Majorly underrated song here by Philip Bailey. We best remember him for his duet with Phil Collins on 'Easy Lover', but MAN, Bailey easily performs an incredible song here. 🙂
I'll be honest....I could take or leave this song back when it was "in the charts". I heard it today, 37 years later, and all I could think was "What a bloody beautiful piece of music." Far, far more wonderful than I appreciated as the kid I was in 1985.
@@elowishusmirkatroid4898 I think there's some truth in that. The station I listened to back then (the wonderful Laser 558) played this a lot....and I listened every time. But part - a big part, I suppose - of me was saying to the station "It's OK. But where's Depeche Mode? Where's Kim Wilde? Where's Simple Minds? Where's Eurythmics?" Philip Bailey was pretty much an unknown concept in this part of the world - other than his duet with Phil Collins - and maybe that went against him when he released this beauty?
I didn't really know this song "back then", but there was another track from Philip's Chinese Wall album, called "Woman", which had huge airplay here in Greece in '85 and '86 (I think in some other European countries as well) and even though I liked it just fine, I wasn't wowed by it or anything. Flash forward almost 30 years, when I'm doing some "serious research" to create personal Top 100 lists for every year from 1970 to 1999, and I hear it again. "What a bloody beautiful piece of music" was sort of my reaction as well. And yes, it was harder to appreciate some stuff in its time, due to the sheer volume of excellent songs and albums coming out on a weekly basis. Nowadays, not so much...
Yeah now I’m older and don’t care about being cool I like all this music that I thought was crap when I was younger … but I wish I still looked younger .

I wish radio stations played more of this nowdays rather than the 40 year old repeats over and over again daily, there is so much great music out there from the past
This was one of my mom's favorite songs, every time I here it I think of her! She passed away on October 3 2019, one day after my sister's birthday! My heart is so empty without her!
You have underestimate the popularity of the song...I've heard it played on some of the popular radio stations here in Jamaica and is one of my favorite songs by Phillip Bailey and Earth wind and fire is one of my all time favorite group,..so brilliant,.❤️🥰🎀🇯🇲🤸🌟💎
Everything is deemed racist or not "diverse" enough (translated: wimmin only) which is probably why we have crappy anti septic and emotionless muzak. For starters, the song is sung by a black man. These days we have actually gone backwards and you'd be lucky if u could even have a scene with a black man and an Asian woman 😛
Gets to me every time smh it’s simply beautiful the drums ,the horn .........that voice !!!!!!brings me to happy tears . God bless the 80s ! WE MISS YA !BEST TIMES EVER
By the time Philip Bailey pursued a solo career in 1983, Earth, Wind & Fire had passed its commercial peak. I don't believe many people made the connection with him being the co-lead singer of EWF, as songs such as "Walking on the Chinese Wall" were drastically different from what he did with EWF.
Used to hear this gem growing up in the 80’s. Didn’t know Philip Bailey. Only to find out he is the legendary voice in the Earth Wind & Fire Gems …and Easy lover with Phil Collins🔥
Life now is not good, the quality, and I don't even have any problems. Every day The Great And The Good tighten their stranglehold and make it incrementally worse with their incomprehensible stupidity and blind greed, in plain sight. To be able to put a soundtrack of the 80s on is priceless. How can anyone not feel better after hearing this wonderful song? Sometimes I am even happy with an 80s soundtrack playing.

"I know you're just 16 but looking all of 21, that's because Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiineeeeeese look older'' If there's anything with chinese in it. Philip Bailey will be involved.
This is such a wonderful song, well sung by the great Philip Bailey. It's one of my favorites from the same album. The second being "Easy Lover", his duet with the equally legendary Phil Collins. 😎👍🎉🎊🈴🉐㊙️㊗️
Phil Colins produced this album. Apparently Philip Bailey was a fan and wanted to do a song with Phil Collins, and when they called him it turns out Phil Collins was a fan of Earth Wind and Fire... you will hear the horn section of EW&F on Phil Collins albums too, he ended up producing this album for Bailey. We only benefited from their cooperation. :)
What a beautiful song. It’s been about 10 yrs since I last seen this video. Phillip Bailey has recorded many classics through the years. And his collaboration on this album with Collins is great. Phil Collins all over that drum part. I know his playing anywhere.
com certeza os trompetes são ideia de Collins, remetem muito as músicas dele, e tem o back vocal... que tb percebe-se eles ali ! bateria tem uma abertura maravilhosa
one of the best things about 50 years old,is the fact that i lived my teenage years in the 80's that is priceless and I am grateful !!!

I never know PC was doing the drums but it makes sense hey.

Collins was in love with Philip Bailey, on the down low
This song is now 30 years old...and it has not only held up, it surpasses most songs you hear today. This is the epitome of a timeless classic.
Yup!
iflyTony It's criminal that this classic only has 283 thousand views.
iflyTony Totally agree and it wasn't even a big hit in its time, which I could never understand!
Claudia Brown I guess we were spoiled for choice back then. Not so now.
Claudia Brown Great song Bailey had a high pitched voice,I thought this song was 1986
Phil Collins drumwork on this song is just amazing
I'm guessing those trumpets were his idea as well. Distinctively Phil.
certeza... trompetes é o mesmo estilo das músicas de PC, além disso ele faz o vocais de fundo
Karl Pilkington's "Songs of Phrase" from the Ricky Gervais radio show brought me here :)
if it's anything about Chinese people Philip Bailey will be involved. That's all I can say.
He used it at least twice 😂
So underrated this song/singer...timeless.
Not In my mind
"If it's anything to do with the Chinese, Philip Bailey will be involved."
With love from South Africa 🇿🇦

No. I came here because this was a minor hit some odd years ago. And because Philip Baily used to sing in Earth, Wind & Fire.

Well said. I remember it well, upon it's release in 1985. I was and still am impressed.
The entire album is absolutely fantastic!
Best song on the album
No Brasil foi um sucesso estourou!
Não gosto de easy lover😢
You can just tell that Phil Collins is all over this and his 80s drum sound.
Absolutely & doesn't it sound so good, the two Phils also collaborated on Easy Lover, another great tune of the time.
This my song my 2 Phil's and the PHEONIX HORNS 🎷 🎶
Not a thing wrong with that.
He produced the album, too.
Amazing- I think he also does backing vocals 👌🏻

There's just something so mesmerizing about this song.
+Harry D. The way the instrumental part just elevates you emotionally and mentally. It is a song of excellence.

Damn close to it 😅❤
Bailey, actually did some great solo work . This is one those gems most have either forgotten or never knew existed.
I love listening to songs that hardly ever get enough or got enough airplay yet they're some of the best songs that exist out there even today.
