- At the Tour Down Under Jon was lucky enough to sit down with Adam Hansen of team Lotto Soudal, to chat through his custom hand-made carbon shoes. They're extremely light and therefore fragile too, watch the full video to see the thought process behind them...

I once shortened an inner tube from 24 to 22 inch, to fit a smaller weelsize. I was making a functional rustbucket to put at trainstations out of two wrecked bikes I got for free.
I'm quite proud of that one...
...it stil got stolen tho, obsly
I built every bike I currently ride. In fact, I just finished a new bike last week.
I now have a carbon fiber lowracer (2016), a chromoly Cruzbike Silvio Clone (2017), and now an aluminum hyper-aero bike.
I built my own mountain/gravel bicycle frame. I made it from Columbus Nivacrom OR tubing.
What size, Adam size! 😄
I've made a pair of aero bar extensions out of pvc pipe just because it's super cheap and I didn't want to spend too much trying a different style
we need Adam Hansen to join GCN Tech as a permanent host. Make it happen Jon!
I could listen to Adam talk about tech stuff all day, someone needs to get him on a podcast
Max Nelson hell yeah they do!!!!!

I think I know who's getting a Valentine's card from Jon this year.
Lol
The moment when Jon remembers the model of shoe DMT made. Adam face is a look of love ❤. @6:41
One of the coolest guys in the peloton. What a nerd. :D And I mean that in the most positive way. I mean, Jon is a self confessed nerd, but when Adam talks about how to make a shoe, even Jon is amazed and listening with his mouth wide open. Good stuff. More content with Adam, please.
He‘s always so humble and nice. One of the most sympathetic riders out there.
Always like when you guys bring Adam H. on! The man who can do it all!
Jon's man crush on Adam is almost as entertaining as Dan's on Froome.
This guy is a one man R&D army, absolutely amazing what he's done
Really interesting about the cleats being so far back- would make a good GCN does science video comparing cleat fore/aft position.
GCN definitely do cleat position vs Power
I think if you are like me and pedal with your feet pointing slightly down that moving the cleats back would mean a lower seat height, and slight aero gains.
www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/bikefit/2011/04/power-to-the-pedal-cleat-position/ Great article here from Steve Hogg about cleat position. Been using a mid-foot cleat position for a few years now and I really like it.
Adam's feet have their own bike frames! Now that's Metatarsal Gains!
This guy knows his way around a bike. One of the most informative videos ever.
What an absolute gent Adam Hansen is, so down to earth and planted. Which such genius ideas that he just happens to knock up in his shed in a week or so
Another informed interview with an extraordinarily creative athlete. Thanks, Jon.
I love that Adam shares his knowledge and time with us over the shoes. There are CF companies watching this to get his experience and methods, I'm sure.
You need to do a full hour-long show just with Adam Hansen! This was just a brief intro and you only just skimmed the surface with this interview.
Jon looked genuinely star-struck there! 😀I’m giving this video a supernice!!
Adam should collab with Rob Hayles.
One of the greatest characters in cycling... Thanks!
What an amazing interview. What an amazing guy. Was wondering if he's a gourmet chef and a brain surgeon too. Very impressed and look forward to a future interview with him.
What can't Hansen do?!
What a very interesting bloke Adam Hansen is.
Jon is in love! He is fanboying so hard.
Very cool interview with Hansen. He's a very smart guy who isn't afraid to work with his hands. He could start a business after he's done cycling.
Adam's great. It always makes me smile when I see he's doing well in a race.
Adam seems like a genuinely great guy. Thanks for sharing him with us Jon. Great video.
I love these techno geek sessions..I could watch these forever non stop..suppose I worship the machine
I absolutely love adam hansons inventions. Awesome video.
The peering through the shrubbery freaked me out.
Cool stuff there. Hats off to Adam! I'm also a type of tinkerer but doing my own carbon shoes is such a high level and beyond my imagination I won't probably ever achieve on my own.
All round legend. Did the Al Ain classic along with him and a few other pros. Was happy to chat to everyone 🤘🏼
Adam Hanson & Rob Hayles are very similar people. Very creative with a "lets have a go" attitude. Soooo interesting.
Best Super Geek video! Who thought shoe tech could be so cool?? Jon did. Amazing!!!! Thanks GCN, Jon, & Adam!!
This guy ohhhh man this guy is legend
sanyukta Lele I'm newish to my new found passion...I've had similar thoughts about making equipment for myself. I'll use this mad scientist as a reference point;-)
@@SprayIgniteBoom best of luck
What a fascinating and energetic and inquisitive guy. That was amazing.
H A N S E E N O!
absolute legend. As a mechanical engineer i am fascinated. Really want to make my own shoes!
Adam is a true Renaissance man. Now I’m inspired to do some cycling related hacks
I learned how to 3D model and print recently, and I've had an absolute blast making fairings for my bike and have had some serious success with that, but the holy grail for me is to do my own shoes like the lad himself.
Jon's way to do his videos is amazing.
Fascinating chat with Adam Hansen. I just wish I had the innovative idea and ability to come up with solutions like his. Seems a proper good lad too
A bike fit expert recently told me my cleats too far back. Moved them 5mm forward. The day after my first ride with new set up: shin pain, foot pain, ankle pain, calf pain, knee pain. Think I'll revert to me original "wrong" position!
I hope you didnt oay £300 ofir bad advice😢
Adam is such an amazing person, kinda jack of all trades, great video!
Really glad you made this video Jon as I've had a keen interest in Adam's shoes for while and have toyed with the idea of making my own for the hill climbs where every gram counts... I wonder if Adam has experimented with other composite materials like Aluminium soles or resin impregnated fabrics?
I love this clip! Literally brilliant! This is equipment geek gold. I am just blown away to his attention to detail and form following function. 👏👏👏🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
Such a super dude, proud that he rides for a Belgian squad! Also for comparison, the lightest shoes u can easily buy are the Giro Prolight Techlace at 150gr, these are more than a third lighter!
Adam Hansen is the man !
"Is the office open?" This man is a saint. Just hearing that gives me hives.
Great feature , !!
Need more like this !!
Adam ROCKS !
JON ROCKS !
Great Adam is Awesome as well as your show definitely need him on again
Absolutely fantastic video. What a gent giving so much of his time. Great to see two people being so passionate.
This dude is freaking awesome!!
Absolute legend, we all want more videos with Hanseeno !!!
I make my own frames and forks.
Need more from Adam
this guy probably takes care of his shoes better than I take care of myself!
What a gentleman!
Amazing thing works perfectly
Jon looks so much like a student attending a lecture im surprised he wasnt taking notes!!
THE most interesting cyclist and so humble. More of Adam, please.
What a great video, anytime you have Adam on you yoke its all going to to fascinating.
Adam Hansen rules!!!!
What a lovely bloke 👍🏽
Currently making a bracket to strengthen the area around the bridge on the seat stays of a Cinelli track frame so i can put a rear brake on but reduce the stress on the bridge so it doesn’t collapse. Some might say it’s heresy or mad but it’s fun (i just don’t want a fixie, sorry). Also drilling the top tube to hide the rear cable having bought some recessed cable guides
17:30 Jon "Hook up again..." oh my, it's getting serious
Best Hack on GCN videos!
In a game of inches, this is won by a couple feet!
'So, to provide some reasoning, if you were going to kill a rat with your foot ...'
Top bloke. Remember him from WeightWeenies (Zakeen?) as being an really decent and knowledgeable guy. More from Adam please!
If I could have some shoes made only for me, I’d be as happy as Larry! Good on you for the vid.
Yes bring Adam to GCN he is so smart
Adam what a top bloke
He can’t sit still that lad and has a compulsion to dismantle things. Fascinating!
Absolutely ingenious!!
The man behind the shoes are even better. Kudos for an amazing interview
Another composites guru
I want more content like this.
I love Adam Hansen, such a cool guy
I can't even cook an egg propperly and this guy makes ultra high tech shoes.
What an absolutely amazing and talented fellow. How cool to just listen to him! Thanks!
Super Video! Bitte mehr davon!
Great profile! Adam seems like a really nice, well-rounded guy! 👍🏾👍🏾
Wow, great to hear Adam :D
Thank you, GCN, for producing such a niche video. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and loved the simple presentation of two interesting and interested people having an illuminating discussion. Thank Jon and Adam. Kudos to you both.
It won't be long before Adam H is filming his piece for meet the presenter for GCN. 🤣🤣
Impressive guy in every sense.
What a cool guy!
One of the best if not the beat g c n interview I’ve seen. - top dude Adam Hansen 😎👍
He shares a similar pedal philosophy as James Wilson from Pedaling Innovations in terms of foot position on the crank. Interesting
Hansen episodes are some of the best! You should try to have a monthly thing with him.
How about a competition for Adam to make one extremely lucky subscriber a pair of shoes?
OMG, great chat with Adam!! Loved it!!
Fun interview. Thanks Jon
Well done Jon ,fantastic Interview .
This is an interesting chat...especially about cleat position. I ride with the cleats right back since it tends to give more power. I can point my toes down, which seems to give me more power through the bottom of the stroke and then also allows me to pull on the way back up. Obvs, I cannot keep this up for long, but in a bit of a sprint it seems to work. This is just me, and I am pants on a cycle, but I was going to ask this question.
As an engineer, Hansen is one of my cycling heroes.
Need a Rob Hayles, Adam Hanson collaboration.. that really would be something!
There is a GCN Does Science video. Does cleat position affect power output? If so by how much.
Pragmatic Aussie attitude, Need something? Have a crack at it mate.
We all need someone who looks at you the way Jon looks at Adam.
I NEED A GCN PRESENTER BIKE SHED TOUR
Jon's man-crush. He's almost blushing at the end :-)
Always enjoy a chat with hanseeno. Woulda been nice to hear what he thought about stiffness vs flexibility rather than stiffness vs lightness though.
