Great, fun interview! Several years ago I ran across Joel Salatin over the internet and he so inspired me that I went out and bought 4 pullets at the feed store the very next day along with organic feed. I had not been able to eat store bought eggs for years because they "disagreed" with me. I was so excited when my first hen laid an egg and couldn't believe how good it tasted! No more problems eating eggs! That's for all you do to inspire us Doug, Stacy and Joel! 💕 ☺

So encouraging : ) Have watched his videos, his tour with Justin Rhodes, Great America Farm Tour...Red Tool House recently featured a company that rents out the whole set up for the day of butchering. it looked very doable, for a beginning farm, maybe not able to afford all the equipment. Thank you for featuring Mr, Salatin : )

Thanks for this interview Doug and Stacy. Joel is always a delight to listen to and I often find myself 100% agreeing with his messages which are so inspiring, yet so simple. Great as the barrier Reef may be, I was impressed that he attracted the attention and an invitation to Prince Charles' place in Scotland! YES!! A few years back I discovered what a man of the earth PC was and had his picture circulating and links of his accomplishments in the sustainable and organic realm, people I knew thought I was bonkers! lol Our own Prince of the Field (JS) caught his attention, YES!! And Most watched chicken coop for OGW D&S 4,000,000+!! YES!!

LOVE this one! I am blessed to live very close to Polyface, and As much as Joel may be traveling internationally now, he and his family do immeasurable good for the local area as well. I JUST finished his book, "Folks, This Ain't Normal!" and was further inspired. I think everyone who eats food should eat it so they realize just what our food system is made of.

Creating Essence what part of Virginia is Polyface farms located in? I live about an hour south of Danville in North Carolina and would live to take a trip up there this summer and was Curious how far it would be since it’s so hard to get a full day away from the farm and all the work around here.
Ever since I read one of his books I’ve been wanting to go see his farm and I’m really glad to see that he does good for the local communities even tho he has attained stardom.
      Take care everyone

I love Joel Salatin, I have many of his books, and I used his example to raise chickens in the city, Buff Orpingtons, and it was amazing! We built a small coop and it had handles on it, and we moved it around the yard, with a run that attached to the coop. The grass did not get destroyed, the chickens were super healthy, it was an amazing experience thanks to Joel's example. And now I am going to do the impossible thanks to both of you folks!

Joel Salatin was the first and single-most influential person that inspired and motivated me to self sufficiency ( behind Laura Ingalls Wilder...lol). I always knew that i wanted a garden and chickens and a milk cow, but i had no real plan for how i would accomplish that or what i needed to know. A year or so ago, I just happened upon a video of an interview of Mr Salatin at his Polyface farm and BINGO! I knew exactly how and what i wanted to ( and COULD) do!! I have since found many other vlogging channels just this year, so i am continuing to learn practical and organizational skills to be more efficient.. i will never reach the scale that Mr. Salatin has, but i now have a clear idea of how i'm going to manage my meat birds, my layers, my cows, my goats, and maybe a few pigs... from studying other permaculture sources, i've pretty well got my gardens and orchards/berries planned out too... All i need now is a PLACE... lol
