Your efficiency is epic!! Man I love to watch you spin! I’m getting to be about half your speed now and looking to keep improving but you and Richard are my standards by which I judge myself. I always forget just how humble and beautiful beeswax by itself is! I have some blanks of oak stair tread about 1”, 25 mm thick right now and I’m going to duplicate this process as exactly as I can step by step and see if I can reproduce your results! Thanks for inspiring me yet again! Thank the lord I am retired and can do this when I feel good enough. Had major gut surgery and have reasonably severe back issues to deal with but what can you do? At least I feel I accomplish something when I go spinning! God bless you sir! Take care! Scott
Hi Scott, really sorry to hear about surgery, hopefully you are ok now, just take your time on the lathe, don't need to rush it and enjoy shavings ☺️ Thank you very much for kind words and support
I love the simplicity of this design. I have a big box of cutoffs that I now know what to use them for. That will be much better than using them to heat my shop!
Another one to add to my try and do list. I do have some recently picked up small oak logs to try this project out with. It will take me a lot lot longer to do but I will follow your video directions closely. Your videos really do help me to be more confident with my techniques. Happy turning.
Very nice bowl, simple design that is quite elegant. The design with the lid taller than the box turned out well. What a great way to use cut-offs; that's the cool thing about both wood turning and resin casting, it's really hard to find material that one can call "scrap" anymore. Once again, just watching you turn provides great instruction in tool techniques.
Thank you, try it, it really isn't that bad to make and its really fun 😉 haven't forgot about the order, just have to deal with all other stuff as well, so it might take a while, hopefully its ok? Thanks for watching 🤗
Great project Tomislav, so simple yet nice. This gives me an idea as to what I should make with the many offcuts of oak skirting I have left over. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent use of scrap wood. I really love the simple elegant design. Would you have any issues with me copying your design for use in my own video? I would give you full credit in the description. Thank you for all your excellent instructional videos. I feel I have learned a great deal from them. I have a long way to go but I’m starting to get the hang of it. Thanks again for everything. Scott.
I personally love oak, it's grain, color, hardness, the smell when you work it. I still think Oak has a reputation as being somehow "common" when it's quite uncommon. People always seem to covet what they don't have readily at their disposal and overlook the wonderful things they do.
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning I know... I'm one of those not comfortable with jam chucks. I've been turning since 7th grade 45 years ago, and that experience trying to use jam chucks left me with a little PTSD.
Question Below, but first thanks for the turning video of this beautiful but simple small box. I also liked your comment about colorful socks -lol. Question, when melting/spreading out the beeswax do you use something like Boiled Linseed Oil on the rag to help spread and smooth the final finish?
Thank you sir 😀 Usually I do add oil but you can work beeswax around turning without.... Oil will help with spreding but also with hard to reach details
Really nice box. I was actually planning to make something similar for a long time already. The inspiration for it came from Mike Peace's "Clamshell Box". I even have the blank ready & waiting for it. I wouldn't call it quick & easy though! 😎
Thank you for sharing another nice little project! Great way to use cut offs from another project. I’m fairly new to turning so this may be a silly question ….. I noticed you have a collar on your tool rest shaft. Is this set so you can easily drop the rest to where your chisel hits the wood at the center? Thank you again for your videos 🤠🇨🇱
Thank you Randy very much, you are correct. This banjo has a sort of big travel so I reduce that height a bit so Its much faster to get to close enough height. Its accually a bit lower but I did get this to be a temporary solution until little muscle memorie kicks in but started to like it so I'll probably make one for the video as well😉
Здравствуйте. Замечательная работа. Скажите, пожалуйста, как ведёт себя отделка воском, если на нее попадают капли воды? Как боретесь с пятнами от капель? Или нужно каждый раз полировать заново?
Thank you, beeswax is not durable finish and it doesn't have to be.... For stuff like this boxes is perfectly fine and for utilitarian stuff its gonna be washed anyway , so no finish is also great
Hi Tomislav, Thanks for your thoughtful instruction. Is the oil you use with the wax plain mineral oil or BLO or? I have Live Oak in my area and I love the swirling grain. My challenge is to keep it from cracking.
On this one is some woodturners oil, I haven't read content but I think its BLO but without metal dryers You can use what ever you have on hand, mineral oil or any other oil
I've noticed you switch between scraper & gouge without any adjustment in height of tool rest. The camera angle, I can't tell what your height is? Are using the scraper below center or are you using the gouge above, or both? I learn so much from you - interested in more. Thanks
Thank you sir 🤗 For gouges I don't bother that it has to be in milimetar precise height, so for me it works on Center or above... For scrapers again I don't watch the tool rest, instead I focus on the angle between top of the scraper and portion of the wood scraped, that angle needs to be less then 90 Hope it makes sense 😅
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning that explains it. 1. More question please. When doing a shear scrap, with the blade tilted, does the angle still have to be less than 90 degrees or could it be 90 or slightly more? Does the tilt of the blade & the direct with the wood turning change the rule? Thanks a million

And another project added to my list. Thanks again for all you show us.
I love the simplicity of this design. I have a big box of cutoffs that I now know what to use them for. That will be much better than using them to heat my shop!
Indeed Richard, Although warmth is more important 😅 thank you very much for watching
lovely little box Tomi, I love the way you guide us through the process.
Thank you for that😉
love your work. as always nice looking.
It can be a very nice wedding ring box, maybe with a piece of silk as a “bed” for the rings.
Indeed,great idea👍
Looks like that spindle gouge will soon make it to the Tomislav Turning Wall of Fame! Thanks for another fine video!
Thank you, I love that gouge but probably it will be reused as something else☺️
Tomislav, It's amazing how a piece of scrap can turn into something simple yet elegant at the same time, well done Sir! Take care, Wayne
Thank you Wayne, Appriciate that ☺️
Lovely little box. Boxes are one of my favourite pieces to turn. You've certainly made a gorgeous one here.
Thank you ☺️ I like turning boxes as well
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice, Another great video. Thanks for the great information.
Thank you very much
A lovely little box indeed. I wouldn't dare try it myself, but always pleased to see your mastery of the craft.
Thank you, try it, it really isn't that bad to make and its really fun 😉 haven't forgot about the order, just have to deal with all other stuff as well, so it might take a while, hopefully its ok?

Awsome, glad to hear that and thank you soo much for watching and comment 🤗
Lovely little box. I can see this being used for many purposes. Great project.
Thank you, ohhh there are number of different uses, that is why I like this kind of shape 🤗 Thank you for watching

Nice little box Tomislav and no waste timber
Beautiful as always. Fun that it was made from scraps.

Beautiful lidded bowl Tomislav.
Thank you
Beautiful clam shell box.
Thank you 🤗
🕶very nice Tomislav. Thanks
Really lovely work and great result
Thank you sir 😀
Good job! In order for me to do things like this, I really need to buy a few more sizes/styles of jaws for my chuck.
Thank you for watching, in terms of chucks, accually a lot things could be done on this project using jam chuck.
@@tomislavtomasicwoodturning I know... I'm one of those not comfortable with jam chucks. I've been turning since 7th grade 45 years ago, and that experience trying to use jam chucks left me with a little PTSD.

"nice, simple box.." Simplicity isn't that easy!
Kind of disappointed about the socks admission 😂
😂 Its a joke😀 soon I'll use colorfull stuff from my todler, with little animals😅 that colorfull socks are sort of an icon now.
I've been waiting for a comment about socks.
Those socks should be in woodturning hall of fame.... Everyone knows about them☺️
