Doug and Stacy you are heart and soul to keeping this community together with time of traveling and planning. There’s no telling how many people and homesteads you guys have brought together. Huge thank you to all you do 👍 I will be looking to picking up one of his books. God bless you guys.
This guy praised prince charles, knows him! I’m sure he’s part of the pedo ring to the Brit’s and serving human dna in his chicken Omg what the hell did I just hear here?
Joel Salatin is the patron saint of sustainable farming and permaculture as he has inspired and educated countless people who are now flourishing using his methods! It is so super awesome that yall were able to have a sit down chat with him! I really love these sitdown chats with people who are successful at sustainable farming /homesteading and look forward to more!
Just going back through your old videos. I was so happy to see Joel! I do believe we could heal mother earth and her population with his style of farming. Thanks for having him on your show! Love you guys...thanks for all you do.❣❣❣
My husband and I read "Folks this Ain't Normal" and fell in love. We had already been in the mindset of sustainability and following channels like yours, and the way Joel writes and speaks hits home. I am a homestead homie and so happy to see you and Joel chatting.
IVE ONLY SEEN A COUPLE OF YOUR VIDEOS ABOUT FRUIT TREES. BUT YOU SAVED ME FROM HURTING ONE THAT WAS NO LONGER DORMANT. THANKS FOR THAT AND GOD BLESS YOU
Doug & Stacy I loved this video with Joel Salatin. He was one of the first, I heard of talking about taking care or improving the soil with livestock and chicken's. Blessing's to you all.
"Everything I Want to do is Illegal" is the best title ever for a book about food and farming I think. I've been familiar with Joel Salitin's work for years and look forward to seeing him in person for the first time this fall!
Great interview I've been following Joel's teaching on being self sufficient for a while. He's the reason I started Homesteading. Don't get any better than this.
Just met Joel and the folks at Polyface a couple weeks ago. They were all so professional and friendly. Joel is even nicer in person. I didn't expect to meet him and I regret not having more questions for him, but the let me watch while they were harvesting turkeys. Amazing afternoon. Very grateful.
Wow, Joel! I'm so glad he has written his books for us because he has a lifetime of incredible farm knowledge! He and his wife are incredible resources. I'm so glad he gives talks and interviews too. I hope he knows how much he has helped so many people.
Will need to definitely look into purchasing one or more of his books. Thank you sir for your time in doing this interview..thank you Doug and Stacy for bringing him on and doing relaxed free form interview..it was a pleasure getting a glimpse at his heart.. what a true pleasure
Great, fun interview! Several years ago I ran across Joel Salatin over the internet and he so inspired me that I went out and bought 4 pullets at the feed store the very next day along with organic feed. I had not been able to eat store bought eggs for years because they "disagreed" with me. I was so excited when my first hen laid an egg and couldn't believe how good it tasted! No more problems eating eggs! That's for all you do to inspire us Doug, Stacy and Joel! 💕 ☺
Finally was able to make time to listen to this - was waiting until I could truly pay attention. Everything about this was wonderful, well said (by all three of you) and timely for us as well. Thank you SO very much!
I just finished Folks, This ain't Normal, a great book, thanks so much! Looking forward to his other books. So encouraging : ) Have watched his videos, his tour with Justin Rhodes, Great America Farm Tour...Red Tool House recently featured a company that rents out the whole set up for the day of butchering. it looked very doable, for a beginning farm, maybe not able to afford all the equipment. Thank you for featuring Mr, Salatin : )
Thank you for the video We have read several of Joel’s books. They are so informative. It was good to hear about the 4 year mark. We have been doing this now for only 2 years but we’re hoping to do it full time eventually.
Thanks for this interview Doug and Stacy. Joel is always a delight to listen to and I often find myself 100% agreeing with his messages which are so inspiring, yet so simple. Was nice to hear about some of his personal background. As and Australian, I was glad to hear he had come to visit the Great Barrier reef in Australia.
Great as the barrier Reef may be, I was impressed that he attracted the attention and an invitation to Prince Charles' place in Scotland! YES!! A few years back I discovered what a man of the earth PC was and had his picture circulating and links of his accomplishments in the sustainable and organic realm, people I knew thought I was bonkers! lol Our own Prince of the Field (JS) caught his attention, YES!! And Most watched chicken coop for OGW D&S 4,000,000+!! YES!!
LOVE this one! I am blessed to live very close to Polyface, and As much as Joel may be traveling internationally now, he and his family do immeasurable good for the local area as well. I JUST finished his book, "Folks, This Ain't Normal!" and was further inspired. I think everyone who eats food should eat it so they realize just what our food system is made of.
Creating Essence what part of Virginia is Polyface farms located in? I live about an hour south of Danville in North Carolina and would live to take a trip up there this summer and was Curious how far it would be since it’s so hard to get a full day away from the farm and all the work around here. Ever since I read one of his books I’ve been wanting to go see his farm and I’m really glad to see that he does good for the local communities even tho he has attained stardom. Take care everyone
So glad we got to sit down and do questions and answers with you all on Friday. It was great and so much fun. So much information about homesteading from Joel and you guys.
To locate information back in the day was totally different. Going off grid back then was living on a farm. Not scared to try anything..!! Fugal Living love it.. no kids till I can afford them..LOL. I have a small part time job building mountain Bike’s. Love it and keeps me involved with the mountain bike community here. What an inspiring man. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day all..!!

Hey folks, love your videos. I've been on my farm since 98 and every day is a lesson for sure. About 5 years ago I purchased Joel's book " Folks this ain't normal, it changed my practices completely. Definitely an eye opener. You guys and deep South homestead are my morning coffee go toos. Thanks so much for what you do. Todd and Melissa in Wisconsin peace.
I love Joel's insights and straight-forward information. There is a reason that he is an international star. I am sure he never expected that when he decided to grown food.
I recall when you all came here to Ohio and you all are very knowledgeable on so much. The way you were like on you tube as you are in person. Very good time and i whish Doug and Stacy come to Ohio again.
I love Joel Salatin, I have many of his books, and I used his example to raise chickens in the city, Buff Orpingtons, and it was amazing! We built a small coop and it had handles on it, and we moved it around the yard, with a run that attached to the coop. The grass did not get destroyed, the chickens were super healthy, it was an amazing experience thanks to Joel's example. And now I am going to do the impossible thanks to both of you folks!
I've admired Joel Salatin for years. He came to Pittsboro, NC years ago to give a talk and I was floored at what a great speaker he was, the knowledge he had, and just the feeling that he was so trustworthy. Attended a couple Mother Earth News Fairs later that he spoke at (PA and NC). Enjoyed the interview!
Thank you. I have watched yours and Joel's videos and continue to learn more every time. I hope to be doing homesteading soon but until then I will learn :)
Thanks for interviewing Joel. I just love his ideas and experiences. The first book I picked up to read for which he authored was Folks, this ain't normal: A Farmer's Advice for Happier Hens, Healthier People, and a Better World. I can't wait to read more! Joel definitely is a gifted writer , and in fact, I use portions of his writing in my high school English classes.
Joel and you two are all spreading what you've learned and know to thousands of us! It's far more than teaching the kids, but teaching on a much larger scale that will benefit us as individuals, families and as caretakers of our world. Thank you!!!
Love it.. no excuses..no obstacles..and you and your beloved appear to be a perfect couple. .. You saved for what you both wanted and money seems to burn through people's pockets anymore and they look to their credit score and improving it instead of being frugal and saving..imagine that. I would have loved a teacher like you in school .would have been such an asset.
Fantastic sit down with Joel. I recall watching one of his many videos and then one day, Doug and Stacy had a video right next to his. Keep up the great work. I loved it!
So true about what people tell him about his books. I have read a few and it is always more like he is sitting there telling you about the events rather than you just sitting there reading to yourself.
We can, we can pray for them, their loved ones, and neighbors. Their P.O. Box is listed so we can write them, and support them financially if we see fit, or can.

WooHoo! Three of my favorite people in the whole world!
Joel Salatin was the first and single-most influential person that inspired and motivated me to self sufficiency ( behind Laura Ingalls Wilder...lol). I always knew that i wanted a garden and chickens and a milk cow, but i had no real plan for how i would accomplish that or what i needed to know. A year or so ago, I just happened upon a video of an interview of Mr Salatin at his Polyface farm and BINGO! I knew exactly how and what i wanted to ( and COULD) do!!
