Impressive mate. I been watching these, and trying for years. Didn't even know it was still a thing. What is different is how you a) respond to comments in your run omg! and b) then overlay educational explanations and what you are doing and why, and why other suggestions may be slower. Awesome man, praise the sun
"But throughout the entire run, it ends up saving about two or three seconds." The lengths people go for speedruns amazes me. The sheer amount of optimization is crazy.
Now figure you get the WR wit an amazing run and 1 hour later someone beats you by just 1 second because they did that trick. It would be absolutely devastating for you to loose your hard earned WR just because you were too lazy to do the trick.
I guess there isnt a loading screen (either due to a warp or a bon-out or a death) after him, so it would introduce unnecessary manual error if there is a split for him. In most other places since the timer pauses, the split points are consistent and have 0 human error.

Thank you so much for this. This should be considered the golden standard for speedrun videos. As someone who last kept up with Dark Souls All Bosses when it was around 1:40 there is a lot going on here that I am not completely familiar with. The explanation at key points of the speedrun massively aided understanding, enjoyment, and how insanely impressed I am right now. Phenomenal speedrun video. Whatever about the run itself, it's easily the best presentation I've ever seen for any speedrun video.

"You need to have some sense of progression otherwise what is the point of leveling your character in the first place" Sadly, that sums up my thoughts on Nioh exactly. Sure, you can level up your stats and get new gear, but when every new challenge is still balanced towards your new level and gear values, nothing really has any meaning anymore. Get 2 shot at the beginning of the game, get 2 shot at the end of the game. Gear is meaningless, stats are meaningless.
Facts. Enjoyed both Niohs to a degree (finished them both to the end) but can't stomach a replay, the progression is horrible and damage is insanely unfair. What's the point of even having a healthbar if you just get wiped out in a second by every single enemy, big and small? Meanwhile enemies take 800 slices to kill individually.
I love that you’ve been putting regular content out. Even on the short videos, it’s all interesting and engaging to watch. Thanks for also caring about/supporting the community!! Really cool to hear all the details as you did them. Good work.

I'm not familiar to DS1 speedruns at all, but god damn that Bed of Chaos kill in merely a couple of seconds and 2 firebombs made me feel avenged for all the time I spent running back to that boss after some BS knocked me out of the map, or the floor colapsed exactly under where I was running in the arena. It was incredible to watch, almost surrealistic, as was the rest of the run. All the respect to you sir, a true master of your craft.
What a fantastic run to watch! It goes to show how determined you are as a speedrunner and I respect that. I remember the first time I saw you speedrunning this game at a gdq event and how you mentioned something about the lava hurting your eyes, so you wore a different type of glasses (which was a cool moment). It's fun to watch you play or just talk about stuff from other games, you are a chill dude Catalystz.
Lol "Ahh, this lava hurts my eyes. Let me switch glasses really quick." "SO COOL". Sorry, this isnt meant as an insult or anything, I just thought it was funny lol.
You're wrong about the Switch though; it's not about kids or parents, it's about portability. Most of us have normal jobs, with long commutes on public transportation. Being able to play proper indie games on the subway, with a controller? Life changer dude. Same reason I pre ordered a Steam Deck. Not all of us can be so lucky to have a job sitting at their gaming PC playing games all day 🙄. And Steam Deck can't flop; it already got crazy preorders, even when it was limited to one-per-account and $5 down.
Even though I’m a big of humility, you should be proud of the world records you set. Like you said, “speed runners generally don’t have that.” Be humble, but also be proud of the effort and dedication you put into your record. 33:17
Amazing work! I also appreciate the commentary, despite having watched a bunch of DS speedruns and whatnot because I have a swiss cheese brain and forget things easily.

I have definitely thought about covering the other games from the series as well. I need to make sure I conduct more research before it first, however. Also I do not have as many tools available for video creation with the other games, but I'll try to make my way around that. Thanks for the kind feedback!
Ds2 does have a pretty strong following. The criticism of the game kinda creates a misleading expectation that the game isn't well followed. But there will be people to watch it- a smaller crowd, for sure, but a ravenous crowd, definitely.
@@TheJanitorIsIn You're right about that. I actually know more people that say it's their favorite over DS1 & DS3. No joke.
