan its 2 notes, its not a hard thing to play, the guitar's setup got fucked by the a/c so we were trying to work around it instead of having to resetup for those notes, in the end that take didnt even make it, so its fine haha
@Periphery my bad, that was a misreading on my part from something forever ago. i thought it said "tom was adding backing vocals and string parts" rather than "the record features tom on backing vocals as well as additional string parts"
@Jordy666sic You clearly have not seen these guys live. Who cares what is used as long as the best sound is delivered. Matt sure as shit can play it live.
hey i'd just like to say i fucking love you guys i was turned onto you guys by a friend about three months ago and you guys are already one of my favorite bands of all time you're all fucking amazing. by the way i was wondering im trying to learn how to play frak the gods but it seems that im having a problem with the rythm and timing any tips you guys could possibly share that might help? also i want to learn icarus lives! but i only have a six string is there any way i could play it if i tune.
@D4arknessF4lls7 thanks man i appriciate it. iv'e just been trying to play everything in D because i couldn't figure out the tuning and i've looked for tabs and found none
@Eye4Fail The "normal" album is first, then Juggernaut is coming as soon as they can make it happen, around 3 months later at the absolute earliest they reckon. I think that it's gonna be more around the Jetpacks Was Yes concept rather than Icarus now, I think they mentioned that in an interview, but obv Icarus Lives was part of the original "Juggernaut" series.
What happened to the swirly 8 string? Can I buy it off you?????
@Periphery thanks guys :) new stuff is sounding KILLER! Let's get you all moar swirlz.
damn, wasnt expecting to see ben eller here lol
@@surfingkiwi828 me neither 😭😭😭 even after 11 years lmfao
Everytime I feel sad and awful, I watch these, and the problem just seems to solve itself.
THANK YOU BASED PURERIFFERY

"It takes two people to play guitar."
"It takes two people to shut the fuck up!"
xD
I think about that swirled rg8 a lot
I really like that riff. A little more melodic than past stuff and I really REALLY like it.
those riffs have so much potential it's unbelievable
You said it. Ji is a top tier song
You guys rock my socks off. You literally are the best band when it comes to layering different instruments as well as being freaking awesome! Your music is very enjoyable. Hope your day is well and btw, level 26 on skyrim, argonian.
Hey man. It's a standard Ibanez RG 2228. Misha got a custom paint job done on it and it's loaded with EMG808X pickups.
@Danelawz An Answer: Neither. We want it to be music that WE can be proud of. We honestly don't care about being ground-breaking, because how the hell are you supposed to do that anyways? @MyxHarnett Thanks for your opinion! Hope ya dig the album when it comes out!
"You nailed it, Nolly! You did good too, Mark."
"YPNP!"
that guitar is beautiful!!! For real!!! I want it
@jesusisagirl 5150III is the poweramp, that goes out to a mesa oversized cab which we are miking up. Just trying something a little different this time around, something that can't be replicated in a bedroom since, once again, we actually went through the trouble of going to a studio haha

That guitar looks and sounds so cool!
"you weren't bad either mark" omg i laughed so hard xD
I keep going back and listening to the riff mark plays at the beginning. seriously that shit is fucking sick
favorite riff on the album
so awesoomy (awesome&groovy)!!!
I love the click track. It honestly is the best sounding click I've ever heard.
Ji, hands down, the best track in the album.
Man, Mark's guitar playing is so tight. It would please any man for life.
i loooooove Mark
the riff that mark tracks in the beginning is so epic
@JackLeft13 It's kind of a riff, but its also just the first half of it haha, you will hear it on the final product, pretty proud of that whole section!
What's that guitar at the beginning? Really cool. I have been playing drums now for about 6 years but I'm really interested in learning how to play guitar, particularly 7 and 8-string guitars.
Derpa Herpblum! Digging that riff @ 0:58 - 1:16 looks fun to play lol.
When are we gonna see Matt laying it down? :D
Misha's YPNP at the very end gets me every time
@Drumtome Actually, it was a comment about Mark being the serious one haha. But then again, if we didnt do these videos after working 10-12 hour days every day in the studio, then the fans would bitch about not getting updates. 0:42 does anyone know what song this is? its sound so soothing!
Ji from P2

@Periphery That's good haha. I don't suppose you'll plan on coming to New Zealand on your next tour? Ypnp?
MARK HOLLY HOLLY STRAY FROM THE PATH, RESPECT!!!!!
@Periphery You should be! I keep coming back to that riff/section over and over again.
-:D
That's a beautiful guitar, sounds great! Any guess on when this album is coming out? (I thoroughly enjoyed the subtext btw)
@djent12 It's not a custom, its a stock Ibanez RG2228 with emg 808x pickups and a custom swirl job by Ben Eller!
I am very excited for the very first song in the video
KILLER tone.
Cheers,
Robin :o)
is it just me or does misha seem MUCH more calm and natural on an 8 string than mark?
@MetalWebbo and the money too! If we didn't do live drums we could record for free, but we love you guys and want to give you something special and awesome!
The metronome they are using sounds really good.
@Jordy666sic We wouldn't lie about that. You can believe whatever you want honestly because i could care less, but when you hear the album you will be able to hear the difference for yourself.
Good gig and Cheers!you guys rock! \m/ =)
@MetalWebbo Yeah except that we actually did live studio drums this time around, or else we wouldn't have bothered going to a studio now would we haha?
JI is the best thing that ever has had happened to my face!!!
Finally periphery unleashes the 8 string
that riff make me buy their album, and now I'm a Peripheral!
honestly, i've had 0:18 - 0:40 stuck in my head since this was uploaded.
@MetalWebbo That wasn't my point. I've seen them live twice and was hoping for Matt playing it live on the album! It's just that the said in previous videos that they tracked the drums live, but it doesn't quite sound like it, but we'll see when the album drops.
@jacksonradio123 the 5150 is a power amp for the axe fx, which then runs into a mesa cab
this has probably been asked a bunch of times but are you going to show us some of matt´s drum tracking?
Hey it's Johnny! I started learning mixing with your videos over a decade back. How are you?
@@djentlover that´s awesome. i hope my videos helped back then. i´m still alive and kicking. currently working on new music.
@@ForTiorIJohnny Cool, I'm glad you're still active with music. By the way, I'm a full time mixing / mastering engineer now. I owe you haha
This were so pretty riffs. Especially the first part was really sexy
Matt playing in the backgorund track, wow
I lovely the 5150 3 amp he's playin... I have a 5150 2.... No big deal... :) and the second riff displayed is what it's all about :)
Hello Periphery!you play tmorrow in my country, Portugal.with Dream Theater.but i can't go see you guys..no money for concerts now =/ just tell me one thing..what guitar and what pickups are those?
Does anyone know if they are just using the 5150 iii for power for axe fx?? Looks like it's on clean channel
i dont know, the guitar isnt even pluged into it
@@alyusdickey9561 Taylor Larson has answered this question so many times, and I forget the answer every time lol
This new album sounds really kick-arse!!
alright!thanks! you guys rock! cheers! =)
That begining riff is tasty can't wait for the new album, anyone know when it comes out?
I give him props for being Filipino! :D Can't wait to see you guys in Manila next year!
the painting of the 8 strings axe is awesome, is that a "swirl technique"?
got freakin damn mark is tight as shit with his playing. I hope I could get to that level some day
Mrak tearin up the 8 string. Lovin dat shit
Ji is still top of my list for P2
@IPlayGuitarAndStuff1 I too would like to know if it is a LACS Ibanez or if it is just a paint job that someone added to a normal Ibanez 8. I'm gonna guess that it's just an aftermarket paint job.
how would you guys perform the 2 person part live?
@PianoWireAbortion i didnt know he was working on interlude bits...
Saw a thread on Jemsite about that RG2228 a long time ago. The guy who swirled it posted a few pics. What happened to the Swirled EMG's in it???
@ClarenceGarcia You guys rule at Parallel Parking!!
@Periphery
And that's why we wub you guise. Putting the effort in in where it counts :D
that intro riff kicks ass
@ibanezRG93 i love both of those things!
I hope there is still some heavy djent stuff though..
@jesusisagirl they're using the 5150iii as a power amp for the axe fx to get moar awesomeness
@TheMetalBogan its 2 notes, its not a hard thing to play, the guitar's setup got fucked by the a/c so we were trying to work around it instead of having to resetup for those notes, in the end that take didnt even make it, so its fine haha
@TheJonabel the first video is him, but the second one is misha
@Periphery my bad, that was a misreading on my part from something forever ago. i thought it said "tom was adding backing vocals and string parts" rather than "the record features tom on backing vocals as well as additional string parts"
Mark has just such huge hands, every time I see them, I can't believe it!
Ppiliph Nhaj he makes the 8-string look like 6 and a half lol
What pickups were you using on the 8 string? EMG-X's or Bare Knuckle or
what ever?
@LostInNumbersMusic i'm sorry, i don't understand what do you mean can you explain plz?
Taylor finished it the other day, but they're being very quiet about a release date. I'd assume some time after the Protest the Hero tour is over.
@Jordy666sic
You clearly have not seen these guys live. Who cares what is used as long as the best sound is delivered. Matt sure as shit can play it live.
Do you guys actually like the tone of the EVH head? Or not really, and you just wanted to use the power section for the AXE?
Tell us pls about how you record this album , do you use di from axe or 5150 power + cabs or both?
hey i'd just like to say i fucking love you guys i was turned onto you guys by a friend about three months ago and you guys are already one of my favorite bands of all time you're all fucking amazing. by the way i was wondering im trying to learn how to play frak the gods but it seems that im having a problem with the rythm and timing any tips you guys could possibly share that might help? also i want to learn icarus lives! but i only have a six string is there any way i could play it if i tune.
Id like to see Matt tracking for the album. Wheres that footage? Mark is sick. That is all.
The ending soundclip wouldn't happen to be Sponce reciting Periphery's favorite lyric, would it?
So which of the albums is coming out first, the new concept album spinning off of Icarus Lives! or a non-conceptual album? I realize there's 2 coming.
@D4arknessF4lls7 thanks man i appriciate it. iv'e just been trying to play everything in D because i couldn't figure out the tuning and i've looked for tabs and found none
Are those White EMG808x's? The tone!!!! the 5150III the Green Channel! OMG!!!!!
That is seriously the coolest looking eight string ever. Fuck.
the last tag in the description is win !
are we gonna see some drum tracking soon?
Is the Axe fx connected to the 5150's effects loop?
Haha, Periphery never sleeps. They just keep updating their Facebook and answering in UA-cam comments 24/7.
